Really nice overview of NAC technology, Understanding the Infrastructure and vendors being used in the environment is the baseline for any NAC project.

Thanks! Good intro for us business people. Could you please clarify what you mean by "you can have DDos attack on yourself kinds of outages? in Enforcement mode if done early?

+Manisha Verma early enforcement runs the risk of putting policies into place that will keep legitimate devices from connecting to the network... LOTS of legitimate devices! I've spoken with peers that experienced major outages when they flipped the switch on their NAC before they had done enough monitoring to make sure of the policies that needed to be in place to let the proper hosts on the network.

    Hello
    just a question
is there any difference between NAC as network control access and NAC as network admission control ?
i'm assuming that these are both the same but i'd like to here from someone more informed of this technology.
    thx in advance

      Hello Sidiki,
The two are the same. We often speak of Network Access Control in the industry, but Admission would be roughly the same as Access.

      thanks a million
i'm currently studying packetfence and i realize that one needs supported hardware (switch or AP controllers). ain't there any alternative you would just install and get it working regardless the switch or Access point.

No, the gear needs to support the features being used. Often vendors will make those features available with software versions that are more costly overall than base feature set versions.
