It's so sad, we had are kitten for 7 months, and hes big now. For the last past month hes been crying like someone is killing him. Day and night, he literally never stops unless he falls asleep, then he starts back as soon as hes eyes open. I cant take it anymore. No one in the house gets sleep anymore. We had a family meeting and even the kids decided he has to go, even though we love him, hes driving everyone crazy!
Maybe the cat was lonely? What did you guys end up doing? I would suggest getting another cat (Cats typically like interacting with each other and lots of people recommend getting cats/kittens in pairs)

I know this comment was long ago but for other people who have the same problem, your cat probally wants attention or more carr/love especially kittens. My kitten also does this. Its a common phase for cats and kittens. But its not always just a phase, it can be serious and i sugest you bring your pet to the vet to make sure just incase.

Not a particularly helpful thing to say really. I'm a "cat person", looked after them all my 40 years, had 10 of my own, fostered many times that number and done plenty of volunteer work in local cat shelters and animal sanctuaries and now finally I can say I've met my match. We have 1 (of our 5 current cats) that is unbelievable. He never shuts up when he wants something. He's not in pain or scared, his breed isn't prone to vocalisation, he's just learned (as an adult, not a kitten) that persistent meowing will eventually get attention and boy does he have some stamina. He'll keep it up for hour after hour, meowing every 10 seconds. We've tried giving in, shouting, chasing away, throwing things (and missing) and the obvious one of ignoring. None of it seems to have any effect. Having been around so many cats over the years I'd say I can recognise personality traits pretty well and used to work with taming ferals (cat psychology and body language type stuff) and my conclusion so far is that this fella is just nuts. Cats are a lot like people, more so than dogs (we have one of those too who is "mother" to all the cats). They have all the same potential character flaws and oddities that we see in ourselves, whereas dogs are generally much more happy-go-lucky. A lot of the time, behaviour can be modified positively if you recognise what and why it's happening, but occasionally you just come up against a brick wall. I would encourage everyone who has taken on the joy (and responsibility) of looking after a cat to be patient and proactive if things don't always go to plan; read up, talk to professionals and enthusiasts either directly or through the internet, and above all be kind to yourself and the cat(s). If you've given it as much of a try as you think you can or should, then look at having the cat rehomed (never have a healthy cat put down). Before anyone jumps down my throat... no we're keeping this little aforementioned bollocks (bless him), we deserve each other :P

Given yours is 2 weeks old, it must be hungry pretty much around the clock. There is no mother for it to suckle milk from so...

Meow, how can we stop humans from talking? The idea of stopping cats from meowing is as stupid as trying to stopping humans from talking. It is better to find out what they are trying to say (meowing). Cats do not talk other cats via meowing but they will talk to humans via meowing.
The purpose I this is when you have a cat screaming meow once every breath it fucking takes and it keeps you up all night, annoys the piss out of you and gives you headaches, so take your tree hugging shit some wear else

Lucky Loonies I get what you're saying but when a cat meows constantly in your sleep or 24/7 it's pretty damn annoying. Just like a person that talks too much. I rather deal with the person that talks too much then a annoying cat because at least I know what that person is saying. Dealing with a annoying cat is like a baby constantly crying.

The short answer is: You don't. They're cats. Meowing is how they talk to you. It would be better to find out what he or she wants. Trying to make a cat not meow is like asking a river not to run.

Not a particularly helpful thing to say really.
I'm a "cat person", looked after them all my 40 years, had 10 of my own, fostered many times that number and done plenty of volunteer work in local cat shelters and animal sanctuaries and now finally I can say I've met my match. We have 1 (of our 5 current cats) that is unbelievable. He never shuts up when he wants something. He's not in pain or scared, his breed isn't prone to vocalisation, he's just learned (as an adult, not a kitten) that persistent meowing will eventually get attention and boy does he have some stamina. He'll keep it up for hour after hour, meowing every 10 seconds.
We've tried giving in, shouting, chasing away, throwing things (and missing) and the obvious one of ignoring. None of it seems to have any effect. Having been around so many cats over the years I'd say I can recognise personality traits pretty well and used to work with taming ferals (cat psychology and body language type stuff) and my conclusion so far is that this fella is just nuts.
Cats are a lot like people, more so than dogs (we have one of those too who is "mother" to all the cats). They have all the same potential character flaws and oddities that we see in ourselves, whereas dogs are generally much more happy-go-lucky.
A lot of the time, behaviour can be modified positively if you recognise what and why it's happening, but occasionally you just come up against a brick wall. I would encourage everyone who has taken on the joy (and responsibility) of looking after a cat to be patient and proactive if things don't always go to plan; read up, talk to professionals and enthusiasts either directly or through the internet, and above all be kind to yourself and the cat(s). If you've given it as much of a try as you think you can or should, then look at having the cat rehomed (never have a healthy cat put down). Before anyone jumps down my throat... no we're keeping this little aforementioned bollocks (bless him), we deserve each other :P
