    I am so glad we are already using our leaves to mulch, compost, trench, and mold (on one bed we are letting sleep next year).
    This was our firstv year gardening and your video has confirmed we are learning as we follow your methods. Thank you for sharing.

    I love the trench compost idea! I have some leaves as mulch, some thrown into compost, some doing a "leaf mold" and a lot are used for chicken bedding... they shred those leaves for me! Love the channel!

    I just started running out of shredded leaves from last year and on the bottom I found rich black mold! All season I did use them for mulch and in my compost as browns, just like you said! This year I covered 5 beds for the winter. They are resting because I winter gardened and transitioned into spring and summer. I use a lawnmower, a duel leaf blower and mulcher and a leaf shredder machine. My family and friends also contribute their leaves, plus the bagged ones I see on the curb! lol Waist not, want not!

    I had a bunch of mulched/chopped up leaves and put them in my barrels that I plant annuals in each spring/summer. I just dug down and took some of the soil out and put a light layer of the mulched leaves down and then covered them up. Do you think I will need to add additional nutrients before I plant again? thanks!

    We don’t have any trees in our yard that drop leaves so we’re the strange neighbours who go and pick up other peoples bags of leave for our garden! We use a deep mulch system and every year we add at least 12” of mulched leaves to every bed… we also use the mower for mulching them up… through the spring/summer months we add extra mulch of grass clippings with each bed getting 2-3 top dressings of an inch or so with the grass over the season. Seriously don’t overthink it with the compost thing… mulch mulch mulch and that’s all your garden needs. We can’t do compost because animals get into it so we just gave up on that and do the mulching… and it works just as well and you don’t have to think about it

      I may or may not have been seen cleaning leaves out of 3 of my neighbors yard this year too. But we do have a few trees in our yard that help with the supply.

      @@StoneyAcresGardening oh and font Todd those used leaf bags! They are great for starting new beds or putting strips of them between rows of planted seeds… keep that soil covered and you won’t have to water or weed… as the seedlings grow you can mulch right over that heavy paper and it will just break down with the rest of the mulch.

    Can you chop the leaves and immediately mix them with your garden soil ? and let them decompose within the soil ?

    I tried to use leaves as mulch, but I absolutely couldn't collect enough leaves for all our garden beds, especially after turning them into small pieces. The big ones blew over the yard next year and none decomposed because of the cold climate, so my parents got mad.

    I have a question for you. I want to use my leaves to make soil, covered later with mulch but what can I do to keep them in the rock islands? Water or add lime or something else to bond them so they will not blow away - any thoughts ------ I think this is a good way to compost leaves but I need them not to blow into my neighbors yard or to the street - trying to lessen that carbon footprint by using rather than having the city pick up in bins.

    What do I do with fall leaves that are coated in powdery mildew?

    • @UrbanHomesteadMomma
      @UrbanHomesteadMomma 2 роки тому

      Mulch them and add them to the garden… it’s great for your gardens.the powdery mildew has never affected our garden. We chop and drop any leaves with it all the time… I don’t find it affects the garden negatively at all.

      That is the one time I will send them to the dump. I don't use any diseased leaves in my garden.

    Will oak leaves turn your soil acidic?

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  2 роки тому

      Unlikely. It is very hard to change the ph of your soil long term.
