FELT everything you're saying about long vs short-form content. algorithmically-guided, bottomless feeds of short form content feel like the pinnacle of limbic capitalism- i don't love making short-form videos, but it really feels like that's the way to grow art businesses online 😭 if it gives you any peace of mind though, personally i feel like 1 youtube video gets me so invested in someone's work. short-form content is great for reaching a lots of people (when ig decides to show my followers what i make omg..), but long-form videos like yours really have a different kind of staying power and depth to the connection. great video as always! c:
I don’t know if you mean like the recommendations on the Home Screen but if you are, you can remove that, just click the three dots near the top of the line of shorts and there should be a remove option or a don’t recommend option and then they disappear once you refresh your homepage
Social media breaks always give me so much anxiety at the beginning and then towards the end of my break time I'm loving all the things I found I have time for without me staring at my phone. Also, love Earl he's so cute!
I once went to a techless spiritual retreat, not even a phone. I did not know how I would get through it but by the end, we all felt like we didn’t wanna go back to the real world.. We felt relaxed and stress-free.
So many of my art friends are suffering burnout or losing their spark trying to appease the algorithms. It's not fun to be an artist online anymore, things you pour your soul into have a limited shelf life. I think in some ways timelapses have hurt us. I think a lot of people don't realize how many hours we work on something for it to be gotten over shortly after being posted. Yet we're beholden to it because its comply or get no reach. But even when we do comply they kill the reach for arbitrary reasons. The companies keep selling the lie that consistency is what is best, but the whole concept of social media and the consistency required is impossible to do forever for just one person. I really feel like the only way to really get things done is to isolate myself but I also thrive creatively from shop talk with my peers and viewing each others work. Constantly torn between stepping away and coming back to support friends.
Same with my art friends!! I used to love social media and the connections I made, but it’s not fun anymore and I dread using it now. I don’t want to give these companies more of my time and we shouldn’t have to.
I totally get this I’ve been off social media for months even for my art stuff, it’s just too much. Minus discord and UA-cam, I don’t really bother anymore. I love that you get to experience quiet and more natural mornings. It’s not healthy for our brains to wake up and be flooded with stress and negativity!!
could definitely relate to the stuff you were saying about short form/long form content, the grabbing attention thing is real on tiktok and i have noticed my attention span getting shorter and shorter like when watching movies and such.
yeah! I feel like everything I do or make needs to be interesting or else I can't focus.. there are some amazing informative short form content out there, but it's mixed in with a bunch of random other ones lately ;-;
I really like the wry sense of humor that comes out in your commentary lol ik the algorithm doesnt make long form videos reach as many people, but i personally love these longer videos!! They always make me calm and contemplative in the best way.
i'm so so glad you're still doing long form, your literally my favourite artist and i watch your videos while i draw, while i study, i save your makeover etc videos for when i need to tidy up my room, i love to have your videos in my life!!!
seeing you experiment with new make up was actually so healing. lately, I've been very insecure about my own make up, because I felt like I was only allowed to put it on in the most flattering ways, not because I want to try fun new styles
I am convicted. Lately, I've spent too much time watching Asian dramas when I'm trying to avoid pressing deadlines. It's not a good coping mechanism because my stress level keeps going up. I'm taking your video as a sign that it's time to go cold turkey for one week. Thanks!
i use time limits for my social media apps and i find myself just tapping "15 more minutes" without even noticing it and then bam i've wasted another 15 minutes scrolling. it adds up. sometimes i wonder if i should just delete them or maybe get an old flip phone to completely remove the temptation
a lovely vid as always! Also just started to get into both short form/long form video content and it is such a weird thing. I was happier showing my art on social media when I was 13 and it was just a drawing people would comment on or be able to find! Now there's a balance of attention and doing what I want that doesn't feel authentic short form, but I'm enjoying making more long stuff here
Let’s please keep in mind to keep pushing for 🍉🇵🇸 liberation, calling your reps etc. i think it’s a perfect balance to do your detox but still keep yourself in action bc it’s vital. We don’t have to bulldoze all of the traumatic videos but just stay in action!
