    Been there ,What you need is one of those paper thin 15mm wrenches. Allows you to adjust the Hub tension easily when it's on the bike. The problem i run into is i get it perfect the way I want it, then once I wrestle with it to get it on the bicycle, it's already out of whack again. So you just go in with the paper thin wrench after-the-fact and adjust it.

    Finally somebody has taken the time to explain it properly! I built my bike in 2009! And have more than 10000 miles on it, I didn’t rebuild the engine until it had 9000 miles on it! Regular lube jobs on the rear hub are the key! Great video👍

    This just happened to me today. I bought my first motor kit, took off the break arm, installed the sprocket and then realized the wheel wouldn't spin freely. Thankfully I noticed before putting the wheel back on and moving forward. But it took me forever to figure it out. And now I'm done for the night after I got it and now finally found this video

    it took me a while to get it adjusted right, I'm using a nel lusso as my first build, also went as far as removing the coaster brake pads inside the hub and repacked with grease while i had it apart, installed front and rear brakes on a dbl pull handle with kill switch with the stock throttle handle. used a cnc hub adapter for a 1.5in. hub. the build was fun, cant wait for the break in,, Love your content, VA laws here make it difficult for them on the paved roads, have to see DMV to see if i need to tag it, 50cc or less is considered moped but what i understand still needs a tag, 50cc or higher is a motorcycle needs tag title and insurance, so its a 48cc lol

    It's best to disassemble the rear hub coaster brake assembly and thoroughly clean, inspect, and relube it prior to adjustment. PS: If the bike's not going to be exposed to the kind of off road use that your bikes are, you can simply grind down the dust cover rather than hog out the rear sprocket, a vernier caliper makes it easy to get a perfect fit.

    • @seansnyder2855

      Probably thumbed down because he didn't actually put a sprocket on the wheel. I have no idea how you're supposed to do this without the sprocket rubbing on the brake arm. You have two pieces that need to move freely that are literally tightened down onto each other.

    Just a tip, if you use a digital torque wrench you can see the EXACT inch or foot pounds the nut loosens at so you know what to tighten it to.

    I found an easier way to do this. Instead of using your legs, use the corner of a wall to jam the coaster arm to stay in place (the wheel will be upright). I found that I was able to have more control and was able to adjust the tightness of the wheel bearings gradually.

    Dang man so last night I installed the rear sprocket that came with the kit and noticed it became loose after I removed the coaster brake I thought I tightened everything back up and everything seemed fine when I was done and put the tire back on. Anyway today I rode it to my job to pick up my check and I noticed something was all of a sudden wrong when I was riding back and the wheel was super loose and making noise. I realize now that what I did was over tightened everything and the axle wasn't back together properly now I'm about to take it off and see the damage and hope it's not too bad because it was a brand new beach cruiser I bought to install the motor on. 😬

    Yeah…I just rebuilt a rim, and the coaster lever is chewed up bad! If you’re planing on traveling far….get a phat motto back rim’ you will see them on Four stroke motto bikes’ you screw the sprocket to the hub, and you can convert to disk brakes….but you will need to weld a thick bracket to the frame….to hold the caliper.
    Or you can put the old clamp brakes on it….WARNING! You’re gonna need to sand the paint off the sides…or you’re brakes will Perform terribly…..the coaster brake will fail eventually’ because the inners aren’t made for high speed stopping….this depends on a persons weight’ if you’re over 200 pounds’ they will wear down quicker….if You’re always flogging the hell out it, and make high speed stops’ they will fail’ a gas cruiser is made for cruising at 25-35mph….they last a lot longer.

  • @spryh6742
    @spryh6742 3 роки тому

    What's the harm if you leave the dust cover on and skip the dremeling...Does it encourage the sprocket to slip off center?
    A bit more space between sprocket and bearings doesn't sound bad, as long as it remains seated. The load is on the spokes, not the axle.

    I got my wheel in a good place I think. Except the axle has more threads showing on the bicycle sprocket side. I'm not sure if it was the same when I took the wheels off of the bike I. Bought them from a huffy cruiser at a scrap yard it was the black girls bike with welded rack on the back. Anyhow. My question is this, if I loosen both sides shouldn't I be able to re center the axle to the hub . Also is it vital to the way the parts function that the axle be centered in the hub?
