Crazy how he writes so many songs that my heart already knows. It’s like a soundtrack to a very painful time in my life.
I still miss you Gabby. I see you in our daughter’s eyes, I touch your hair when I brush her hair, and I hear your I love you’s when she speaks to me.
    Again I miss you...forever

I know you commented this 10 years ago. But yes, that instantly became one of my favorite lines in any song.
It sounds like it should come across as cheesy but it captures such a deep truth about the little things we love in the people we love. Bittersweet.

Adam touches me in every song he writes. How lucky to have such a gifted person share his thoughts and experiences with us. The best thing is he feels it through his entire being when he sings, so depending upon his take on the song that day it changes with him.

Makes me wish that more people appreciated the subtle art that creating music is, the lyrics, the emotion, the way the melody has to harmonize with that emotion... the quality in a voice that sings with conviction, or the way a note played by someone feeling a song just hits you differently, almost a symphonic experience seeing them play live. Thank you for resonating with all of us....

I wouldn't be surprised if this song was about Gemma Hayes. For starters, she's from Ireland, to which there are obvious references (Dublin, Stevens Greens). It's also similar in nature to Hazy (Hayes-y) which they wrote together and Adam sang live in 2003... In that song Adam kept crying out -- "Could you tell me why you're leaving?" Interesting thing is, Gemma had just left their tour 2 days earlier. Guess where they were at that time? Yup... Amsterdam! The day was Tuesday, Feb 4 2003 :)

Feb. 4th..that date..seems to be a meeting and or ending date.strange as it is..this song will always hold deep memories for different reasons. it's haunting and beautiful..and at the same time alive with feeling and tones of sadness. that shows true brilliance.

Possibly one of the most poetic songs on the planet from modern music. The piano weeps in every stroke of its keys as the pain resonates in Adams voice! If there were just one song left on earth, I'd hope this was it! Thank you Adam for putting to music what I searched my life to just say! I just wish, she'd come back to me.

    Lyrics :
    A picture of Amsterdam
    Bare trees under glass
Framed in the gray and white afternoon light
    Of a winter long past
    When I was a raiser
    To Dublin I'd roam
    She was a bareback rider
    Some miles from home
    Come back to me
    She's a carnival diver
    Hung in the sky
Cutting through time like a memory
    Strung on a wire
    The color of anything
    Fades in the air
But she is the film of a book of the story
Of the smell of her hair
    Come back to me
    When every thing's over
    And every thing's clear
    When everyone's older
    And no one is here
    I try to remember
    A girl on a wire
Tumbling and diving above Stephen's Green
Like a kite on the air
    Come back to me

And in another live performance he said this song is written when a girl just left. Great to link al those bits :-)

Sorry about that, but I must say Adam's voice is a lot richer in nuances and more expressive in the later kind of songs/register. If he only wrote songs like that Shrek tune you mention, the band/man would be just ok, but not memorable..

    • @stevenlippis5488
      @stevenlippis5488 10 років тому +6

The sadder songs of his always grab me much more than any happy songs the crows do. We don't need someone with us when we feel happy, but when you're down, knowing you're not alone can help. That's what they've always done for me.

    • @BilisNegra
      @BilisNegra 10 років тому +1

I do agree. Even if I'm not whishing to imply people who like their uplifting side better have a lesser taste, what makes him and the band take a part in my life are songs like "Colorblind", as well as most of their first album. Could mention later songs like "Goodnight L.A.", and, well, many more along those lines. As a matter of fact, is only natural they get deeper, since Duritz has gone through psychologically though times during much of all these years. That's why the "happy" part was only a therapeutic trick, while the reflective side showed the true side, and hence, the gifted and heartfelt body of his/their work. Sorry for this all this bore, and maybe for my English, as a native Spanish speaker ;-)

In "Perfect Blue Buildings" he sings "4:30 am on a Tuesday, I don't get much worse than this"... Relatible? Maybe. I love the fact that his song share tidbits like this so we can try to link them together. It is part of what makes his song writing so brilliant to myself...

I don't know how many girls have fucked over Adam Duritz throughout the course of his life, but, i've gotta say, I hope they continue to, cos it seems to bring the best songs out of him. Raining in Baltimore, A Long December, I wish I was A Girl and now this, which is up there with all those. He seems like one of those guys who writes best when he's pining/pissed off/wronged. Fantastic song.

Ok, here's my point: on Mondays, my body and mind are getting adjusted to the regular routine of the week; plus where some people seem to see hopelessness, I see opportunities and even some optimism. Unfortunately, by (the end of, usually) Tuesday a lot of that "goes out the window" due to other people, mostly. I'm imagining that A. Duritz looks at the week in a similar fashion.
