Nick Fury would have been arrested then killed for treason if he returned to earth. The President sees him as a traitor who is responsible for the deaths and torture of countless humans. Not to mention he aided and abetted an alien terrorist group who attempted to wipeout humanity. Fury isn’t and apparently never was a man who is loyal to anyone.
All those people clapping like seals during that Feige presentation are exactly what keeps the shit pipe flowing and exactly why studios have no respect for us.
It's totally possible that a good chunk of them were paid for that. I've even heard of places like BlizzCon using cheering audio that plays over speakers in the room with the live audience.

The fact that Fury had a pager to call the “most powerful hero “ in the galaxy, yet refused to use it when the earth was attacked by the Chitari , but instead decides to waste time recruiting a soldier out of time , a Norse god , a rage monster , the best technology guy , and two humans to save the earth , shows a Kathleen Kennedy level of incompetence. It’s a miracle the earth survived. Stupid Nick Fury

When The Amazing Spider-Man came out in 2012, it set up a sequel with its post-credit scene. A mysterious man asks the Lizard if Peter knows the truth about his family. After the movie came out, the writers were asked who the mystery man was. They said "we don't know". Over 10 years later, their response perfectly sums up the MCU post Endgame.
Lol surprisingly if Sony just stepped back and let Marc Webb have full creative freedom to make TASM3 I’d definitely rather watch that than Disney Marvel trash!
@dannypalin9583 Sounds like graduates from the JJ Abrams School of Mystery Boxes. Such stupid-ass bullshit, it's literally laughable! Paid millions of dollars a year and their answer is "I don't know!"
They should've connected Venom to the Amazing Spider-Man. Them you could have that version of Flash Thomspon lose his legs after becoming a marine, and joining a program to become Agent Venom.
The simple fact is the MCU had its ending, which was Endgame. It had finality, sufficient build up to it, and the established characters had definitive culminations of their character arcs, more or less. It doesn’t feel like it was necessary to continue this story beyond that. The MCU now feels like season 9 of a TV show that got renewed unexpectedly.
They need to look at how Godzilla Minus One managed to make bank at the box office with a movie that cost $15million to produce. Hollywood seems to ONLY want to spend as much money as possible during each production, unironically failing to realize that just because a movie costs $300million to make doesn't make it good *_or_* profitable.
Let's be frank, nobody at Marvel Studios even thought in phases until fans adopted the notion of "phases between the Avengers movies" - Kevin so proudly presenting "Phase 4" without a clear ending is at best hillarious.
And why would Black Panther 2 be the end of Phase 4 instead of Quantumania where Kang gets presented as the next big threat? It’s all just a gigantic incoherent mess.
Yeah. Phases used to have some meaning to them. Now it's just..."eh I guess this is enough movies for a phase." There's just no direction or coherent plan.
I thought initially years ago Iron Heart would’ve been that. But I quickly learned it was about a black Mary Sue who was inventing while in the fetus. 🤡🤡🤡🤡
I always thought that would have been an interesting idea as well, honestly he should have been behind the scenes, maybe tony hired him despite not having a degree or anything cause he knows he has a knack for machinary, although tbh I think the fact spider man became something of a "apprentice" (or at least, iron man became something of a mentor) probably screwed that. Having a singular pupil as a mentor gives a lot of time for character development, not to mention who's movie would be burdened with allowing said kid to have charecter development, its clear there wasnt going to be another iron man movie so it would need to be done in ANOTHER characters movie, essentially giving screen time to a side charecter, of a side charecter. Although that being said, you certainly could have interesting dynamics between spiderman and then theoretical "ironlad", espically after tony dies. And it at least sounds better then "random tech genius chick with NO connection to actual iron man, who made a mystical rock detector as a UNIVERSITY STUDENT and procceded to make a iron suit just cause". But theres also just the whole "not every title need to be just a superhero tittle," the best solution would have just been leave ironman as well, tony stark, and let the tittle die (but certainly not forgotten) with the man who adorned it.
@@blazichaos7181 exactly. Killing off Tony was lame! Just have him stay alive but retire, and let someone else have the mantle like Ironlad. But not necessarily called Iron Man.
They're making movies for "modern audiences." No one is quite sure what that means, but based on the product, "modern audiences" seem to be lacking a sense of taste and an enjoyment of narrative coherence.
The after credits scene of the very first MCU movie, Iron Man, told us exactly where everything was going without spoiling things. We learned in Movie #1 that we were building to the Avengers, but we weren't told why, so we were left on the edge of our seats wondering what threat would be so big that Nick Fury would create the Avengers Initiative. After Avengers 1, we had a clear direction. The world will never be the same after the battle of New York, and something bigger is behind the scenes. The infinity stones are fully realized as not just world building but are the primary mcguffin. And it leads us into the story of what happens when you try to end a war before it starts. Which sets us up for Act 3, the final rush for the stones, putting together the last of the team before Thanos himself is revealed in a final epic 2 Avengers movies. Phase 4 should have started out the same. Give us some sort of setup for why we should keep watching, why we should care. Instead it just kind of meandered about replacing men with women and ended without a climactic movie that brought that story together. We kinda got a vague "Kang the Conqueror" bit, but they blew him before he was actually a threat. Thanos grew in the back of our minds for 10 years before we saw him actually DO anything. We knew we should fear him because he was powerful enough to orchestrate everything we'd seen, and we knew he wanted ultimate power. Kang... well we watched him get beaten in Loki, then in Ant Man, and now we're told "But there's a lot of him! Booga Booga!" And they expect that to mean ANYTHING!
Apparently they defeated kang in loki season 2 because of Major's legal issues so all that set up was for nothing. Now they're trying to replace him with a rushed Dr doom character. It's only gonna get even worse from here on
Honestly, it is probably for the best that they had to kill off the Kang narrative thanks to the actor screwing up. It was impossible to salvage him as a threat that needed the whole team to handle after he got beaten by Antman.
Kang isn't Thanos. Kang has always been a human without inate superpowers, even in the comics. He was a scientist from the 31st century who only became dangerous because he invented dimensional travel and time travel and met his other variants and exchanged technology with them. So the problem is not one Kang, but many, especially those Kangs more on the conquering side. Even in the comics, individual Kangs could be beaten, or murdered each other... the issue was the interdimensional war and incursions they created.
Kevin's announcement prior to Phase 4 that the MCU needed more representation and required more female than male heroes is what kind of killed things for the franchise. He took a property that was already inclusive and made it only about certain demographics. Feige has no idea what inclusion actually means.