OMG I WAS JUST THINKING THIS! Okay, imma take this video as my sign to do a social media detox💜💜 thank you very much for sharing your process with us Tiffany!❤
idk if it’s any help but i personally don’t watch short form content at all, for all the reasons you mentioned - i find it too loud, too quick, too everything! and i’m sure i’m not the only one. i watch youtube videos or if i’m on insta it’s to look at pictures, which i can take my time with rather than having it speed past in a reel. i feel like you can connect much more with people that way, and that’s what i want out of social media, otherwise what’s it for ?? and if i haven’t seen a certain artist’s work pop up on my feed recently i’ll go and search their name to check what they’ve been up to
I feel like I see you on YT maybe every two weeks or so. I know its not as often as others I watch. I watch those I like and I find interesting. ❤ But i also find i watch YT so I dont have to think. When i'm not watching something, my thinking turns to past haunts and regrets. I don't know why we do this to our selves... I also feel like people turn to the net so they can keep everyone at arms length too. Makes me sad, but i am just as bad about that too. Sorry for your loss recently! ❤
I've cast rings in silver, I used to do metals in college and I miss it! I like seeing you carve rings. Idk if anyone has mentioned it, but I think you'll have an easier time if you have some smaller files, you can get a set of them for pretty cheap at like Harbor Freight. I think they're called needle files. They come in different shapes that make it easier to work on the inner ring, etc. A wooden ring clamp might help too. You can also sculpt softer wax and attach it to the blue wax. Sometimes it's easier to get details that way than trying to carve them. I love your videos and how peaceful and reflective they are. ❤
Love your videos!! I know you were taking a break but I always look forward to your videos!! I also don’t really consider UA-cam “social media” in that way like you were saying long form vs short form content. I try to limit my times I use social media…I am actually a social media and marketing manager for a company so I hundred percent understand your struggle with trying to avoid social media but also knowing that it is helpful for your job The first step is now you’re at least aware of it and that is always great. You’re so talented and I’m sorry for your family loss! I lost two of my uncles in 2022 four months apart and I completely understand how social media is a distraction for feelings like that but it’s always good to be aware of them and accept them for what they are ❤
i was literally just thinking about this. i guess we are all not doing well.. ive been feeling such a pressure to be active on social media but my brain is so tired
i feel the same about youtube content!! i've been enjoying a lot more watching youtube on tv than scrolling on tiktok or twitter lol i blocked tiktok and twitter on my phone after one hour a day, but i still get lost there... btw i LOVED your big black and white sketches!!! they are gorgeous
sort of obsessed with the markmaking on those big posca sketches??? also feel you on the long/short form content! i've banned myself from tiktok bc i know my brain would not handle it well
I felt the same when I tried using it in a different way :0 I didn't even know Poscas were capable of whispy lines, but the shape of the tip on this one make it so easy???
This video was beautiful💕I love seeing your social media detox videos it’s something I’m hoping to work on one day but also wanted to say the drawings are absolutely beautiful!! I love them🥹✨
Proud to say that you are one of my biggest inspirations , i aspire to be an artist someday and you are just insanely talented , thank u for making this channel and sharing your art 😢❤
Gosh, the detoxing is exactly what I needed! Thank you! (Also, the CEO joke was very funny, LOL) May I ask what audiobook you were listening to at around 11:28? It sounded very soothing.
