      Nick Fury would have been arrested then killed for treason if he returned to earth. The President sees him as a traitor who is responsible for the deaths and torture of countless humans. Not to mention he aided and abetted an alien terrorist group who attempted to wipeout humanity. Fury isn’t and apparently never was a man who is loyal to anyone.

    The fact that Fury had a pager to call the “most powerful hero “ in the galaxy, yet refused to use it when the earth was attacked by the Chitari , but instead decides to waste time recruiting a soldier out of time , a Norse god , a rage monster , the best technology guy , and two humans to save the earth , shows a Kathleen Kennedy level of incompetence. When The Amazing Spider-Man came out in 2012, it set up a sequel with its post-credit scene. A mysterious man asks the Lizard if Peter knows the truth about his family.
    After the movie came out, the writers were asked who the mystery man was. They said "we don't know".

    The simple fact is the MCU had its ending, which was Endgame. It had finality, sufficient build up to it, and the established characters had definitive culminations of their character arcs, more or less.
    It doesn’t feel like it was necessary to continue this story beyond that. The MCU now feels like season 9 of a TV show that got renewed unexpectedly.

      I always thought that would have been an interesting idea as well, honestly he should have been behind the scenes, maybe tony hired him despite not having a degree or anything cause he knows he has a knack for machinary, although tbh I think the fact spider man became something of a "apprentice" (or at least, iron man became something of a mentor) probably screwed that. Having a singular pupil as a mentor gives a lot of time for character development, not to mention who's movie would be burdened with allowing said kid to have charecter development, its clear there wasnt going to be another iron man movie so it would need to be done in ANOTHER characters movie, essentially giving screen time to a side charecter, of a side charecter.
      Although that being said, you certainly could have interesting dynamics between spiderman and then theoretical "ironlad", espically after tony dies. And it at least sounds better then "random tech genius chick with NO connection to actual iron man, who made a mystical rock detector as a UNIVERSITY STUDENT and procceded to make a iron suit just cause". But theres also just the whole "not every title need to be just a superhero tittle," the best solution would have just been leave ironman as well, tony stark, and let the tittle die (but certainly not forgotten) with the man who adorned it.

  • @MrCovi2955
    @MrCovi2955 11 місяців тому +94

    The after credits scene of the very first MCU movie, Iron Man, told us exactly where everything was going without spoiling things. We learned in Movie #1 that we were building to the Avengers, but we weren't told why, so we were left on the edge of our seats wondering what threat would be so big that Nick Fury would create the Avengers Initiative.
    After Avengers 1, we had a clear direction. The world will never be the same after the battle of New York, and something bigger is behind the scenes. The infinity stones are fully realized as not just world building but are the primary mcguffin. And it leads us into the story of what happens when you try to end a war before it starts. Which sets us up for
    Act 3, the final rush for the stones, putting together the last of the team before Thanos himself is revealed in a final epic 2 Avengers movies.
    Phase 4 should have started out the same. Give us some sort of setup for why we should keep watching, why we should care. Instead it just kind of meandered about replacing men with women and ended without a climactic movie that brought that story together. We kinda got a vague "Kang the Conqueror" bit, but they blew him before he was actually a threat. Thanos grew in the back of our minds for 10 years before we saw him actually DO anything. We knew we should fear him because he was powerful enough to orchestrate everything we'd seen, and we knew he wanted ultimate power.
    Kang... well we watched him get beaten in Loki, then in Ant Man, and now we're told "But there's a lot of him! Booga Booga!" And they expect that to mean ANYTHING!

      Kang isn't Thanos. Kang has always been a human without inate superpowers, even in the comics. He was a scientist from the 31st century who only became dangerous because he invented dimensional travel and time travel and met his other variants and exchanged technology with them. So the problem is not one Kang, but many, especially those Kangs more on the conquering side. Even in the comics, individual Kangs could be beaten, or murdered each other... the issue was the interdimensional war and incursions they created.

