    Minor thing but it is so sweet that Frank probably made his granddaughter's day by being the first one who wanted her pancakes. Ally is both his first grandchild and only granddaughter so he have always had a extra soft spot for her that he doesn't normally shows for the rest of the family.

      Ray and Debra are horrible people towards one another. As parents, Deb is a good mom, Ray is a lazy father.

    • @jfk-t9o
      @jfk-t9o 4 місяці тому +1

      @@Surfer041 It is true that Ray and Debra both had their struggles in the marriage which doesn't help with Ray's parents living so close by and always coming over. However one also have to remember that they also had their sweet moments. Their relationship isn't as bad as some people makes it sound as.
      Ray have shown several times throughout the show to be comfortable in showing deep emotions or telling his wife some personal childhood stories that he doesn't usually do with others. He also got rid of his old childhood car just because it made Debra uncomfortable, reassures her that the babysitter wouldn't replaced the kids' love for her, got her job back after she got fired on her first day after initially being unsupported (which even Debra herself admits was very sweet even if she didn't takes the job back out of ashamed), set up an vow renewal on his own to makes up for taping over the wedding video, have shown times to care what Debra think of him, fought Frank to have Debra's initial house color for her, admits in front of all Robert's wedding guests that he still considers his wife to be the most beautiful girl in the world and wrote a touching letter in his newspaper column to makes up for forgetting to thanks Debra in his speech. Throughout the series Ray often takes the time to comes up with ton of creative or unusual nicknames for Debra. The fact that she barely bats her eyes over this show that she is used to this. He also is shown to occasionally still capable of making her laugh.
      Meanwhile throughout the entire series Debra puts up with her in laws' antics for the sake of her love for her husband. She also often serves as her husband's confidant, is supportive of Ray's job even if he have to travel often, worries if their marriage is strong enough after her parents divorces each other and have times tries to convinces Ray to not let his parents get under his skin. She is a good wife. It is also shown that both are boring people who are all right with simply watching tv or going to the occasional movies or dinner together. The series finale especially show that Debra would in fact be an complete wreck without Ray being with her and no doubt he would be the same with her.
      An minor sweet thing but while Ray and Debra may bickers often the one thing that they have always been in total agreement is that they are very careful in making sure that their kids don't get involves in the family arguments. It can be implies that on some level Ray is mindful enough to not want his kids to experiences the same thing he and Robert went through during their childhood. Also, we do need to remember that the show is showing their worst days because that what makes it interesting and funny. They had to have ton of good times together if the long-lived marriage is still going on strong underneath all the bickering. Ray do a good job in providing for his family and he is more involves with the kids than what is shown. Debra have made comments few times that she does in fact consider Ray to be a good husband and her biggest fear is losing him. He always comes home to her even if things are crazy around the house with the family. Lot of the times the fights are due to stress, annoyance or the heat of the moment. Their actual everyday relationship is probably more tame than what is shown. They get on each other nerves but there also nobody else than they rather be with. They're comfortable with each other and are able to get by the trials in the marriage. Isn't that what makes a marriage successful at the end of the day?
      I think it is worth mentioning that as much as Ray can be frustrating at times or lazy about household chores, he is no idiot. He know what is going on with the family situation and is kinda in a hard place. He knows that his parents are nuts and difficult people and he know that mom isn't doing much favors for his wife. That is the love of his life and the mother of their children. Yet at the same time he still cares for his parents deep down meaning banning them permanently is out of the question. The thing is Frank and Marie are going to do what they want to do and Ray can't do much about their behavior. He and Debra just have to deal with it for the better or the worse. What he does do is show Debra that he loves her in other ways that may be small but probably actually means lot to her. Debra do recognizes this which is why she never left. She knows she got a good if bit imperfect husband who she loves dearly. She is truly Ray's light in this crazy family because she stuck around.
      I also just realized that Ray himself actually was nowhere near as critical about Debra's job as a housewife as Marie was. Sure he may makes few jabs once in a while about her cooking (due to being spoiled rotted with perfection food while growing up) but outside of that he didn't seem to think she was even doing a bad job. He couldn't cares less if the house was a bit messy (which is honestly expected considering that they had three young kids running around the house. Especially in the early seasons) instead of spotless. Also, outside of questioning few choices or opinions, he also seem normally confident that Debra is a good mother. He knows that she got her hands full with the kids and his parents while he is at work. He doesn't really expects her to be exactly like Marie in the role. He even tried to tell Marie that the family was doing fine when she made it sounds like they were living in such a horrible way in "Win Lose or Draw" which she did not listen. He flat out said in "Wallpapers" that he doesn't feels that Marie will listen to him which is the actual main reason why he doesn't wastes his breath with her. Sure, he may enjoys the attention and coddling on some level but he does know how she is. Selective obliviousness. Marie sees what she want to see which what makes it so frustrating to the rest of the family. She is so wrapped up in the image of Ray always needing her and that she is the only one who capable of taking care of him that the very idea that Ray himself may not want her over all of the time is practically foreign to her.