Well, “inclusion” and “female empowerment” have become code for work agenda at this point and even the average people who want to be entertained and don’t look any deeper have figured out this stuff isn’t actually entertaining. At best it’s edutainment, and that works best for 5 years olds. On top of that Disney forgot its own interests. Disney was known as the princess company, so they set out with the goal of attaining “boy brands” (Star Wars and Marvel Super Heroes) which they decided to make female centric. Because they are stupid. For the most part, girls don’t play with action figures and boys don’t play with dolls. That isn’t sexist or environmental, studies of baby humans to young to be conditioned by society, as well as chimpanzees consistently demonstrate these trends.
The lack of story killed it. You can have your representation, but representation does not substitute story. The woke shows problem is, they think it does.
@@AmityvilleFanstop calling things woke, please, even if you criticize something that deserves criticism, if you call it “woke” no one will listen, because they’ll instead group you in with Republicans on twitter and naturally tune you out. The Marvel Cinematic Universe made itself as small as possible, and killed all sense of scale and dramatic weight in order to make cheap jokes and for instant graitification. They made their whole universe feel the size of a couple cities.
i agree. nwh confirming that oscorp doesn't exist in the mcu it's one of the reasons. a marvel universe without a norman osborn it's lacking in a lot of aspects.
Some fans will cheer at anything. They could have announced the coming of Burpy the Vomiting Sloth movie and they would have cheered on cue. They're the same idiots that keep going to all these lousy movies despite how awful they are... I mean, even the pathetic amount of money being made on each one is still money coming from somewhere.
God, that Kevin Feige clip at the convention was so cringe-worthy - almost as bad or worse than a standard contrived State of the Union Address: Feige: So...I went to McDonalds this morning. Crowd: Whoooo (clapping) Feige: And I ordered a deluxe breakfast! Crowd: Whoooo (clapping) Feige: But, get this... Crowd: Whoooo (clapping) Feige: I also added on an Egg McMuffin! Crowd: Whoooooooooo! (slighty more enthusiastic clapping)
Almost every time that's been tried it's been the end of the franchise. You are teaching fans not to be invested in anything because it all might be a dream. And the fans learn that lesson so well that they stop caring altogether. The multiverse is a smaller version of the same problem because everything is multiplied infinitely and so has no consequences. For example, the 'Loki' from the series is not OUR Loki. He's just some other guy with the same name. Which may be why he ACTS nothing like our Loki. They've already pulled dead characters from other universes to replace dead ones. It's as bad as when they kill Superman and everyone everywhere knows it's not going to stick.
It reminds me of the warning George R.R. Martin gave before HBO ignored him and ruined his books. Eliminate or change a minor character or scene, will create a snowball effect later on. Every tiny scene or character no matter how insignificant at their introduction will become vital towards the end. There are no unnamed, useless NPCs and they are all essential in building the crescendo ending. Change them, and everything downstream will also have to be altered to adjust for their absence. It snowballs until the story breaks, and thus the ending will turn to sh*t.... which it did. Not giving a damn for the lore will result in this sloppy collapse of the franchise. Ones that lack the passion for world building will never be able to produce a quality product.
Seriously, they built up The White Walkers as the biggest threat only to wipe the floor with them immediately in S8 like a Snoke TLJ type twist. 🥸🤦 By the way, I hear The White Walkers are more intimidating and more interesting in the books than the show. Like apparently what I hear they aren’t just mindless evil monsters like they’re infected by a Fantasy zombie virus or whatnot, but instead an actual society and also have their own language and belief in their own religion involving their own gods called The Great Others. They keep them more mysterious and more like eldritch forces beyond understanding and not just zombie creatures like TWD or TLoU.
@ParkerCS2 yes. Just take the two kids that helped Bran... they never explained they are from a different race, very ancient like elves, but more forest-like and small. They have a long history so have knowledge of the Walkers Ned's sister Lyanna, the one that birthed Jon Snow, she defended the kid's father when he was getting bullied (because of his race, he looked small and weak). After yelling at the 3 bullies and they failed to get the message, she wore armor that covered her face to be the secret knight to ride in the big tournament that the king attended. She jousted with all the bullies, clobbered them, and then publicly shamed them about their lack of manners and honor. The two kids are the children of the man she defended. He's too old, so kids were sent to repay the debt to the Starks, so to speak. Everything ties in with everything else, even generations later. Oh, and Stannis isn't dead. Nor did he kill his daughter. He declared that she was to be queen if he fell in battle. Brianne never fought the Hound (he's a silent monk now on an island sanctuary). Sansa never married Ramsay. They sent an imposter and called her Arya. She was a servant girl of the Starks, so she knew enough to pass a test, and everyone had forgotten what Arya looked like because she was so little. Sansa is still with Littlefinger and learning how to play political chess. The little Stark kid Rickon was taken to an island inhabited by cannibals, where no one would look for him. Daenery's story would have made more sense if they included that every city she freed from slavery she installed corrupt leaders so their lives are worse off than before. She constantly leaves famine and disease in her wake. The Greyjoys are a joke. In the books they are like Viking conquerors with a rich culture and history.... and a fleet of badass longboats. They cut all that along with its most important character.
@@margaretballinger2484 I also hear in the books it’s established that there are other undead not affiliated with the White Walkers nor the Wights they resurrect. Like a lot of fantasy franchises have. Skeletons just running about or guarding treasure and whatnot. The only other undead type in the GOT show was The Mountain being re animated as a zombie Frankenstein bodyguard. But yeah, just saying they didn’t even touch many aspects from the books. Also, like there are other threats over the wall like the Ice Spiders mentioned even in the show that never featured, a race of goblin-like creatures with the wish granting power of a genie, etc. The commander of the knights watch did tell Jon Snow in the hbo series that they protect the rest of the world by defending the wall against the Wildlings, White Walkers, and “whatever else is out there”. So despite not showing anything clearly they acknowledged even within the show that there are other threats to the world at large that could threaten everybody. I know not all adaptations can’t showcase everything, but still lots of missed opportunities.
@ParkerCS2 There was an attack on a Nightswatch's camp and they had a big zombie bear tear through the camp, Sam described with chunks of it missing from decay, but it's eyes were blue. And Ned's wife Catelyn, after tge wedding they tossed her in the river. Lord Beric found her. His group are not the religious fanatics portrayed in the show. They are like Robin Hood group that protects the farming folk from bandits and soldiers that raid them. He was tired of being brought back, losing a bit of himself each time. When he found her he was distraught and gave his breath to her. She rose up to be Lady Stoneheart. An undead, very angry mother that is leading the group to track down the ones responsible. "She can't talk, but she remembers." There's so much missing, but it started out very true to the books. About halfway through they started making cuts and getting sloppy. And it shows.
