I hate to break it to people but the farm life is now a rich man’s game. Farm properties are so insanely expensive at this point. Most of the trad wives are wealthy AF
My sister is a divorce lawyer who deals with women all day every day left with nothing and no means to take care of themselves after being stay at home moms. 50% of marriages end in divorce-you MUST have your own source of income and ability to provide for yourself. If you are a woman depending on a man in 2024-you are taking such a huge risk. Men cheat or leave, and men die. But they’ll be ok because they had the job-YOU don’t. You have to have a backup plan always.
Agreed 100%. There is nothing wrong with being a stay at home wife and mother, but women need to make sure to protect themselves. And a man who cares about you will be on board with that.
100%, i think no matter how much you trust your partner, having a plan to take care of yourself is important. it's not a sign that you don't love or trust your person, but rather that you love and care for yourself as well! Sadly people and situations change, you never know what could happen. There's a reason relationships can fall apart!
@@KylaJames fortunately for me, my husband has nothing if he leaves. I inherited 100 acres, 3 houses, and 2 businesses, one of which he works in. Everyone gets screwed in a divorce but I would only suffer emotionally. He would have nothing at all. He really needs to start protecting himself right?
I think that first girl confuses "in/dependent" with trust and/or lack of trust. Both partners being able to earn an income if needed isn't because they don't trust their partner not to abandon them but simply to ensure if an emergency or tragedy or just regular ole hard times hit, you can both help each other to stay afloat. What if the income earning partner dies, is injured, loses their job, has to take care of a sick parent, etc? It would be much easier and less stressful if the other partner can also enter the work force and keep them above water until the other partner can return/find more work. If one partner wants to stay at home that's fine, but I think it's pretty responsible and mature for people in long-term relationships, especially those planning to have children together, to have a backup plan if they hit a rough patch and suddenly need two incomes. That sounds like a more trusting and healthy way to function in a relationship - in my opinion - rather than throwing all the financial expectations and responsibilities on one partner with zero options or offers for help if money becomes an issue.
very true! Looking out for yourself and being self sufficient isn't a sign of lack of trust. Things change, life changes, and even if people want to be stay at home wife/mother its important to discuss those possible life changes! If they can't even have those conversations that shows more of a lack of trust imo!
I think part of the "lounging" and/or "not working" tradwife aesthetic is due to it coming from a specific time in the 50s where a lot of new appliances had been invented to help ease workload in the home - dishwashers, vacuums, premade food mixes, etc. Before then, a lot of basic chores really were outright work and could truly take _all day long,_ stuff like churning butter, mending or making clothes, cleaning the whole house with just a bucket and rag. I remember reading an excerpt from a pioneer woman's diary where she describes having to do her regular work around the house _as she was just about to go into labor_ with just one girl they hired to help around the house with her. And plenty of families couldn't even afford help, so the mothers/wives were often all on their own. Plus, while of course women in the past had limits on careers, women were still very much part of the work force throughout the world and human history. Women herded cattle, they farmed crops, they sold merchandise, ran inns and restaurants and shops, a lot of stereotypical hard and heavy labor was shared between men and women a good majority of the time, particularly in the lower classes or more rural areas. All of this to say that this weird "I'm always dressed to the nines and look ready to host a cocktail party" vibe these particular tradwives are promoting doesn't even feel genuinely "traditional" to me, because when I think of past traditional women I'm thinking of women who were out chopping firewood, shearing sheep, plowing the earth or on their hands and knees scrubbing until their skin was raw every. Single. Day. Of their lives. If these women just enjoy the American 50s glam vibes, that's cool I mean I do too, but I dislike them trying to pretend this hyper-specific (and _very_ exaggerated, since I _promise_ you most 50s housewives in the US weren't just lying about on their couch in full makeup and their best dress 24/7) moment of American cultural history is a personal statement about how you should live your entire life. Imagine trying to create a whole philosophy about gender roles and how they should live because you went to one party thrown by a 50s housewife and thought, _"Damn, she has it together"_ not even knowing or asking how she made it to that point or if this is how she lives her life on the daily.
suchhhh a good point! i touch on that a bit later in the video as well, but I agree the 1950s housewife aesthetic is actually a really small part of history. I also think if tiktok was a thing back then we'd have tons of real 50s housewives talking about how hard it is, not just romanticizing lounging around and reading in a pretty dress.
As times get harder people believe that trad means they don’t have to do any real work. It’s like them saying this is the easy way out and throwing away our autonomy for a lifestyle that is effortless.
I think sometimes these types of videos (like i played in the video) give people an unrealistic look at that lifestyle too. They make it look like it's all baking bread and frolicking in the garden, but a lot of the time the work never really ends for stay at home moms/wives! Kids don't stop needing care at 5pm
The issue is that the trad wife influencers are not showing the real work though. Making your own bread takes a long time, canning produce takes a long time, cleaning and childcare can consume a large part of one’s day. Even having a homestead and taking care of animals and land, basically being a farmer, is a full time job. Of course nobody is going to watch a one hour video of making bread or of someone weeding they garden, but a two minute video of someone making a loaf of bread in a perfectly clean and stylish outfit is not the reality. I don’t know any real stay at home parent with 3-4 kids and no help who has hours to lounge around each day.
