I need help. My dog always goes as high as his front legs will take him and goes down no problem. But no matter how much I try, he's scared to put his back legs on the way up. Any tips?

I hope this works for my girl. She'll probably just go to the side and pick it up, she's very clever. Right now she doesn't want anything to do with the steps. I'll give it another try, thanks so much!

Thanks for commenting! The real key is to be patient and reward even the slightest try (ie, glances at the stairs) when starting. Then, ask for a little more. Pretty soon they understand it's "something about the stairs" that is getting them the reward. If she does start going to the side, rather than leaving the treat on the stairs, you can lure her up the stairs and only give it to her when she's in front or on stairs but not if she goes to side.Good luck and have fun!

I appreciate the tips so much. She a rather large dog with hip and joint issues and the jump from seat to ground in my car is hard on her. I'll keep trying, thank you!

I got stairs because my dog is tiny (ponchi breed just in case you wanted to know ) and my family is tall so everything is so tall to her and we started to feel bad because she keeps trying to jump up and ends up falling on her bed

Any advice for a blind dog? Right now she is jumping on things but I am afraid she could fall. I don't want her to lose her ability or confidence to jump but I also don't want her to get hurt.

Wow! That is a challenge and scary for you. Can she see enough to know that she's jumping on her usual resting places (ie, the couch or bed)? It would seem like a ramp would be the best choice for a dog with limited vision since seeing each step might become difficult.

As far as I know, she is totally blind. She is usually ok but sometimes she misjudges stuff. I have never seen a ramp for a dog but I have seen stairs. She can jump on the couch or recliner. I had her on the bed today.. I don't think she has ever jumped from a bed in her life. She does not like me to pick her up. She tries to bite me. I tried to have her jump from the bed to a chair I brought in the room.. but of course she did not know how far to jump, so she jumped part way past the chair. I caught her so she didn't fall to the ground. (She was not born blind, it came on gradually.) The bed is a hospital bed. I forgot I could have lowered it farther to the ground.
She uses a ramp to go outside because we already had one for my Dad. She has fallen off of it before but usually she is ok. I say "Careful" if she is headed for the edge.
She sleeps with my Mom in a recliner. My mom broke her leg and is in a rehab center. I thought maybe my Mom might want to use the bed when she came home.
