  • In this video I discuss using a third party gateway with T-Mobile 5G Home Internet. This gateway is the NEXPRO 5G Gateway. The products in this video were provided free of charge by Haven Technologies. However, all of the information in this video is solely my opinion. I was not paid to say anything positive or negative about the units being reviewed.

This may not be guaranteed to work, but it could potentially save you a significant amount of money. If you have a phone line with T-Mobile, you are eligible for an Android Magenta Tablet line for just $20 to $25 per month. This plan offers unlimited 5G internet and is designed for mobility-unlike Home Internet, which may eventually be restricted to specific locations. Normally, the tablet line costs $65 per month, but with a phone line, you receive a $40 discount, and an additional $5 off with autopay, bringing the total to just $20 per month. If this works, it could be a game changer for RV enthusiasts!

Can you explain why you use OpenDNS vs TMobile's DNS?

Well in all honesty I’ve used them forever and I just like it better. Totally personal preference. Way back when at the inception of broadband internet opendns or even using googles dns was just faster than using the dns provided by your ISP. That was my main reason for switching. Fast forward to today the speed thing is probably negligible, but what opendns does do is allow me to filter content on my kids computers and when a page can’t be found instead of redirecting you to a page with ads it just tells you the page can’t be found. In short though your average person is completely fine just using T-Mobile’s DNS.

Do you get better speeds with this gateway than the T-Mobile ones?

The model with the mesh + firmware I do. The WIFIX model firmware I don’t because it’s capped at around 350Mbps and I can get that with my T-Mobile provided gateway. That being said I’m working on a video for the invisagig 5g modem and it is by far the fastest speeds yet.

@@helphq This is interesting. What would cause the speed cap? I'm about to buy this exact unit and I have to make a choice on which firmware I want. Now I'm conflicted. LOL ** Nevermind..I watched the last 2 minutes of the video and now I know the reason ** Thumbs up and thanks for the video. Very helpful.

At the time of making the video this was simply a firmware limitation. Mesh plus was faster but WifiX was more customizable. @wirelesshaven would be able to provide more up to date information on whether or not an update has resolved this.