Same thing with people dreaming of living the simple life. The simple life is anything but, and it requires a lot of work, but because Tik Tok makes it look easy and aesthetic it gives clueless people the wrong impression. A lot of the simple life influencers have workers who farm for them.
Yeah I've noticed that most women who complain about how women have to work now unlike "back in the day", its usually because they overwork themselves, or are overworked by bosses and most likely underpaid. With prices rising everywhere its hard to find places to live by yourself, its just stressful to live now in general. It makes sense that this tradwife is popular because I think women are romantacising how easy life was for them supposedly back then.
Just starting vid as I comment: I agree it's okay to be a wife and mother without a job outside the home. HOWEVER, don't put yourself at risk. Have your own bank account with savings you don't touch in it. Do volunteer work outside of the home that can be put on a resume. Still get at least an A.A. degree at community college. Maybe your husband NEVER leaves you, but what if he passes young or what if he gets in an accident and become disabled and unable to work ever again? What will you do? You have no work history and no money? Don't put yourself at risk, if not for your sake but for your children's sakes.
100% agreed! I think it's important for both people in the relationship to protect themselves and any trustworthy partner would understand that! Like you said, anything can happen and it's important to be set up with skills or savings and credit scores that let you survive on your own if need be!
I like your 1970s cottage type vibe in this video with the flowy lacy dress and beautiful hair and i love how you sum up all these ideas and topics and made this amazing video about the tradwife community on tiktok and youtube this video was great. I subbed immediately
Ballerinafarm doesn't seem as unrelatable as Nara Smith because cooking all day every day is what a farm wife does (on a large farm). Also I know that she married into a very wealthy family, but owning and operating a large farm can have HUGE financial gains.
THAT INTRO THO. Amazing video and while i defs think some people are a little goofy with the trad wife thing. I dont necessarily see anything wrong with people just doing what they want and being a "trad wife". As long as they are not hurting anyone or themselves.
The trad-wife lifestyle is used to keep women under men, and it has some serious consequences. It’s not enough to tell women they can live the traditional-wife lifestyle. We also need to preach having back-up plans, getting a degree, having a solid pre-nup, getting on their husband’s pension and insurance, etc. A lot of trad-wives end up having to work a minimum wage job at 40 not even knowing how to pay a bill cuz their husband was the one who took care of everything financial. This is a dangerous lifestyle, and women need to be prepared before engaging in it.
Betty Friedan’s “The Feminine Mystique” was so groundbreaking at the time because it accurately described the misery so many housewives felt being stuck at home. They weren’t able to have their own aspirations, dreams and careers. Women all over were reading it and relating to it. It’s what helped kicked off the second wave of feminism. Having a choice at all was groundbreaking.
Not me watching this in my oversized pajamas and my my hair in a bun with a bowl of chips on my lap 😂and next to me my husband playing on his playstation.. 😂
First, my great-grandmother always said that woman should at least have her own money to buy herself underwear Second, I very clearly see problem in them following very specific "traditional" concept. That technically isn't even traditional as it was in circa 1950s, but that aside - very risky and actually stressful way of living. Like, it's widely known that women in that times were probably very often on tranquilizers, no?, plus as my mother said "what if husband gets sick or dies?" Even in scenario where you won't need a divorce, nobody seem to include dozens of possibilities for sudden 💀 or trauma that will cut off only source of income, even if temporarily. Plus most of those people in USA, where healthcare so expensive that it's easier to 💀 than to pay off your treatment
Thank you so much!! I was a little unsure about the intro im glad you liked it! and agreed honestly, so many call her a tradwife but she really does have a sense of humour about it and it pays off with those views!
I dislike what Estee (spelling?) has to say, BUT my gawd is she so beautiful. Her style is on point, that yellow checker dress. Her golden curls. Her makeup so perfect. She's so freaking beautiful it hurts in my soul. And her style is just top tier. I even like her voice. But, I just dislike her takes and morals, which is sad cuz she would've been so likeable otherwise.
I've seen raisins in conservatives and extremists all over the world. I think we're going down. And talking about tradwives... Women have been fighting for centuries and we're still fighting for our rights to be seen as people, not slaves of men and baby machines, now those women are making our struggles even worse.
Totally, like i see no issue if someone wants to be a 'tradwife' (in the stay at home wife/ mom aspect) but the idea that it's the correct way for women to exist is harmful!
If a woman makes a conscious and deliberate choice to do stay-at-home spouse stuff, honestly it sounds almost anti-feminist to tell her she’s wrong. It’s sad that this lifestyle is being used by alt-right or other bad actors for their own gain, when in concept it should be treated as any other. Are there pros and cons to it, are there specific ideas (like the submission part) that rubs some people the wrong way outside of the relationship, yes of course! But when there is mutual autonomy in this decision in a relationship, without social or spousal pressures, then I don’t think anyone has the right to say you’re wrong for it.
