    Very instructive! On the 2nd intermediate puzzle I found the right move, but didn’t even realize the bishop would be hanging at the end too. Very cool 😎

    Hey Nelson, I’ve really been digging the videos-especially your ELO climb series. Great to hear you are feeling better. Possibly someone else has suggested this already, but after hearing you talk about the importance of the calf muscles, I was thinking a standing desk would be a great option for you. A desk that converts from sitting height to standing height would be the most versatile, but you could experiment with the idea just by setting up a temporary riser on your existing desk. Anyway, I hope to see you hit a million subs, so whatever gets you there is good. Take care! 🙌

    Love your videos. Always the MOST clear and helpful than all other chess videos I watch. Question: for the last puzzle in this video, what about Bg4 (doesn’t it achieve the same thing, but also forces the white Queen to move and also make it less likely for Black to get checkmated)? Or did I miss something obvious (wouldn’t be the first time 😅)

    Nelson I am good in puzzle and I have a good chess knowledge but when it comes to real game I didn't play well I miss many threats and there are many topics like hanging pieces, go forward and attack your opponent, many tactics and many more positional concepts, etc so how can we think of all of it in our every turn. Please tell.🙏🙏🙏🙏

    1:47 And after Qxa5, White's knight is no longer hanging (otherwise, Black could play Qxa4, and it's just a trade of pieces).
    6:28 When people ask me how far ahead I can see, I answer, "One move too few." I narrowed it down to two options but then chose the wrong one. (Also: I'm not so sure this is an "intermediate" puzzle, more of an advanced one. Removing the guard would be "intermediate" level, IMO.)
    8:56 I saw 2 of the 3 key moves but didn't put them together correctly.
    14:09 ... Nf6 doesn't work, either. (I spent too much time looking at that.)

  • @williamsquires3070
    @williamsquires3070 8 місяців тому

    (@12:23) White can simply play 1 Rhd1 here, gaining a powerful rook-rook-queen battery on the open d-file, and where is the bishop on d6 going to go? Well, there’s really only one choice (1 … Bf8 blocks the rook on g8 from helping out), so 1 … Be7 it is. 2 Qd7+ forcing a queen trade. This looks a little uncomfortable for black.

    In the last example what if white traded black bishops instead of taking knight with rook

  • @toastbrot97
    @toastbrot97 8 місяців тому

    My concern in the position at 10:13 was actually that black would capture Bxg4 first and after the recapture they have Nf6+ forking the king and rook resulting in just a trade of rooks after all. And if you try to capture the knight on e4 first then white is simply capturing the pawn on h5 for free. What am i missing?
    Also at 12:56 it's important to note that the capture on e4 only works because white doesn't have the time to simply trade the bishop off with Bxe7. If they do that, you can play Nd2 forking the bishop and the queen giving you an extra tempo and guaranteeing you to get one extra piece for the knight before recaptureing on e7.

      Bxe6, attacking the queen. It also blocks the attack on White's (remaining) bishop. Once White recaptures, Black can retreat the rook, and (as Nelson says) the game goes on.

      @@deinemutter7397 You'll have to ask him.
      I once read that moderately good players simply don't see illegal moves (bishops hopping like knights, etc), and that grandmasters don't see bad moves. Maybe that's why he's only a NM?
      I suspect he's not focused 100% on the games when he's playing, and he'll occasionally see some bad ones.