After Endgame ended, I remember saying to myself that if this is how the mcu ended, then I am full ok with it. All the movies after Endgame, besides the Spider-Man films and Guardians have felt so disjointed and very exhausting. I feel like the Disney plus shows killed the momentum of the mcu with way too many content. Hopefully, the X-men can come in and say the day and fix the mcu.
In my opinion it should have ended with infinity war, antmans time travel was really unsatisfying. Just kill off those heroes you want to discontinue for whatever reason in that movie.
They too will be made by the same people. Not to be a blackpiller, cause certainly there's lots of good content out there, but for these mainstream things, I wouldn't hold any hope XD
Much "content", but no movement. What did "Wandavision" accomplish, other than setting up "MoM", which promptly eliminated its central character? What did "Falcon and the Winter Soldier"? "Hawkeye"? "Loki"? "She-Hulk"? "Secret Invasion"? Nothing that happens in any of them really matters to the MCU. They _should_, by many accounts; Disney simultaneously wants them to be must-see and fears leaving the movie-going audience in the dark. They're as substantive as cotton candy, and far less sweet.
When the MCU started all the comicbook nerds were clamoring for this and that comicbook to be adapted, and loudly demanded that _every_ goddamn Marvel character and villain and thing from the comicsbook be shoehorned into the MCU no matter what... the X-Men, Kang, Galactus, Dr. Doom, vampires, demons, witches, everything and the kitchen sink, ... so they are just as much to blame.
They should’ve handled time travel more like Back to the Future logic where stakes can still remain if you mess up doing time travel stuff wrong like accidentally killing your past self or whatnot.
@@RichardDuncan-ju1xk yep probably! Maybe they could’ve had a story not involving time travel and still find a way to bring everybody back, and also not kill off the Thanos we got to know in Infinity War in the first 5 mins and replace him with a generic 2014 version who’s just a mustache twirling villain nothing like the more complex character we knew.
@@ParkerCS2 Killing off half of your own universe for the big OMG moment was the really dumb mistake, there was no way back from it whilst keeping the audience captivated. It's all downhill from there. ie. OMG my planet just got destroyed!!! No biggie, everyone to the time machine. LOL
I agree. Although if Disney wanted to continue they should've did a full reboot set in a separate universe where they had all their characters were already establised including the X-Men and The Fantastic Four. Have a new Black Panther. I would also make this universe far more comc book accurate.
They could've taken a break and planned a new saga. Possibly some holding movies in-between. People would still come out to watch Marvel if the writing was good.
They had already proven what works and should have only improved on it if they had any logic whatsoever. Disney/Marvel utterly decimated what was already a sure thing. It's probably the biggest, most spectacular failure I've ever witnessed in my life and they deserve every second of it.
Infinity war and endgame may have been the height of hype before the new trash, but no feeling will ever match seeing THE AVENGERS in theaters for the first time
The MCU using the multiverse to have non MCU Marvel properties and characters crossover also has been ruining those continuities as well. Disney can 🖕themselves for not leaving them alone and forcing those to be connected. Keep the Fox X-Men Universe separate. Keep Tobey and Andrew Spider-Men Universes separate. No Way Home was a fine one off, but everything else is stupid!
@@Willowy13 the smartest decision on Sony’s part. 💯 Sony also needs to start following the WB DC Elseworlds model or the animated SpiderVerse model of hiring creatives who actually care for the source material and not interfere instead of making a joke of a shared universe. Sony should strive to be the opposite of Disney Marvel. Such idiots over there. But still, respect they didn’t let Kevin ruin No Way Home.
I like that Nintendo isn’t going to just try and make a shared universe, but just instead let multiple companies adapt their IPS in both live action and animated projects and supervise to keep them good quality. I think Illumination having just a Mario Universe is fine, and not forcing everything to be connected is a good thing since cinematic universes are getting tiresome. Nintendo is doing the better approach with just making good movies and shows in collaboration with different studios.
@@GLJoshI don't see why not. Smash Bros as a crossover isn't like Avengers, in that it isn't a cohesive, singular world. The characters in Smash are essentially toys made to duke it out. So a Smash Bros movie could easily pull the multiverse card to bring in characters from separate movie universes (Mario, Zelda, Kirby and the like) to tell whatever story they'd like with those characters. Aside from OP's reasons, the problem with making a Nintendo cinematic universe is that the settings for each series are very incompatible. How the hell do you put Eagleland, Corneria, and Hyrule in the same universe? The most they can try is mixing worlds with similar tone/tech (Zelda's Hyrule with FE's Archanea, or combining the galaxies of Metroid and Star Fox), but all those series have enough lore to carry their own movies. Focusing too much on how to put them together can easily get in the way of telling a good story. The Mario Movie has enough memberberries as it currently stands, imagine how padded it'd get by adding Kirby's Dream Land into the mix.
It’s crazy they introduced captain marvel just so they can demote Thor to a joke. After endgame introducing more “world ending” villains and stakes became boring. We saw planets being blown up and didn’t care we can see characters die and not care because it’ll just be another universe. They should’ve stuck with spidey after endgame and introduced nothing but street level heroes, like iron fist. Can u imagine a story in between the 5 year gap of the snap? How many villains arose during the time of “no hero’s” what a missed opportunity.
After hearing all of the bad news about the MCU Blade movie I'm also concerned about the game by Arkane Studios. Yes they made Dishonored and Deathloop but they also made Redfall so I sure hope the vampire hunter doesn't meet the same fate as that game.
Hot take creating the phases and Announcing them early has only hurt Marvel in the long run. So many films and t v shows would have been quietly removed. Without anybody knowing about it. Hell even the third phase would have done better because they wouldn't have create a terrible Movies that came out during that time too
These writers hate "cannon" and these puppet directors Feige hires have no real power to reel them in, so they write whatever they want, however they want. They don't want to be constrained by anything, be it cannon or source material.
Honestly I had high hopes with the MCU even after Endgame! ...but I learned about wokeness and how it infected the MCU and it slowly devolved into the MSheU I stopped watching them altogether.
So true!!! I remember when they introduced the Jane Foster becoming Thor storyline in the comics around 2015. They had to revert this decision real fast, and had to give back (original male)Thor his title, powers because fans stopped reading Thor comics. XD When I saw that they intended to reintroduce the same storyline to the MCU, which have already failed in the comics, I decided to stop caring about the MCU. T_T There are no heroes left to carry phase 5, since no one cares about the MArvels.