That being said, the issue also comes up that the people in this lifestyle should not be pushed as much as it is. Much like vegetarianism and such, it should be treated as a personal choice and not preached as always correct, feasible, or obtainable.
The way I understand it, self-identified trad wives are about more than being a stay at home wife / mother and there is often an element of feeling better than others. There are pros of being a stay at home spouse and it can absolutely make sense for some couples and some women. Same with enjoying traditional gender roles. I do work but I actually like doing things to take care of my partner, baking treats, etc. The problem is telling women they need to be submissive and men to be manly and macho, implying that any other way is wrong. Of course not everyone is like that, but someone identifying as a trad wife versus a stay at home wife often is also a statement.
Agreed!! I think that a woman's right to choose a lifestyle that works for her is the most important thing. It's unfortunate some people use it to push ideologies that are toxic and can be harmful. Ultimately I think choice is important, and individuals not forcing their own lifestyle as the "correct" lifestyle for everyone!
100% thats how i've seen it online too! I think many people use the term "tradwife" just because it's trending now, but there are just as many people who tie that specific term to a set of beliefs and a lifestyle that they see as the only correct option.
No, it’s anti-choice feminism to tell her she is wrong. Feminism is about the equality of the sexes which is why feminism does not support the trad-wife lifestyle because it’s against feminism to its core, however choice feminism believes that women can make their own choices even if the choice isn’t feminist. It’s a branch of feminism, and you may be surprised to find out that a lot of feminists do not agree with choice feminism for this reason. As for feminism support SAHM. In the past it didn’t, but now more feminists support SAHM because there has been a shift for women who want to be SAHM to have a more equal relationship instead of shouldering everything on their own and living under their husband like they did in the past.
Also the cost of a combine is more than what they spent on their relatively small farm. I don't love tradwife amounts, but I think the arguments people have against ballerinafarm are definitely a reach. If you see someone living on and running a successful farm and you assume that they aren't well off financially that's on you 🤷♀️
I'm very lucky to be a stay at home mom. We're not rich. My husband works in the trades. I was in insurance before I left the workforce. I keep a close eye on our spending now. Every penny counts, but we can still save a bit if we're smart. We avoid debt (especially car and credit card payments). We're politically on the left. I really liked this video! It was very well balanced. Sometimes people make me feel like I've been brainwashed for being home. I just don't want my kids raised in institutionalized care TBH. They're the best part of my life and it felt too unnatural to outsource their care. We took a big hit with me staying home (50% paycut) but it was so worth it. I have no regrets.
I love that! i'm glad you get to be home since thats what works for you and your family. When I have kids I hope to be able to stay home with them as well! And i'm glad you enjoyed the video :)
I do love Nara Smith videos, but mostly because, while not practical, I do love the idea of making things from scratch. So many foods sold in stores contain high fructose corn syrup and bio engineered food ingredients. We have no idea what we are putting into our bodies. I mean if I had the time I would love to make my own bread, cheese, butter, etc...Not necessarily in a beautiful gown, but in my comfy sweats and messy bun haha
Agreed! I wish i had an ounce of her talent for cooking and baking. Being able to make so much from scratch is such a valuable skill! Not to mention probably a lottt healthier since she can control the additives that go into her food.
Bio engineering is important for keeping crops stable and making produce better. Cross pollination and hybridization of apples for example has made better types of apples available. Like the bananas that are around now are a different type than what was commercially available in the 50's because one type at some point was blighted by disease. Please educate yourself on these things from factual sources and not just hearsay from theorists online that use fear mongering tactics.
10:32 if I were the sole earner in a household and came home exhausted to my husband having spent 30+ minutes on his hair and cufflinks I'd be annoyed. Do something productive while I'm doing the same, I want to take a shower I'm not looking at your outfit
100%! Like of course not everyone who makes trad wife content is like that, but to bring it up and admit you know the history and then... not say anything about it is wild.
Hope you enjoy!! I want to know if you like tradwife content or not! ✨

Also the cost of a combine is more than what they spent on their relatively small farm. I don't love tradwife amounts, but I think the arguments people have against ballerinafarm are definitely a reach. If you see someone living on and running a successful farm and you assume that they aren't well off financially that's on you 🤷♀️
Yo. Was the Milkmaid tradwife video done to Mario music 😂
Love the video
Thank you! :)
Lol, that intro
10:32 if I were the sole earner in a household and came home exhausted to my husband having spent 30+ minutes on his hair and cufflinks I'd be annoyed. Do something productive while I'm doing the same, I want to take a shower I'm not looking at your outfit
"People say trad wives are 🥛 superacist but thats now true." No follow up? No elaboration? Just running on "trust me bro" ... okay.
100%! Like of course not everyone who makes trad wife content is like that, but to bring it up and admit you know the history and then... not say anything about it is wild.
Womp womp anti-White racist libturd. 🙄
"Woman" is one woman 14:59 pronounced woomen. More than one is "Women", pronounced wimin. They are different.