hahaha thanks! I was wondering if that joke was worth keeping in the video ... I don't remember the exact name, but i just remember searching up scary story podcasts LOL
I just want to say two things. First - maybe shorts are all the rage and grabbing all the immediate attention, but that's because the people watching still scroll away after the same few seconds, but by then the content of the short is over. It doesn't mean the consumers find any more value in shorts than in "longs", it's just the algorythm adjusting itself to give the creators the numbers - "viewing" numbers are not who-watched-the-entire-thing, they are simply the number of initial clicks you got, doesn't matter if the viewer watched the entire thing or not. So, I want to tell you that longer content is way more valuable to me, and maybe the numbers of initial clicks isn't as high for "longs" as for "shorts", but I think the viewing time, or viewing the full content, would be higher for "longs". If there was an option to remove the length of the video from the thumbnail, "longs" would get more clicks because the viewer would click it for the content, for the title, for the interest and not be deturred by how long it is. Create was you want to, what you NEED to because that's the content that comes out of you - the people who find it valuable will watch t and continue sharing your journey, no matter how long or short the content or how often you post. Just like it says in The Artist's Way "create because it needs to be created", because otherwise you'd burst from keeping it in. The second thing I wanted to say, I hope you won't take it the wrong way, this is just VERY friendly advice: About Mr Earl's water bowl. Domestic cats still have primitive instincts, so their habits usually reflect that even if they don't need to. In the wild, if the cat has a meal, a kill, next to a water source, they wouldn't drink the water because it's likely been contaminated by the bacteria from the kill. So, by locating his water bowl away from the food, I'd recommend at least to the other side of the room, you'll see him drink more. Older cats are known for kidney problems, so hydrating is super important because they tend to do less and less drinking. Another tip, you could get a little cat fountain - for the same reason of running water in the wild is usually safer and cleaner than still water - plus there's a benefit of not having to fill his water as often because the basin usually lasts a few days to a week when refiltered. And one more watery fact - Idon't know if Earl does this, but my cats do - they'd prefer to drink from my glass of water than their fountain. That's because my glass is on a table or nightstand, it's higher than the floor - again, in the wild, water from the top of a waterfall are usually cleaner than the water at the bottom. I hope you find this info useful, I can see you love that cat dearly. I love your authentic content, please stay true to you, and I will watch, whether it's 1 min, 50 mins or once every 6 months. Thank you for sharing!🐱
Tiffany that doggy drawing looks just like my little guy Joshua. Would love a print or sticker, hint hint. I really enjoyed seeing you unplug from social media. The way you filmed just added to your message. I do be wasting time on the net.
I'm a UA-cam girl too. I like slower content like yours and it makes me genuinely happy to see a new video and I feel like my consumption is more intentional and I remember what I watch. I have an obsession over Pinterest tho... and I can't get rid of it because one moment I am looking for something specific and ooop I'm in a rabbit hole .
I did a week long detox too expect I detoxed from most forms or consumption like television, social media, reading, and etc; so that I could focus only on creating. (Spoiler alert) I gave into temptation few times throughout that week, but I continued with the challenge despite the setbacks. I filmed my progression throughout the week too and will have that video out soon.
I’ve slowly been doing this. Twitter or x or whatever, is no longer on my phone, and I’m getting close to deleting my account. UA-cam I come on mainly for long form content, but them shorts are terrible if you don’t stop them in time 😂 I never downloaded TikTok, but half of those TikTok’s end up as reels on insta anyways and that’s another black hole for me. Funny enough I’ve noticed my attention span decrease when it comes to blog posts or just reading in general, it’s like I want it to be over but idk why, it sucks. Can totally relate to the dead space feeling, I’m relearning how to enjoy the quiet.
This video couldn’t have come at a better time for me, I’ve been needing a detox too cus my daily phone hours are… Astronomical 😅 (tbh most of it is just having UA-cam/Spotify on in the background though)
My dreams: I am a dragon who has to kill other dragons on an airship, I was cast off the airship for murder, which I then found a second airship to commit murder on. The dream ends with me running through different dimensions and doors and each dimension is a cluttered shop (ex. antique store, kitchen based stores that have like all those cups every where, that kind of thing) and I have to carefully make my way through the cluttered shops without knocking anything over or else the authorities who are after me for murder will catch me. Your dreams: 8 foot tall spider who is a man gets out of your car like it's a clown in a clown car, he has a little fedora on.