I think that the other biggest Issue with the multiverse part of the MCU now is that nothing actually matters. If a writer or director or actor gets something and they don’t like what was done before then they can just declare the past entry or entries non-canon. Which means that the MCU is no longer a contiguous series or stories with cause and effect but a broad franchise full if individual disconnected stories, because it will be impossible to tell what matters going forward.
I have to admit, there was flaws even back when the MCU was good! Now those flaws have become huge potholes not plot holes! You know it’s sad when Aquaman and the lost kingdom, which I recently saw over the Christmas weekend does a better job explaining stuffthan the MCU franchise, especially the recent stuff!
What If S2 was really freakin entertaining though. Its like they suddenly remembered continuity & storytelling & verisimilitude (S/O Robert Meyer Burnett)
I watched the first 2 episodes and so far they pretty decent. Not great by any means, but not cringe like recent trash. And only 2 episodes in it’s better than a lot from S1 imo. They should relegate multiverse stories to What If and that way they don’t have to force it being connected to the main MCU continuity. Like Twilight Zone, or DC Elseworlds as a better example.
I apppreciate the effort you put in all your videos and the length, but unfortunately I don't have the time to spend. This channel fills the gap perfectly ;)
There's so many post credit and in movie threads that have literally been forgotten or lost the primary actors for. The whole thing has unraveled since Endgame just based on them putting stuff in movies and forgetting about it or not planning to pay it off later.

