I really wanted to buy this set, but the price is out of my range due to what’s going on here in uk, I have to say no to things no! It does look very nice and maybe there will be another chance to buy the set, if a second run is released!
The coaches and observation car are really lovely, kudos to Hornby for these coaches! Hornby should replace that chip free of charge, I found their customer service very good with replacing faulty DCC chips.
I'm tempted to buy the whole set (currently have the observation car) but I don't yet have a big enough layout to run them all on. I recently sold my two copies of Mallard too. I have set almost all of the HM7000 decoders up using my Gaugemaster Model D (DC) on full power then changing to DCC once set up. The last two I set up on DCC power (Gaugemaster Prodigy Express) and none have blown (yet).
Nice looking set! I'll be looking to see if you are successful with other Hornby decoders. Fortunately I've never toasted a decoder before. Or I should say "yet" 😆
Ive blown a few decoders on the main track( higher current) but never one on the programming track! I am shocked that something so expensive can die within seconds. This is the downside with dcc as this can happen way after warranty has expired
They look beautiful. I'll pick my observation coach up at my local model shop once I get back off holiday.

Working with Rails (where it came from) on a replacement!

I've toasted a couple and they have been replaced FOC, have another decoder arrived today - will see how it works!