      @@jfk-t9ohonestly don’t completely agree. Ray is great apologizing after a long time because he typically does inconsiderate things to Debra consistently so he always have to apologize. He can love his parents but he is still allowing them to treat his wife horribly. He doesn’t set any real boundaries with them. If your behavior is to insult and disrespect people then that means you shouldn’t be permitted to do it again. At the very least they should’ve moved to be further than them. Marie and Frank both needed to understand if you treat people badly then you simply shouldn’t be allowed to talk to them unless you change. I can’t imagine someone being the love of my life and being okay with them being insulted daily.

    • @jfk-t9o
      @jfk-t9o 3 місяці тому

      @@kalebr560 Ray have tried. His parents don't listen and have shown that they aren't going to change. Sometimes you just have to just accept people who they are simply because they are family or tolerates them for the person who you loves which is real for many couples in real life. That is where Ray and Debra are. Not the easiest route but they are at least dealing with the situation together for the better or the worse. The fact is they do lives by them and they don't have enough money for a new house. Even if they did get a new house and moves then it misses the whole comedy of the show which is the parents driving them both nuts.
      As for Ray and Debra you acts like they never had any good or sweet moments together which is untrue. They aren't perfect or doing huge things for each other but you can still tell that they loves each other through little things. They takes the bad along with the good with each other. For Ray, could he stands his ground more and pick up more of a fight with his parents? Yeah. But if this been going on for years with little results then you do need to choose your battles. Could he tries to set up some kind of boundaries with his parents? Sure but who knows if they'll listen or actually follows through it. Could he tries to lighten Debra's load and stand up for her more? Yeah but honestly he can't do much about at least the parents' situation since they are going to do what they want to do. They just have to deal with the situation. As for Debra, could she be more understanding that Ray is in a hard place with his parents? Of course. Could she not focus on the little mistakes that he makes as much? Of course. Could she handles her emotions better? Of course.
      That is the point. They are real humans with flaws. They don't makes all of the right choices. They don't always appreciates the little things in life. They don't always say the right things. They can get bit nuts about few petty things. Outside of few fights that got out of hands bit these two are actually overall pretty normal. Their main fights are over household chores, in-laws driving you bit crazy, nitpicking of some of your flaws or debating on how to handle your children in a particular situation. The show is a overdramatic about real situations that the writers had with their own families. It doesn't means that they don't loves them. So, it is not unreasonable to think that we're just seeing Ray and Debra at their worst on the bad days. The show would be pretty boring if they are always so loving and understanding with one another. Instead of focusing on the negatives why don't you look at this as inspiring and positive? Why not say wow, these two went through lot yet are still happily married at the end of the day?

      @@jfk-t9o if a person is harmful to me even if family I don’t believe that makes a difference. Being family doesn’t give you a right to mistreat everyone in your family.
      Ray and Debra had good moments but also had really bad moments. You shouldn’t cling to the good and ignore everything else. We can only go off what we see. Based on the pattern of behavior and what they all say it’s clear Ray rarely makes an effort around the house or with his own children.

The only real thing is that Frank and Marie have no problem in being completely honest with each other but they treats their fights more as some fun game that they enjoys instead of actually trying to improves themselves and their relationship. Ray and Debra aren't as prideful. While they don't like to acknowledges their own flaws or issues, when the problems do comes out, they are usually pretty good at talking things out and trying to understand the other view even if it leads to mixed results at times. They also both have shown to makes some kind of sacrifices for each other when push comes to shove.

    How old is Ally here? I used to babysit the little girl-a toddler!- across the street for a few hours at a time when I was ten.

    Born & brought up in a country like INDIA 🇮🇳; I learnt to live-survive in my (busy) parents' absence @ age 7+ onwards.
    Once I missed my After; school bus . So I walked 🚶‍♂️alone 7kms to return home.
    No Alarm, no harm done.