the Multiverse is just Marvel's excuse to mix/match/reset/redo and put whatever they want in the mix. If you asked: "where did that come from?" Its the Multi-tool. I mean, Multi-verse.
According to this movie, Plank destroyed the Supreme Intelligence and by extension the entire Kree Empire, destabilizing their society SO MUCH they forgot they have space ships and their SUN broke. This happened around THIRTY YEARS AGO. Despite this, Ronin simply continued to wage war against the galaxy without slowing or depleting his resources up until the Guardians annihilated him with the Power Stone. I guess he remembered they had space ships. No wonder he was their top military guy. He's almost as smart as the guy in Rise of Skywalker that knows how to fly up.
another problem is that The Marvels resolves the Skrull issue by just sending them to New Asgard but I'm left wondering why didn't they do that in the first place in Secret Invasion? If they did that the entire plot of Secret Invasion wouldn't happen at all
Years ago I would’ve wanted Disney to adapt the Star Wars Infinities comics into a tv show. But now I probably don’t want them to and would prefer another studio buying Lucasfilm and adapt those instead. By the way, 2 episodes into S2 of Marvel What If and so far it’s surprisingly decent.
i think the MCU got to comfortable with "building to things" what works about what if is that it dosent really have that obligation it can just tell cool stand alone else worlds stories and see character interactions that just really wouldn't make sense in the main canon
As far as that Phase 5 announcement line up... five movies, six D+ shows... what other phase has been that split on where to go to watch the parts of it?
Or sold the rights to multiple companies or made standalone adaptations not necessarily part of a shared universe since Endgame and Infinity War concluded the MCU the best they could. Like The Dark Knight Trilogy, or now The Batman and Joker films approach. Just saying
They fucked up all the coolest characters, and there are no heroes to carry phase 5. I want the heroic, strong men back. T_T Secret invasion could have been the next big thing, which spans over multiple films, and ties everything together. In the comics it is a very big threat, and the Skrulls abduct a lots of people and switch them with duplicates. Also, Daredevil was Echo's origin story. Without him, her origin story becomes very generic.
The Avengers universe should have ended at Endgame. With the start of the X-Men 80s universe starting from scratch straight after. With Wanda being the antagonist to connect the 2 universe's after fase 2 of X-Men
@@RonTodd-gb1eo as opposed to grown man who watch other grown man commenting about comic books based cinematic "universe" as his adult life career? no sir you can't waive that "holier than thou card" here.
I think there should've been more content between Infinity War and Endgame. It would've given the ending of Infinity War more impact, as well as showing how what happened impacted all the characters.
WB has only it’s DC Elseworlds banner going for it with Joker and The Batman and whatever other projects it gets in the future. But I don’t want James Gunn to interfere with Matt Reeves’ and Todd Phillip’s visions. I’m worried with him possibly giving them notes. 😖
So, essentially the main plot behind this predictably failed Young Avengers project is for them to just “ Go…Go out and do a superhero team-up movie. The bad guy will most likely be some random jackass from the comics that NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD OF. Ya’ know…Just like The Marvels movie.”
The fact that you can tell which projects the crowd is most excited and least excited for based on their cheering is hilarious. Even back then before the shows and movies came out they felt that over half of those projects didn’t make sense and were lackluster.

