I was there last week, we quickly made our way to Sensoji for prayers & went to the shotengai for lunch. It was crowded with tourists.
Ueno Park is so beautiful at night 🌙 loved all those shots you took, especially at the temple. Your meal looked pretty filling and yummy. Wow, what a pleasant New Year's surprise at the end of the video with your Japanese greeting! So brave of you because it's not your normal thing in the vlogs. If you feel more comfortable, you should speak more Japanese. I think it would be nice for those who are learning with the vocabulary you put in already. Thanks for the hard work. Gambatte!🎉
I like you speaking in Japanese although your speed is so high that I can only enjoy listening to the language rhythm, but it's nice anyhow. In replays I will pay more attention to this part. Very wise not to be in the line for Sanso-ji temple. It seems even more crowdy than last year. The vibrant atmoshere in all parts of Tokyo you visited, which is for sure appropriate for the New Year Day. The new year stsrted for you, dear Rion, with extremely hard work, including of course the Shibuya countdown, so that you deserve a proper rest after that.

Shinto Shrines have 'Torii' 鳥居 and Buddhist Temples have Gates 'Mon' 門 in the Entrance. The first one you see when entering says if its mainly Shinto or Buddhist. As Shinto and Buddhism are not contrary to each other, both can be found in a combination.

Generally, shrines have a torii gate at the entrance. Temples, on the other hand, usually have a large gate called a “sanmon” that leads to the main hall. Additionally, shrines often have a purification fountain outside the main hall, while temples may have a pagoda or other structures that are used for religious purposes.

In 2020 before pandemic I took that same exact path you walked from Ameyoko market through Ueno Park into akihabara...My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE part of the city of Tokyo. So many amazing memories...Thank You so much Rion! Happy New Years!!! I also will be praying and have prayed for the citizens of Japan to get through these tough times with what happened with the Earthquake, the plane explosion and the latest akihabara train stabbings....not a great start to the year but we support you!!!! Were here at Shinjuku now chilling, when earthquake struck last Jan 1, we were in Akihabara , one of the Toy Store in the 6F , it was a strong one and the longest ive experience hahahaha. Nways will be in Tokyo til Jan. 15 and hope to bump to you Rion this comings days.

How nice, I am planning my first trip to Japan. Our first day will be indeed be Ueno, Asakusa, Skytree and then Akihabara. So this was a very interesting video to watch.
I sure hope March will not be so croweded in the Senjo'ji.
I was at Zenkoji Temple directly below the Oni gate when the earthquake happened. The Oni both started rocking and my mouth was open. Luckily my guide and husband dragged me from under the gate. It was 5.0 and then after many aftershocks. Our train back to Tokyo was also suspended. Instead everyone at the Nagano Station rush in to try and take the non-reservation seats on the Asama from Nagano to Tokyo and despite taking train from 8.10pm we only reach our hotel at 12midnight. Overall scary experience.

I will have my 2nd trip to Japan next week and I will have my trip to nagano, not sure if the railway to nagano from kyoto has opened. I heard the shinkansen from kanazawa to nagano is closed.😢😢😢

At Asakura. I’m sure that all Japanese. Foreigners doesn’t know that Japanese New Year, you have to go to temple. Most country party on New Year not going to Temple like Japanese.
