    Man, when Allison drops down to the inside with 3 laps to go challenging Earnhardt for the lead, the roar of the crowd is profound. I forgot how popular Davey was, a true challenger to the Man in Black. I am so thankful I was a fan during a true golden age of this sport.

      Davey broke his hand after the race when he punched the wall of his hauler. He wanted to beat Earnhardt so bad especially at his hometown but he needed the help from the other Ford cars to get by him.

      I know your comment is a year old, but I feel the exact same way. I was a month short of my 21st birthday and never thought this awesome racing changing. I watched this race while I worked in my shop today on an old tube TV using a digital to analog converter. It makes me feel like it’s live. Sometimes I get so caught up I forget it’s not.

    Compared to today's racing at Talledega & Daytona, this looks safer because of the lack of constant pack racing. In my opinion, last year's (2022) race at Atlanta's newly newly configured track made it a more exciting race than Talledega & Daytona.

    Dale Earnhardt always dominated Talladega but in 1990 and 1991 no one could touch him 3 wins and a third (Harry Gant won the race on Gas Mileage) he lead 454 of 752 laps 60%, quite simply he owned Talladega.

    Probably 85 to 95 were the best years to be a nascar fan. In this race sterling Marlins Jack man got hurt and the car owner junior Johnson took over the Jack man duties😎......you’d never see this kind of thing happen today. The cars looked the best and sounded the best and had some of the best drivers and teams from the past and present racing head to head. You had teams like petty enterprises when they were still competitive along with teams like junior Johnson’s, Digard and Childress and then you had new teams like Hendrick, Gibbs, Penske, Yates and Roush trying to make a splash in cup. All the current team powerhouse owners started in that era 😉

  • @nascarvintage17
    @nascarvintage17 4 місяці тому

    I can understand that Ernie Irvan was probably a bit too agitated at the time, and '91 was still relatively early in his Winston Cup career. He had only been in WC for 3 or 4 years, if I remember correctly. But to have the wisdom to take the microphone, apologize, and acknowledge his bad behavior, humbly, I found it quite moving. It must not have been easy, especially when you see Rusty Wallace not applauding, which might suggest he wasn't necessarily in agreement.
    13:54
    No way, am I dreaming or what? I just realized that we could hear the drivers explaining their strategy or communicating with the pit crew 100 times better back in the day compared to today in 2024 with the technology we have, lol. I swear, compare Ken Schrader talking to Ken Squire back then and Larson communicating with the pit crew today, and you'll see the astronomical difference.

    I was at this race, Earnhardt went out in the last practice on Saturday and got up to speed in about 2 laps went into turn 3 turned under about 5 or 6 ford's that was drafting together and dale went from top to the bottom right in middle of 3 and 4 and when he come off turn 4 he pulled up in front of them and went back to the bottom and backed off and went to the garage, they put a tarp on it. The rest of cars kept on practicing and dale left the track, everybody knew that was there you wasn't gonna beat Earnhardt, no way in hell. Nobody in that track had the balls to make that move , much less pass 5 cars doing it. Seriously

    • @dylanwatson1287
      @dylanwatson1287 2 роки тому

      I think that's why Davey broke his hand after the race and got out of his car and punched the side of his hauler. He was so mad that his "Ford teammates" didn't help him get passed Earnhardt at the end. Earnhardt's Stranglehold on the sport pretty much came to an end after the 91 season. Yeah he won his last two championships in 93 and 94 but other teams like Yates, Roush and of course Hendrick started to make winning and dominating races and championships more difficult for Big E and Childress.

  • @nascarvintage17

    And then there was something powerful at the time when the black demon raced by at full speed. In the last three laps, you could hear the crowd screaming with joy. It was crazy.
    From a personal point of view, if NASCAR wants to maintain the excitement of the 80s and 90s, they should go back to using cars like the Chevy Lumina, Ford Thunderbird, Buick Regal, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Pontiac Grand Prix, and Buick LeSabre. They should also bring back the Chrysler Mopar cars. Additionally, they need to add flaps to prevent cars from flipping like what happened to Rick Mast at 02:51:16. They should keep the look and especially the paint schemes from that era. Nowadays, it feels like they took a pigeon, stuffed it, and then threw colorful paint tubes at the cars to create a scheme. Seriously, safety is important, but at what cost?
    Also, today's drivers lack class and personality. I'm sorry, but even Kyle Busch, when I see him, I feel like the fans, the people annoy him, like he's fed up with talking to people about racing. Honestly, I love NASCAR, even today I watch it, but I have to force myself. That's the problem. I force myself, thinking, "You never know, there might be a cool event," and I don't want to miss it. But then, we watch today's races, and after 2 or 3 hours, we're like, "Damn, this is boring." Twenty-five yellow flags, cars finishing as new and in good condition as when they started... In the end, thank goodness for UA-cam and Smiff TV uploading the best NASCAR races ever.
