Surely, with the glowplugs light going off that's the end of the warming process so as soon as the ignition keystart will turn the engine, do it. Small engine or not it's a hunk of metal that soaks the heat away from the cylinders so the earlier you can attempt a start the better. You heard at each failed start it begins to fire then gives up as there was heat to aid combustion. I had an 06 one of these (with van back and roller shutters on the rear and side) and it was good fun but LOUD. An earlier flat-front model..door security was non-existent - the lock just slowed down pulling the handle to get in - completely useless. I added soundproofing on the rear of the cab (carpet underlay, same blue as your seat covers) which helped but the engine is next to you so soundproofing the cab seat and floor area is also vital. A friend of mine who owned one in suburbia, had a note left on his windscreen saying 'Do not start this before 9 in the morning!'
I drove mine home to Sheffield from Exeter - can you imagine that? 8 hours and several times I had my own personal queue.. Bonne Chance!

Have since found my battery is a bit weak. So after a long charge the start up is better, but at some point I'll probably replace it. In these times of lockdown I have to watch the pennies.
I nearly bought a "phase 1" (flat fronted), which was in Rouen, but a long way from here. I had basically set myself a budget based on seeing average looking ones in the classifieds. Put up a wanted advert and had a dealer in my region contact me, willing to sell me a phase 2 for the price I was offering, so I bought mine from him. You had prices from 5,000-8,000€ - for second hand examples. Bascially over-priced, as they are in demand here from trades people who have lost their licence. In France you don't need a drivers licence, just insurance, to drive one.
So mine is a but rough around the edges, but OK. I need to basically tidy it up. Thanks for the tips about soundproofing. I had seen on a VSP parts site, that they were selling sound proofing carpets for under the seats on a phase 1... I would imagine the seating isn't a lot different to a phase 2. Not sure about the floor area, as it can get very dirty out here in the sticks. Bits of tree from our garden and mud in the Autumn/Winter/Spring. But I need to do something about it, so under the seats and the rear of the cab sounds like a good start. The roof could do with somesort of insulation. Last Summer temps were around the 35°C mark, so it was unbearable.
Can't imagine driving a Multitruck in the UK, unless you were in a remote area. I'm near Paris, but the "country lanes" are quite busy with a speed limit of 80km/h. Although drivers are used to slow moving traffic from "sans permis" vehicles and 50cc scooters, they generally hate them. The French have always seen vsp's as being "des voitures de papy" - but that has recently changed with the more recent models appealing to teenagers (you can be as young as 14 to drive a vsp, with just a 7 hour driving awareness course). Parents prefer to have their kids drive a vsp rather than a 50cc scooter. Am not that sure a vsp offers a lot of protection to be honest.
In theory, my son could be driving mine in a years' time. Which is more than a tad weird.
Thanks for the comments. Interesting take.

Battery has been replaced, so slightly better now. Still need to replace those glow plugs though.

Not sure what licence you'd need over there. Over here, if you were born before 1988 you don't need one. Just insurance.
If you were born after, you can drive one as early as 14 years old... but have to take a 7 hour driving/familiarity course.
These "sans permis" vehicles have always been a joke here, but the newer models of car are popular with young teens.

Unfortunately that doesn't work. I still haven't changed the glowplugs, something I need to do, as it seems to get worse. Especially now it is cold and damp outside.