At a certain point, we gott accept that Kevin Feige is a part of the problem as well. He gets a pass because of how well the first few phases went, but hes in complete control now. And the product has been garbage.
Where Disney really fucked up is not buying perpetual licenses to the likenesses of the actors that played these characters, You now have this effect in comics where the face is distinctly different and it's very uncanny, I think the only character that is wholly unaffected is Jay Jhona Jameson since the actor literally looked like the character, but I don't think a iron Man that looks slightly different from Robert Downey Jr will ever work again, though funnily enough, for no reason at all no one gives a shit that hulk doesn't look like Mark ruffalo... I think that's the big town between the characters they handled perfectly and the ones they didn't, iron Man probably can never be played by someone else, who the fuck cares about the hulk though.
they really botched the MCU's cosmic politics for spectacle, Marvel comic canon only ever really had 4 space empires vying for territory but still, Kree empire? wiped out by Carol... twice Skrull empire? non-existent and not respected Shi'ar empire? not metioned, and if they do exist waiting around while everything else is going on is not a good look Nova Corps? destroyed by Thanos offscreen for an infinity stone The United Ravagers are more major political entity in the universe at this point and they are literal space pirates.
It has truly devolved into a sad mess. There's just no plan, no direction, no consistency. It no longer feels like these stories exist in the same universe. Like I'm pretty sure the Marvels completely breaks the lore in Guardians of the Galaxy. The Kree were apparently at war with Xandar...while also having been destroyed by a civil war...and having their sun extinguished? What!? Why the heck wasn't Ronan cutting a deal with Thanos to kill her instead of Xandar? It's just utterly aimless. They have concepts like the multiverse. But everything is just surface level with Marvel. They don't have any real direction and each movie or show just kind of happens. No one keeps it consistent anymore or considers the consequences of what their entry will add or do to complicate things. No one in charge cares and it's no surprise the audience has checked out.
Little Platoon / Lost Chord: Could you do a video on great books about story telling? It is obvious from your video you studied this in college/university, so what are great text books you read about telling a good story that you wish people in the studios would read to get a clue!
That’s a lovely idea! I’ve just taken on a full-time editor for my main channel video, so in theory that’ll leave me with time to do more general short essays on this one. I’ll make a note of it! As a short form answer: I actually *didn’t* study English lit in university. I did philosophy. Where storytelling is concerned, there’s no textbook formula - read lots, read widely, and examine what’s common to the great writers. Reading books is to writing what practicing is to music.
Still no The Eternals or Shang Chi sequel announcements. If they were a success wouldn’t these be due. It’s now Phage 6, judging by how things have gone.
The main problem seems to be the inability to let go! Stories and story arcs have one common feature, a beginning and an end. But no it cannot end (gasp)! Perhaps that is the result of our own finite destiniy that we want stories that never end. But this is not going to happen. One way or another the end is coming, entropy is relentless. We all are destined to die, and so must our stories be. Sooner or later. The one redeeming factor: out there are our descendents and new stories. Yes they are there, we can have new stories, admittedly the new stories tell the same or a similar thing than the old stories, but so it is with those that come after us, our children and those we adopt to carry on our legacy.
No, it's simply the result of the comicbook formula, where bestselling heroes and villains are endlessly revived or otherwise brought back from prison/limbo/the mirrorzone to sell more comics. I was actually happy and impressed with the MCU in Phase 1-4 up to Endgame that they didn't shy away from actually killing villains off permanently and having heroes retire (Captain America, Hawkeye) or die heroically/tragically and permanently (Vision, Tony Stark, Gamora, Yondu). Note: OG MCU Loki being the one exception because he was killed off by Thanos at the _start_ of a movie in a throw-away fashion justwhen he had redeemed himself and made up with Thor and become a hero. Because his story arc was actually continued and finished in the Loki series.
They need to shelf everything at this point because there’s no plan and it’s becoming increasingly clear that every project is aiming to go to a different direction and isn’t building to anything.
From a casual's perspective, I don't necessarily care about how the movies connect to eachother. In the past it was an afterthought, you had a condensed story with other movies in the universe have a coherent story but the main selling point is that they could stand alone. You can watch all of the Iron Man movies without watching any of the other MCU movies and still enjoy them. The end credit scenes were generally the only overt connections. That's why Avengers (the first one) was so hype. All these characters with their own story outside of the movie came together for a cool team up. Seeing those same characters come back together multiple times after even more solo development kept that hype coming up until endgame. Now all the movies seem like they're episodes in a show with no care in the world for the viewer's time. From a character perspective, the characters that carried the MCU and that everyone loved have either been removed (Iron Man, CPT America) or disrespected over and over (Hulk, Thor, even Nick Fury) and you have a bunch of new characters with trash story arcs that no one cares about. Literally the only series I've heard any hype for has been Loki (even though they royally screwed the very end of season 1) because Loki is one of the few characters with a decent story. Even the spiderman/dr strange movie was fine solely because we had characters that we had seen fail and succeed and go through so much before that we'll deal with a bit of bad story telling just to see those characters again... You don't get the same leniency for 7 carbon copy mary sue characters that no one cared about a year ago.
"We've got 3 movies and 2 shows coming out at the same time, and you have to watch them all in order." "Come on, it's not fair, we've had to watch them so you have to."
Guardians 3 sucked. Everyone gives it a pass like ghostbusters after life, but I hated it. Guardians 3 was a rollercoaster to watch. It has very serious tones about animal abuse, and every scene was undercut by some dimwit joke or wise crack and never gave you a chance to feel anything. It was the worst guardians movie. It was not child friendly with all the animal abuse and just did not pass the vibe check. I hate how stupid they've made mantas and drax especially. It just does not seem real how stupid these characters have become. It started with the christmas special, but they have de-evolved these characters and have made them unbelievably foolish. I hate where they've gone with the guardians. For whatever reason, people give this movie a pass, but it was painful to watch.
They shouldn't have released it after Endgame, they should've changed it drastically so that it can come out before Infinity War and have a proper Adam Warlock defeat Thanos in Infinity War and end it there.
To sum up the video in two sentences: Marvel's cinematic universe has fallen into the same trap as the Marvel comic universe: an inability to leave the now-established statis quo and a heavy reliance on multiversal storytelling means the setting and narrative can no longer be meaningfully changed and nothing about the characters is set in stone, leaving the writers and directors to rely on spectacle and supposedly cool "what-if" scenarios that have decreasing returns in turns of payoff for the audience...and eventually the company itself.
4:12 ... Did you add the crowd cheers? I mean... even diehard fans would not be cheering over Shang-Chi or Moon Knight, yet this crowd sounds like the one in Galaxy Quest. Honestly, it seems like he could have said "And we race swapped more characters than the previous films combined!" And be met with cheers.
Wait, Antman 3 began phase 5? What happened to every phase ending with an Avengers movie? I thought we were still in phase 4; what is even the point of dividing into different phases without some big team-up movie that incorporates characters or plot points from previous movies in that phase?