    Kevin's announcement prior to Phase 4 that the MCU needed more representation and required more female than male heroes is what kind of killed things for the franchise. He took a property that was already inclusive and made it only about certain demographics. Feige has no idea what inclusion actually means.

    • @stevereynolds5684
      @stevereynolds5684 11 місяців тому +2

      Well, “inclusion” and “female empowerment” have become code for work agenda at this point and even the average people who want to be entertained and don’t look any deeper have figured out this stuff isn’t actually entertaining. At best it’s edutainment, and that works best for 5 years olds.
      On top of that Disney forgot its own interests. Disney was known as the princess company, so they set out with the goal of attaining “boy brands” (Star Wars and Marvel Super Heroes) which they decided to make female centric. Because they are stupid.
      For the most part, girls don’t play with action figures and boys don’t play with dolls. That isn’t sexist or environmental, studies of baby humans to young to be conditioned by society, as well as chimpanzees consistently demonstrate these trends.

And the fans learn that lesson so well that they stop caring altogether. The multiverse is a smaller version of the same problem because everything is multiplied infinitely and so has no consequences. For example, the 'Loki' from the series is not OUR Loki. He's just some other guy with the same name. Which may be why he ACTS nothing like our Loki. They've already pulled dead characters from other universes to replace dead ones. It's as bad as when they kill Superman and everyone everywhere knows it's not going to stick.

    It reminds me of the warning George R.R. Martin gave before HBO ignored him and ruined his books. Eliminate or change a minor character or scene, will create a snowball effect later on.
    Every tiny scene or character no matter how insignificant at their introduction will become vital towards the end. There are no unnamed, useless NPCs and they are all essential in building the crescendo ending. Change them, and everything downstream will also have to be altered to adjust for their absence. It snowballs until the story breaks, and thus the ending will turn to sh*t.... which it did.
    Not giving a damn for the lore will result in this sloppy collapse of the franchise. Ones that lack the passion for world building will never be able to produce a quality product.

Like apparently what I hear they aren’t just mindless evil monsters like they’re infected by a Fantasy zombie virus or whatnot, but instead an actual society and also have their own language and belief in their own religion involving their own gods called The Great Others. They keep them more mysterious and more like eldritch forces beyond understanding and not just zombie creatures like TWD or TLoU.

      @ParkerCS2 yes. Just take the two kids that helped Bran... they never explained they are from a different race, very ancient like elves, but more forest-like and small. They have a long history so have knowledge of the Walkers
      Ned's sister Lyanna, the one that birthed Jon Snow, she defended the kid's father when he was getting bullied (because of his race, he looked small and weak). After yelling at the 3 bullies and they failed to get the message, she wore armor that covered her face to be the secret knight to ride in the big tournament that the king attended. She jousted with all the bullies, clobbered them, and then publicly shamed them about their lack of manners and honor. The two kids are the children of the man she defended. He's too old, so kids were sent to repay the debt to the Starks, so to speak. Everything ties in with everything else, even generations later.
      Oh, and Stannis isn't dead. Nor did he kill his daughter. He declared that she was to be queen if he fell in battle. Brianne never fought the Hound (he's a silent monk now on an island sanctuary). Sansa never married Ramsay. They sent an imposter and called her Arya. She was a servant girl of the Starks, so she knew enough to pass a test, and everyone had forgotten what Arya looked like because she was so little. Sansa is still with Littlefinger and learning how to play political chess. The little Stark kid Rickon was taken to an island inhabited by cannibals, where no one would look for him.
      Daenery's story would have made more sense if they included that every city she freed from slavery she installed corrupt leaders so their lives are worse off than before. She constantly leaves famine and disease in her wake.
      The Greyjoys are a joke. In the books they are like Viking conquerors with a rich culture and history.... and a fleet of badass longboats. They cut all that along with its most important character.

