- In today's installment i will be briefly showing you how to construct an internal aquarium filter as well as setting up a planted dirted and CO2 powered tank. All DIY of course. This video is inspired by Jason from JDO's Fishtank so a big thanks to him for the idea. If you have any questions let me know in the comments below and be sure to like and subscribe for future videos. Thanks for watching and have a good one!!!
you and jdo fishtanks gave me so many ideas how to do a version of this for myself, i think its a great idea
tea glass heck yeah! Haha build one and make a video! Let's see what you got. I will say it takes some tuning to get right but damn it works once you do. Thanks for watching and commenting.
awesome job! crazy that they started spawning so fast. please keep up the video updates, this aquarium is very nice
Dat Cripldude thank you very much and what's weird is those 2 angels have never spawned before, they were with other mates in the old tank. Who knows haha. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I think I would put the ump higher up that way it pulls that water further up allowing maybe a sport for more filtration. Awesome. I am going to try this!
Wow, thanks for the shout out buddy! You did an awesome job, it looks great and functional. I also like how the sides are diagonal. The only thing I would do is add a lot more media in the first chamber. At least 2"-3" of filter floss and more bio media, you have a lot of room in that first chamber.
JDO Fishtank thanks man I appreciate that and yeah, I need to figure out what I'm going to do with that massive gap in the filter chamber. Maybe add some more floss and a shit load more bio balls. Thanks for watching and for the inspiration, maybe you'll get a few more subs. I'm sort of racing you to 2k lol, unofficially
"Unofficially" lol, that's it, I'm making more videos! lol
JDO Fishtank 😂😂😂 but seriously!!
that turned out REALLY AWESOME I love it I just wish I had a bigger tank to do that with. great job bro
Thank you! I appreciate that. Start saving or find a deal on Craigslist. Bigger is almost always better! Have a nice day
i know it's kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to stream new movies online?
@Fox Chaim Try Flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
@Lucca Aldo definitely, I've been watching on FlixZone for since march myself =)
@Lucca Aldo Thank you, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it !!
Wassup bro, congrats on the truck and this aquarium looks good bro!
Reggie's H&P Cichlids thanks man! I hope all is well with the fam!
Love your videos and completely support the idea of rehoming to change your livestock! Keep up the good work and keep posting videos dammit!
Jornwell haha I have been slacking on the videos and I apologize for that. More to come soon. And yes, rehoming is the best way to change your livestock. Thanks for watching!!!
Great video, would have loved to see more detail about sourcing/ cutting/ siliconing the acrillic in. Any tips or recommendations on how to do that?
What happens if the water goes below the grooves you have cut? Will it mess up the pump? Also what is the size of the tank? Thanks
OMG I love it! I am getting a 54 Gallon corner tank and wanted to do a filter in the very back corner, either like that or just sponge and pump like the Hamburg Mattenfilter. Could I still use other media in with the Hamburg version? Which would take less time to make.
Do you have or remember the dimensions of the side and front piece? 3/16" dremel tool for the skimmer slits, how deep were they down the plexiglass? Great video and a great idea.
CaptainNemo49 ok so I don’t have the exact dimensions for every piece, it was one of things where I made cardboard pieces that seemed like a good size and went with it. It is 3/16” acrylic and for the slits in the weir I used a 7/16” drill bit and then used a diamond crusted tile blade on a table saw to cut them straight up. They were about an inch deep on the finished product. If you have any other questions let me know. I would love to help you build something like this because it worked great. The only thing I would suggest is using acrylic cement to adhere the pieces together rather than silicone because eventually mine broke apart. Thank you for watching and commenting. Have a good night
Nice find for me! New subscriber.
River Life thank you very much I really appreciate that!!! I just saw you on Joel's live stream! Lol anyways have a good one and i will see you around!!!
its going to look great once it fills in.
I hope so man, I'm still trying to dial in the CO2 and the lights but it is working well so far. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Filter looks to be working great man! Cool build. How's it doing 2 weeks later? Have you had an issues with it or is it still all good?
CichlidScape • it's legit I love it. I had to superglue a little piece back on but other than that it's perfect. Thanks for watching and have a good one!
Great video thanks!
chris scott yeah no problem, I’m glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching man.
Is this filter system still running and are you still happy with it? I have a 120g that I am moving my plants and community fish over too and have watched JDOs video prior to finding yours. I'm looking for thoughts after months/years of running.. as this is what I want to use for the new tank
Nice Jason is a cool guy! Thanks for stopping by! Ok so this filter isn’t running anymore because I broke it when I was cleaning it one day. I used aquarium silicone to make the joints and it didn’t adhere to the acrylic like I wanted it to but the filter design worked wonderfully! My advice would be to use acrylic cement to make the joints instead of silicone. It will last forever that way. You will still have to use silicone to adhere it to the glass though. Maybe use a bit of super glue first and then silicone over that. This filter would work great on a 120g tank just make sure the joints are strong before installing it. Also it will probably need some modifications after you install it to get the flow correct. You’ll just have to play with it to see what works. All in all it is a great filter design and it is very compact and hides equipment nicely. Plus it has a ton of room for media and it’s easy to maintain. I hope you decide to go with this “all in one” filter design. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I hope this helps!!!!
@@allaboutdiy1375 I definitely plan on going with a version of this. The tank has a way to go. It was second hand so I'm waiting for some warmer weather to water test it. I have a stand to make and the pump.. I'm sure I will have questions once I get there!
Jaime S awesome! I hope testing goes well! Good luck with it and I will be here if you have any questions. Have a good night 👍
Great video!! What lighting you use?
Grandmaster I'm running a high output dual bulb T5 fixture and also custom 6500k gu10 LED's that are mounted under the cabinet. Thanks for watching!!
Nicely done. I like it alot. Im not usually a fan of internal filters. but this looks awesome.
Ed channel thanks man I feel the same way about them, and this is actually the first one I have built. It's working great so far and I like that it is simple and cheap. Thanks for watching and commenting!
For the Horde ;)
Hey bro taking out the fine floss is gunna be a nightmare floss should be before the media
Duncan Ward thanks for the advice man! I actually put that in there initially to clean the water so I could video it quicker lol. It's setup correctly now. Thanks for watching!
how is this filter holding up?
dethnode haha I broke the crap out of it one day when I was cleaning it so I ripped it all out. So to answer your question, not good. I need to find a better way to glue it to the glass. Thanks for watching
Do you think if you used acrylic cement to put the walls and baffle together, then used silicone for just holding it to the tank, that it would have held up better. What kind o filtration did it provide when it was up and running?
dethnode yeah if I would have used the cement to fuse the whole thing together and then siliconed it to the tank it would be fine I think. When it was running it was awesome. That big pump really moved the water and the water was crystal clear, plus it had a ton of room for biological media.
interesting..
Filtration is good but breeding is impossible
Would have been better to widen the gaps between the teeth for better skimming.
Stuart Brewer it skims just fine the way it is, I tested it in the video, apparently you didn't watch that part, and if the gaps were any wider I would be finding fish in the filter media chamber. If you look an any saltwater weir, the gaps are only about 3/16's of an inch wide and they skim just fine. I played around with it for quite a while and this setup seemed to work best. Thanks for watching.