Time travel is all right if that's how the story ends, but now with every major villain why the fuck don't they do time travel, The hulk is still alive, they can't put the genie back in the bottle
People forgot that while the comics had their cross over events, they were mostly isolated from each other. Spider-Man didn't run into the xmen all the time despite both being in new york. Every marvel movie and show being connected hurt the series as it kept growing imo.
@@Khann_2102 You also have the issue always coming up "where is X?" If the current situation is so important why didn't the Avengers show up? Or alternatively you know nothing can really happen, like say New York being destroyed in some big attack because it would also affect all the other Marvel characters based in new york. Which if you think about it, is actually a lot of characters tbh. Off top my head you have Spiderman, Xmen, Punisher in a lot of issues, Daredevil etc.
Yet it's quite a common thing in both Marvel and DC comics to smoosh together different characters and franchises and universes, and the comicbook purists nerds were clamoring for it! but that leads to power creep (like trying to boost Batman to the level of Superman and Green Lantern in the JL so that he can "keep up") or to stories introducing ever more ludicrous cosmic villains. That's the main problem. All those Darkseids and Galactuses and God-King Dr. Dooms. They are BORING.
@@TF2CrunchyFrog While people always like the idea of a "shared world" and cross over events, they are by their nature "events" and things usually go back to normal eventually. Rare is the series of cross overs that last. The stand alone Batman/Superman/Etc comics are in general more popular and longer lasting than any kind of Justice League run for that very reason imo. I think Marvel should of just gone back to single character movies after Endgame. Maybe build up a new cast of interesting people, then 9 or so movies down the road have another "event" to bring them together.
I would’ve loved What If as a Live action show. But 2 episodes into S2 and so far it’s pretty decent surprisingly. I just hope they don’t go downhill from here.