Can you please tell me where you got your deer sticker that's on your sketchbook?! 🙏🙏 I've been looking for it in your past videos and I can't find it 😢😢
Could someone link the artist at 5:12? Tried to google the name but probably misunderstood it or it’s just not easy to find bc of all the Marilyn things out there /D
Your talk about short form content really resonated with me. I also prefer long-form content but I want to learn how to make short-form content for my art. The problem is I always feel so bad after watching things like instagram reels, doesn’t matter what the subject is, I just hate the feeling of being sucked into a doom scrolling state. So I make a habit not to watch them (I also refuse to get TikTok as that won’t end well for me) but if I don’t watch them, I’ll never know what I should be putting out on social media 😅🥲
Instead of FOMO, I like to think about JOMO, which is the Joy of Missing Out.
FELT everything you're saying about long vs short-form content. algorithmically-guided, bottomless feeds of short form content feel like the pinnacle of limbic capitalism- i don't love making short-form videos, but it really feels like that's the way to grow art businesses online 😭 if it gives you any peace of mind though, personally i feel like 1 youtube video gets me so invested in someone's work. short-form content is great for reaching a lots of people (when ig decides to show my followers what i make omg..), but long-form videos like yours really have a different kind of staying power and depth to the connection. great video as always! c:
I only have shorts on my channel so far and it’s amazing to see how I’ve grown I’ll eventually get the courage to make longer, real videos 😅
I wish yt had an option to turn off shorts recommendations, would make things so much easier... Also that jewelry box is so cool!
Yeah, that would be great
I don’t know if you mean like the recommendations on the Home Screen but if you are, you can remove that, just click the three dots near the top of the line of shorts and there should be a remove option or a don’t recommend option and then they disappear once you refresh your homepage
I do it with thre BlockTube chrome extension
@@goorodo6949 I think they mean removing shorts all-together from YT... let's say make it a seperate app or something you can turn on and off.
Those drawings ????? They’re amazing wow
thank you :') I'm in love with big pens now
Social media breaks always give me so much anxiety at the beginning and then towards the end of my break time I'm loving all the things I found I have time for without me staring at my phone. Also, love Earl he's so cute!
me too! It's only been my second one since I started doing social media as part of my work, but it really is so lightening
I once went to a techless spiritual retreat, not even a phone. I did not know how I would get through it but by the end, we all felt like we didn’t wanna go back to the real world.. We felt relaxed and stress-free.
Same here immense FOMO and then I’m like the people actually living and doing things aren’t the ones constantly on social media!
It's wierdly important to allow yourself to be bored ☺☺☺
100%

Two things: 1) the need for a detox is so real so I’m absolutely doing this and 2) I’m gonna NEED you to tell us where the blue shorts are from 💕
1) yes yes yes and 2) the blue shorts are actually men's underwear from target LOL

The second thing I wanted to say, I hope you won't take it the wrong way, this is just VERY friendly advice: About Mr Earl's water bowl. Domestic cats still have primitive instincts, so their habits usually reflect that even if they don't need to. Some sections are so funny and cute, love watching your videos! And your art is amazing!!
*Doofenshmirtz voice* Spidey the Spider!
The black fedora got me lol
It got me too, it went from a scary dream to a funny one 😂
Can you please tell me where you got your deer sticker that's on your sketchbook?! 🙏🙏 I've been looking for it in your past videos and I can't find it 😢😢
it's from @foreversoftcore !
Thank you so much!!!
Could someone link the artist at 5:12? Tried to google the name but probably misunderstood it or it’s just not easy to find bc of all the Marilyn things out there /D
Mags Munroe!
@@apple.cheeks thank you!
4:24 it's true 😓
Girl, your screen time was low compared to mine. At my worst I was over 12 hrs/day
What’s that necklace thing that holds your iPhone to film and where did you find it?

❤❤❤❤
i noticed u were gone for a week :' )
I prefer long content becouse i can do other stuff in the same time....
대만 쪽 아니셨나요 한국분이세요??
Omg 😂 no we don’t light 5 candles because you don’t want 3 long and 2 short ones 🤣 sorry but now you must know 😭
Your talk about short form content really resonated with me.
Tiffany never disappoints with her unique and relatable videos 🫡
Btw, if you see this, I love your videos!!! You seem like a great person! ❤❤❤
