I'm one of the principal Devs on this project and appreciate very much your taking a serious look at it. I would like to stress that it is currently an alpha2, and continues under heavy testing.
Would love to see a far lighter MX option released. I like antiX base version a lot and can add most (not all) of what I want to it. It is easier to add programs on MX, though - that whole repository thing is a head ache on antiX. Wish I could use something like MX-Fluxbox but without all of the bloatware. AntiX can run fine on an old $5 2.0 flash drive, so I'd've thought it would've been a good selection for a Pi. I tested dietpi OS today in a VM and loved the bare-bones of it and the ease of installing a desktop (XFCE), but the audio doesn't work, the one AppImage I tried only partially works, it would only allow me to select a GB keyboard not the US one I need... It isn't ready for prime-time yet.
I have been using MX on my laptop and desktop because it is a great distro. It is actually brilliant to have this available for my Pi 5. I am using Firefox to watch this video and it seems to work flawlessly. So far, it is my favourite distro next to PiOS with KDE desktop. Thanks!
Nice, XFCE is my favourite linux desktop environment. Thanks for your KDE image btw, I installed it on my pi 5 and it was good although the KDE task bar was oddly squished - it didn't like my 3440px wide monitor. I've also tried Ubuntu which was decent although it ran the active cooler at 100% unless manually controlled. I will try this MX linux next.
Hopefully the most recent release includes Piperwire to solve all the Puke audio problems so many people used to have on the Pi 4, which I might need to in mothball to test this on.
Quick question, whats the screen resolution and Monitor spec used for testing, My rpi5 struggles to push 4k just for normal things forget browser [on a 3rd party charger]
4K is a complete gimmick unless you are projecting an image onto the side of a building or onto the underside of a dome over your head. The same people obsessed about 4K screens today are the same people who were obsessed about 3DTV a few years ago, and we all know what happened to that. If you need to make your workstation look like the flight deck of a Boeing 747 just to put photos of it on social media to impress your friends or family then go right ahead - but there are better things to spend your money on, and my own eyes keep telling me that there are enough pixels on a 1920x1080 screen.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 I disagree, a 32" 4K monitor and 32" Full HD shows real difference, Pi may not be a candidate for it now, but I feel distance matter too, up close I am happy with 4K and my eyes tell me there is a difference.
@@MohanNatrajPalanivel My eyes have never said to me "There aren't enough pixels". I think too many people out there are looking for other excuses for their own concentration and attention span problems. 4K is a gimmick.
As to the reference about microSD card deployment and SSD deployment of KDE and other Pi-OS’s there is an issue with boot ability which seems to come down to the Pi boot rom facility. Could be there’s a new one in the works but haven’t seen it as yet via the Pi Imager.
Thanks for the tip about llvmpipe. I was wondering why Vulkan was so slow in Dolphin. I'll have to try to get the other Vulkan setting working. I compiled the latest Dolphin for Raspberry Pi 5, and it's really good. Every game I've tried is full speed, even SSX3 which is one of the most demanding IME.
Linux Mint with Cinnamon desktop in the future ? For me it's the best desktop for average user Linux, specially if you come from Windows. Otherwise good vidéo with a lot of conky options.
Should be the same as this as most Linux operating systems are installed the same NEW Orange Pi 5B. Installing Custom Ubuntu to eMMC drive. ua-cam.com/video/5q_tytwmseg/v-deo.html
There's a channel called "Nico D's SBCs" that has a tutorial for Armbian on RK3588. He's very looped in with the Armbian team as well. He's got some interviews with the developers on his channel.
Did you see this If you are having a Orange Pi 5B variant, replace fdtfile=rockchip/rk3588s-orangepi-5.dtb in /boot/armbianEnv.txt with fdtfile=rockchip/rk3588s-orangepi-5b.dtb From www.armbian.com/orangepi-5/
Am i the only one who thinks raspberry pi os is trash? Looks like a computer from the 90s and has no options at all. Compared to Ubuntu it's just not even close. Maybe im missing something. Maybe for a pi3 you'd want it stripped down to the bare minimum. But the 5 is more than fast enough for Ubuntu.
I use KDE Plasma but it’s based on Raspberry PiOS so most things are more compatible My Linux setup Raspberry Pi 5 Part 2. KDE Plasma ua-cam.com/video/ODNF-J_CSp4/v-deo.html
I still use Twister OS on my Pi4s. It just does everything easy has Retropie on the desk already. First thing I'm going to do with a Pi5 is see if that works.
Yes it is a computer from the 90s and for the younger generation starting out and for makers as the Foundation has excellent documentation, I don't think PI is for you, get yourself a SBC and another Linux Distro

The MX utils are amazing
Conky looks like fun, will be installing with that on my Pi5 when one arrives. Will play with it on this Pi400 now.
This has now come out of testing and is a full release.

Ubuntu and MX are bloated, but the latter far less so.
An analog watch looks beautiful, keep it.

Would you be willing to share how you did that? We have not yet figured it out and failure is reported on the RPi Forum. Thanks.

Very east do, so many tutorials on UA-cam just follow one of them and you should be good, hae you already bought an Orange Pi 5, how much ?
Never ever ever use the Windows key, use the Superkey instead 😂
you wasted too much time on conky and MX wastes too much effort on it, too. Let us download the ones we want - such as the config files for it.
Ok. I like it being included and customisable via the menu
