  • In the quiet town of Glenfield, Pennsylvania, there remains the original route of the Lincoln Highway which was the first transcontinental highway in America. Although most of the original route has been lost to time, this small section somehow survives. The bricks aren't that bad considering they're 102 years old. Still, the road is pretty rough by today's standards and there's no guarantee that they'll be around for another 102.

    Thanks for the tour down my grandparents' street! I'm a member of the Colorado section of the Lincoln Highway Association. Be sure to visit our old family farm on route 30 in Clinton, PA - it's now "Janoski's Farm and Greenhouse". They have a restored Lincoln Highway tourist cabin on site!

    Are the two lines in the road formerly what's left of streetcar tracks?

      No, just worn in tire marks. Glenfield is situated along what local streetcar buffs call the Sewickley Gap - a 6 mile connection thru Sewickley that was planned but never built between Pittsburgh Railways Co. and Beaver Valley Traction.

      I was wondering if they were streetcar tracks...but it looks like they are the shadow of the power lines!

    Route 462 runing through York Pa is also part of the original Lincoln highway before they built route 30.

    And all those houses were new construction when it was built. Must have been a nice looking neighborhood

    I have been on the Lincoln Highway in Wyoming. Lincoln way in Cheyenne is the old Lincoln Highway. It is near my grandmother's house. Her alley might have been part of the Lincoln Highway. You never know.

    How far are you traveling? In 1913 when the Lincoln Highway was established the speed limit in Pennsylvania was 25 m.p.h. You may be speeding?

    • @trolleytravels
      @trolleytravels  7 років тому +3

      Thomas Davidson This was only about a mile. This original section is still zoned at 25 mph. I was going about 20 mph during the video. I doubt you could speed without damaging your vehicle.

    How many local residents learned to drive on this famous Highway. I know of three for sure. My self, my daughter Lacey and my son Derek Sye. I would bet there are many more. Just a thought.

    Boring commentary. Historically cool though.

      All commentary is by it's nature very educational and so there for boring by default, it's there to teach you something not to be entertaning how ever some history is interesting enough to be entertaning if you can imagine it.