      @@margaretballinger2484 I also hear in the books it’s established that there are other undead not affiliated with the White Walkers nor the Wights they resurrect. Like a lot of fantasy franchises have. Skeletons just running about or guarding treasure and whatnot. The only other undead type in the GOT show was The Mountain being re animated as a zombie Frankenstein bodyguard. But yeah, just saying they didn’t even touch many aspects from the books. Also, like there are other threats over the wall like the Ice Spiders mentioned even in the show that never featured, a race of goblin-like creatures with the wish granting power of a genie, etc. The commander of the knights watch did tell Jon Snow in the hbo series that they protect the rest of the world by defending the wall against the Wildlings, White Walkers, and “whatever else is out there”. So despite not showing anything clearly they acknowledged even within the show that there are other threats to the world at large that could threaten everybody. I know not all adaptations can’t showcase everything, but still lots of missed opportunities.

      @ParkerCS2 There was an attack on a Nightswatch's camp and they had a big zombie bear tear through the camp, Sam described with chunks of it missing from decay, but it's eyes were blue.
      And Ned's wife Catelyn, after tge wedding they tossed her in the river. Lord Beric found her. His group are not the religious fanatics portrayed in the show. They are like Robin Hood group that protects the farming folk from bandits and soldiers that raid them. He was tired of being brought back, losing a bit of himself each time. When he found her he was distraught and gave his breath to her. She rose up to be Lady Stoneheart. An undead, very angry mother that is leading the group to track down the ones responsible. "She can't talk, but she remembers."
      There's so much missing, but it started out very true to the books. About halfway through they started making cuts and getting sloppy. And it shows.

    I like that Nintendo isn’t going to just try and make a shared universe, but just instead let multiple companies adapt their IPS in both live action and animated projects and supervise to keep them good quality. @@GLJoshI don't see why not. Smash Bros as a crossover isn't like Avengers, in that it isn't a cohesive, singular world. The characters in Smash are essentially toys made to duke it out. So a Smash Bros movie could easily pull the multiverse card to bring in characters from separate movie universes (Mario, Zelda, Kirby and the like) to tell whatever story they'd like with those characters.
      Aside from OP's reasons, the problem with making a Nintendo cinematic universe is that the settings for each series are very incompatible. How the hell do you put Eagleland, Corneria, and Hyrule in the same universe? The most they can try is mixing worlds with similar tone/tech (Zelda's Hyrule with FE's Archanea, or combining the galaxies of Metroid and Star Fox), but all those series have enough lore to carry their own movies. Focusing too much on how to put them together can easily get in the way of telling a good story. The Mario Movie has enough memberberries as it currently stands, imagine how padded it'd get by adding Kirby's Dream Land into the mix.

If a writer or director or actor gets something and they don’t like what was done before then they can just declare the past entry or entries non-canon. Secret invasion could have been the next big thing, which spans over multiple films, and ties everything together. In the comics it is a very big threat, and the Skrulls abduct a lots of people and switch them with duplicates.
    Also, Daredevil was Echo's origin story. Without him, her origin story becomes very generic.

    Where Disney really fucked up is not buying perpetual licenses to the likenesses of the actors that played these characters, You now have this effect in comics where the face is distinctly different and it's very uncanny, I think the only character that is wholly unaffected is Jay Jhona Jameson since the actor literally looked like the character, but I don't think a iron Man that looks slightly different from Robert Downey Jr will ever work again, though funnily enough, for no reason at all no one gives a shit that hulk doesn't look like Mark ruffalo... I think that's the big town between the characters they handled perfectly and the ones they didn't, iron Man probably can never be played by someone else, who the fuck cares about the hulk though.

    Kree empire? wiped out by Carol... twice
    Skrull empire? non-existent and not respected
    Shi'ar empire? not metioned, and if they do exist waiting around while everything else is going on is not a good look
    Nova Corps? destroyed by Thanos offscreen for an infinity stone
    The United Ravagers are more major political entity in the universe at this point and they are literal space pirates.

