  • Choosing a driving light can be a bit daunting, so we've compiled this video of real world driving footage to demonstrate and compare the performance and beam patterns of Xray Vision quartz halogen, 90W HID, and quad-optic LED driving lights.
    To make selecting lights easier, we've made suggestions on lighting technology based on where you do most of your driving:
    HID Driving Lights: Outback and Country Driving
    LED Driving Lights: Coastal and Hinterland Driving
    QH Driving Lights: All-round General Driving
    You can also check out our interactive driving light comparer on the Xray Vision website: xrayvision.net/products

    Best lighting demonstration on UA-cam... apart from the ridiculously long intro. I live in the hinterland on dark wyndy, bushy roads and run LED headlights, 2 x LED light bars - one on bull bar and one on the roof + 2 HID spotlights for distance, i only need the HID if I go on open roads, other wise they create too much of a hot spot and are annoying.

    It's those night time rainy days that the old stock headlights can't light up the road at all so would be nice to see this comparison under that condition not dry roads but dark wet.
    Nice vid. good job !

    Very informative and high production quality. One complaint: the intro is nearly a minute long for a 5 minute video, then it's 1:13 before the first word is spoken. That's a quarter of the entire video just for intro! The only reason I didn't skip this video after the first 15-20 seconds was the high production quality.

      Thanks for the feedback ... general consensus is that the intro is too long, which we'll take into account for future videos. Cheers!

      "General consensus" is too. It's redundant. "Consensus" will suffice. :)

    Super bright white lighting creates both reflective glare (see the roadsigns at 3:33) and is not comfortable for long hours driving. The human eye has spent millions of years best adapting to be most comfortable in sunlight, so those 'crappy old QH lights' that put out a warm 3500K are actually perfect. A great compromise is a set of QH spreads and HID spot(s) for the long range. I will never use LED if I can avoid it.

      It would have been good had they included the low beam difference. That's where you'll get into trouble with LED and HID systems, because they're not as tightly beamed and blind other drivers. I made some home worklights out of 48w (27w draw, har!) Chiwanese flood lights which cost $16 a pair, delivered. The $15 pair of spots I got for my truck are quite bright, too, but they're high-beam/offroad only.

    I was under the impression that HID lights should not be cycled on and off frequently as that shortens their life. Am I correct on this? if I am correct, then wouldn't having HID auxiliary lights be an issue if you need to frequently extinguish and relight them for oncoming vehicles? I drive on mountainous roads with long straightways, that are loaded with deer and other animals. sometimes I dip the lights for an oncoming vehicle, then re-light them, only to have another vehicle appear a few seconds later. Would this damage HId lights?

    • @XrayVisionNet
      @XrayVisionNet  7 років тому

      In the early days of HID technology, this was correct. However technology has advanced a long way since then ... to the point that this is no longer an issue with our premium range (we can't speak for cheap HID kits on eBay etc.). During the initial product development and testing phase we had a set of HIDs hooked up to an indicator/blinker relay (cycles on and off several times a second) and this ran for several months. The electronic soft start ballasts are largely responsible for this, not only reducing the spike of energy required to ignite the electrodes, but are also reliable in terms of build quality and heat management.

    you might be enjoying the vision from those bright bulbs but those bulbs are still brighter at the low beams which means your are shining your lights on the incoming traffic therefore an accident may result each time you are on the road at night and i wonder if you are proud of causing accidents!

    • @XrayVisionNet
      @XrayVisionNet  8 років тому +1

      Sounds like you're referring to HID inserts in the vehicle headlights ... whereas this video is demonstrating auxiliary driving lights which by law in Australia must we wired to only activate when high beam is switched on. As soon as the high beam is dipped to low beam, the additional lights-whether quartz, HID or LED-will automatically switch off.

    Assuming most of you had parents that tried to teach you manners, one thing they probably told you when you were growing up (if you've finished growing up) - If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. 9 times out of 10, the first commenters always go out of their way to throw down negative/critical comments that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. If you liked it, great, why don't you comment on those videos. If you didn't like it, move on, or go make your own video on the topic just the way you would expect the world to do it. Must be a real pleasure to be friends with people like you. ANNOYING !
    PS Thanks for the video.. intro and all.....

    HIDs are fucking annoying to everyone else on the road passing or oncoming. Only should be used for hi beams.

      almost all cars on the road have factory HID headlights as an add-on OEM option. It's time for you to get off the road.

    • @XrayVisionNet
      @XrayVisionNet  7 років тому +2

      The HIDs in the demo are in the driving lights, which by law in Australia must be wired to only ignite when the vehicle high beam is activated. They extinguish automatically when beams are dipped to low beam.

      usually jackasses in lifted trucks have aftermarket hid's. they like to sit so close at the red light that they cant see my back tires just to shine their head lights in my car. i usually just sit there with my gun on my lap after the light turns green just waiting to see what they do. never had one dumb enough to approach me yet. they usually honk a bunch then back up to go around me. that gives me the chance to follow them with my high beams on from too far back for them to brake check me. so far they run like pussies. figures....