If these people weren’t completely enslaved to profit, Endgame would have been the total end smh

Kevin decided to "wing it!"
I'm frank!
The MCU has already phased into irrelevance and within 5 years, it will phase out of existence.
Ironlad is something I want to see instead of Ironheart. The kid from Ironman 3 had a proper introduction and is enough to expound the character.

It's so cute that Kevin Feige is taking credit for Spider-Man No Way Home
Which sets us up for
Act 3, the final rush for the stones, putting together the last of the team before Thanos himself is revealed in a final epic 2 Avengers movies.
Precisely
Kang isn't Thanos. Kang has always been a human without inate superpowers, even in the comics. He was a scientist from the 31st century who only became dangerous because he invented dimensional travel and time travel and met his other variants and exchanged technology with them. So the problem is not one Kang, but many, especially those Kangs more on the conquering side. Even in the comics, individual Kangs could be beaten, or murdered each other... the issue was the interdimensional war and incursions they created.
100% this.

There was an entire abandoned planet created by Thanos out there she could have used... yet didn't... 🤣
Colonize his pretty planet as an insult to his legacy
They have a long history so have knowledge of the Walkers
Ned's sister Lyanna, the one that birthed Jon Snow, she defended the kid's father when he was getting bullied (because of his race, he looked small and weak).
It might be a good point but it had nothing to do with the downfall of GoT...
"She can't talk, but she remembers."
There's so much missing, but it started out very true to the books. About halfway through they started making cuts and getting sloppy. And it shows.

Just remember that NWH was produced by Sony, which put down its feeet when Kevin wanted to M-She-U it if the rumors are true.

So no Super Smash Bros movie?
@@GLJosh they can make an animated movie or series. Just not part of a shared universe.
@@charlesruteal9062 Subspace Emissary could work as the story for a Super Smash Bros movies. Love that story!

Looking forward to Vulvarine and the Ex-Men
You bet they will have X-23, which was already set and well received in Logan (when we thought she'd not be M-She-Ued).
That and the characters will have the strong female Personality that is executed so badly

I have to admit, there was flaws even back when the MCU was good! Now those flaws have become huge potholes not plot holes!

If they did that the entire plot of Secret Invasion wouldn't happen at all
If we did that, we couldn’t beat down onNick Fury or introduce ANOTHER FEMALE SUPERHERO.

I think there should've been more content between Infinity War and Endgame. It would've given the ending of Infinity War more impact, as well as showing how what happened impacted all the characters.
Thne they would have had to split it into three movies.
there's so many loose threads that have been introduced since Phase 4 that I don't know how they can possibly tie them all up by the end of the saga

The joker was a shit movie ripped from Scorsese and made out of spite and ignorance of the character.
Is the entire crowd nothing but plants?

Just remember a large portion of a Celestial is somewhere on Earth just sticking out. Someone would have to have found that in Google Earth.
18 episodes! -- Crowd cheers without knowing what the fuck it is.
they really botched the MCU's cosmic politics for spectacle, Marvel comic canon only ever really had 4 space empires vying for territory but still,
Kree empire? wiped out by Carol... twice
Skrull empire? non-existent and not respected
Shi'ar empire? not metioned, and if they do exist waiting around while everything else is going on is not a good look
Nova Corps? destroyed by Thanos offscreen for an infinity stone
The United Ravagers are more major political entity in the universe at this point and they are literal space pirates.
It'd be interesting for "The Legendary Star Lord" to encounter "Blip" consequences on alien worlds
15:20 I love A-Train ❤

They need to shelf everything at this point because there’s no plan and it’s becoming increasingly clear that every project is aiming to go to a different direction and isn’t building to anything.
Excellent analysis
The very best thing coming from the MCU this year is the second season of What If. I’m not kidding.
"We've got 3 movies and 2 shows coming out at the same time, and you have to watch them all in order."
"Come on, it's not fair, we've had to watch them so you have to."

Yet it's quite a common thing in both Marvel and DC comics to smoosh together different characters and franchises and universes, and the comicbook purists nerds were clamoring for it! but that leads to power creep (like trying to boost Batman to the level of Superman and Green Lantern in the JL so that he can "keep up") or to stories introducing ever more ludicrous cosmic villains.