    It has truly devolved into a sad mess.
    There's just no plan, no direction, no consistency. It no longer feels like these stories exist in the same universe. Like I'm pretty sure the Marvels completely breaks the lore in Guardians of the Galaxy. The Kree were apparently at war with Xandar...while also having been destroyed by a civil war...and having their sun extinguished? What!? Why the heck wasn't Ronan cutting a deal with Thanos to kill her instead of Xandar?
    It's just utterly aimless. They have concepts like the multiverse. But everything is just surface level with Marvel. They don't have any real direction and each movie or show just kind of happens. No one keeps it consistent anymore or considers the consequences of what their entry will add or do to complicate things. No one in charge cares and it's no surprise the audience has checked out.

    Little Platoon / Lost Chord: Could you do a video on great books about story telling? It is obvious from your video you studied this in college/university, so what are great text books you read about telling a good story that you wish people in the studios would read to get a clue!

    The main problem seems to be the inability to let go! Stories and story arcs have one common feature, a beginning and an end. But no it cannot end (gasp)! Perhaps that is the result of our own finite destiniy that we want stories that never end. But this is not going to happen. One way or another the end is coming, entropy is relentless. We all are destined to die, and so must our stories be. Sooner or later. The one redeeming factor: out there are our descendents and new stories. Yes they are there, we can have new stories, admittedly the new stories tell the same or a similar thing than the old stories, but so it is with those that come after us, our children and those we adopt to carry on our legacy.

    • @TF2CrunchyFrog
      @TF2CrunchyFrog 11 місяців тому +1

      No, it's simply the result of the comicbook formula, where bestselling heroes and villains are endlessly revived or otherwise brought back from prison/limbo/the mirrorzone to sell more comics. I was actually happy and impressed with the MCU in Phase 1-4 up to Endgame that they didn't shy away from actually killing villains off permanently and having heroes retire (Captain America, Hawkeye) or die heroically/tragically and permanently (Vision, Tony Stark, Gamora, Yondu).
      Note: OG MCU Loki being the one exception because he was killed off by Thanos at the _start_ of a movie in a throw-away fashion justwhen he had redeemed himself and made up with Thor and become a hero. Because his story arc was actually continued and finished in the Loki series.

    From a casual's perspective, I don't necessarily care about how the movies connect to eachother. In the past it was an afterthought, you had a condensed story with other movies in the universe have a coherent story but the main selling point is that they could stand alone. You can watch all of the Iron Man movies without watching any of the other MCU movies and still enjoy them. The end credit scenes were generally the only overt connections. That's why Avengers (the first one) was so hype. All these characters with their own story outside of the movie came together for a cool team up. Seeing those same characters come back together multiple times after even more solo development kept that hype coming up until endgame. Now all the movies seem like they're episodes in a show with no care in the world for the viewer's time.
    From a character perspective, the characters that carried the MCU and that everyone loved have either been removed (Iron Man, CPT America) or disrespected over and over (Hulk, Thor, even Nick Fury) and you have a bunch of new characters with trash story arcs that no one cares about. Literally the only series I've heard any hype for has been Loki (even though they royally screwed the very end of season 1) because Loki is one of the few characters with a decent story. Even the spiderman/dr strange movie was fine solely because we had characters that we had seen fail and succeed and go through so much before that we'll deal with a bit of bad story telling just to see those characters again... You don't get the same leniency for 7 carbon copy mary sue characters that no one cared about a year ago.

It has very serious tones about animal abuse, and every scene was undercut by some dimwit joke or wise crack and never gave you a chance to feel anything. It was the worst guardians movie. It was not child friendly with all the animal abuse and just did not pass the vibe check. I hate how stupid they've made mantas and drax especially. It just does not seem real how stupid these characters have become. It started with the christmas special, but they have de-evolved these characters and have made them unbelievably foolish. To sum up the video in two sentences: Marvel's cinematic universe has fallen into the same trap as the Marvel comic universe: an inability to leave the now-established statis quo and a heavy reliance on multiversal storytelling means the setting and narrative can no longer be meaningfully changed and nothing about the characters is set in stone, leaving the writers and directors to rely on spectacle and supposedly cool "what-if" scenarios that have decreasing returns in turns of payoff for the audience...and eventually the company itself.
