I almost didn't watch this video because I thought what is this young woman going to tell me that, as a major world traveler for the last 45 yrs, I don't already know? WRONG...this is one of the best, if not THE best travel video I've ever seen!! thx
what? most tips were extremely basic 👀 i only found the antimicrobial face mist interesting but it’s not available in my country.

I started buying luggage with crazy colors and patterns for the sole purpose of being able to find it in the airport. Nothing of mine matches and almost glows in the dark but I have no worries about anyone grabbing my luggage on accident. I also pack a couple of different pillow cases, 1 silk body pillow case - I shove 2 hotel pillows in and like magic I have a body pillow. 2. I like to use pillow cases for laundry bags. 3. I also like to place my own pillow case over my sleeping pillow just just a touch of home in a hotel. Again I buy crazy colors so I know it is mine and it does not get mixed up with hotel laundry. Since all of the hotels that I stay in have laundry rooms - I pack light and plan on doing laundry in the middle of my trip. I stick a couple of laundry pods in an old medicine bottle along with a $5. The front desk always as quarters for the machines. It only takes a couple of hours and I have fresh clothes for the rest of the trip.

As a flight attendant I can’t tell you that everything mention on this video it’s a MUST when traveling! Specifically the blanket, due to covid most airlines are not giving blankets (only for long flights) thank you for this video 🤍☺️

I bring a 3lb weighted child blanket. It's the size of a baby blanket but the extra soft weight adds to the comfyness and security. I end up using in the hotel as a pillow cover or as a blanket for extra warmth. I also bring a large microfiber bath towel which can be used as a blanket, but I use it as a towel because I hate hotel towels. Microfiber is so thin, so it doesn't take up too much room. I also have one of those travel wallets too, but mine zips all around, because I WILL lose things if it doesn't.

The door lock is a really good idea. I would totally buy it for safety reasons. However, With my fiancé being a fireman I seeing that being an issue if there was a fire. The struggle is real. Having fireman in the family always makes you see things on both sides.
There's this one product i forgot the name it's like a door stopper but it's just a button that will activate an alarm when the door opens and wake up the person

Plastic bags work just fine for shoes and take up less room. If you are using black or gray luggage tie a colorful ribbon on it and that way you can spot it easily .
Amazing tips! Thanks for sharing. What you shared about your room experience is actually quite common. There was a news show it might have been 60 minutes that did a story on women traveling being attacked/raped by hotel and cruise staff. So, your lock idea is a good one. I love how you handled yourselves with the employee. Next time call the desk and report it. If this makes you uncomfortable call the local police dept. and file a report. If you can see his name jot down that, along with his description and the time the incident occurred. If you suspect that he's the only one on duty then you can report it in the morning, but report it as soon as possible and always ask for the district manger not just the local manager. It should be corporately reported or reported to the highest level possible. There's no way that he was bringing room service. He hesitated with you ladies because you were alert. But, remember you've got to report these incidents not just to protect yourselves but the next unsuspecting traveler. He'll do it again. Let's loo out for one another. It's never too late to report these things. Great tips and I intend to purchase the lock myself.
Yes it’s so scary! I told a hotel manager and he brushed it off like it was no big deal and said that the employee thought that the room was empty....
@@KatieMusser That's why you never leave it with the manager. These people are friends and cover for this behavior. Please contact above his level. They need to be investigated and monitored. I use to work in the industry and things happen. But, when you report above the level it's amazing how things all of sudden become important. Women being preyed upon is like a keg of dynamite in the industry. This has to be handled. I travel alone and I take precautions too. All the best to you.

I think this advice is only relevant in some societies… plenty of countries wouldn’t even care that male staff have walked in a lone female’s bedroom…sometimes due to their cultures perception of western women who travel alone, also the front desk staff don’t necessarily speak English… I had this happen twice last week in the Middle East, so have ordered a door lock immediately upon my return.

Nice video! Yes, I too bring my own pillowcase while traveling. I do suggest getting a different color than white so when packing to leave it will stand out and you won’t leave it behind.

Before COVID I traveled by myself pretty frequently and in the back of my mind I was always scared of someone breaking into my room or following me back to my room and doing something to me 😕 hearing your story really scared me so definitely investing in that lock! This is so nice Katie! I might as well add some of the list to my travel essentials! In speaking about travel essentials, I could not make the travel bag I am using out of my list. The Nomad Lane Bento Bag I am using is such a must have for every traveler. A carry on duffel bag that packs like a suitcase always make my travel so comfortable.

I have the make up mirror and purchased last year at TJM. It is so great for those reasons that you said. Most hotels do not have good make up lighting and only one sink, so if you are with another traveler, while one is showering and fogging up the mirror, this comes in handy at the desk to get ready. Plus it is super lightweight for easy packing for sure. Only thing is that a sleeve would be nice to put it in. Thanks for door lock info.. need that for sure! Creepy. Yikes!!

I have the same luggage in white and they are super durable I was really surprised given their low price. Totally agree with this set is a travel must have!!
I always take a king size flat sheet with me. I place it right over the bed and i feel better about hotel bedding after that. But last time i forgot to pack it and now i need to replace it

I always take my own pillowcase also. I take a colored case so I don't forget it when I pack up. I've left many cases before I changed to colored cases.

Thank you thank you…first off glad that you are ok from that freak situation in the hotel that could’ve easily gone wrong. I had something similar happen to me and I ended up getting robbed while I was sleeping in a hotel. I think my door didn’t lock all the way. I’m definitely getting that safety door stopper because ever since that situation I get very uneasy at hotels. If there’s no safety lock which not all hotels have I will put something heavy by the door to block it or at least wake me up. Also…FINALLY something for my sunglasses that I can travel with. I’ve been searching for something compact that’ll hold more than 2. Thanks again for all these items. I’m a pro traveler yet I still find things that can make my life easy. 😁

That glasses carrier is a game changer! I wear eyeglasses and when I travel for vacation I want options! Well last time I went on vacation I had a couple pairs break 😢 so that carrier is a must for me!

Just FYI from someone that works for the airlines. The checked luggage lock will be ripped off if locked by TSA. If your bag is tagged for a search before it is placed inside the plane in cargo. It can only be locked by a TSA approved lock or a zip tie(what I use).
The listing for this luggage stated this was a TSA approved lock :) Good to know for other luggage though!

I use those twisting perfume bottles for liquid hand sanitizer and keep them under my bra strap so I *always* have hand sanitizer on me. Love those things.

I seriously think you mostly covered all grounds just missed 1 which was the packing cubes! Those are definitely a MUST HAVE!!!!! Other than that I loved all your recommendations and even think a lot of what you mentioned can be useful on a normal day and even if your traveling with kids so thanks so much for sharing!!! Glad your okay as well I would of definitely made a HUGE complaint to Corporate Headquarters regarding that hotel staff. That's invading your privacy and should definitely be investigated because the next time around anyone else won't be as lucky as you so you might be able to prevent something from potentially happening. Just food for thought. xx ♥️
