Many other ppl have mentioned this but I wanted to add a bit. Tsunade has a fear of blood, but it’s not something random, she developed her fear of blood because of her traumatic experience with her partner dying in front of her. Notice the amount of blood in the scene where she tries to keep him alive. So when Kabuto cuts his hand and splashes his blood on Tsunade, she’s paralyzed by her traumatic stress response, which is why he wins. Only when Tsunade is able to find new hope in Naruto, instead of living in the past with her late brother and partner, she’s able to overcome her fear. Leaving her past behind means leaving her trauma too, and her trauma was what was weakening her.
Thats definitely still a poorly written excuse to make it so tsunade doesnt defeat Kabuto and Orochimaru by herself. She got done so dirty in this. And the fact that this was her only traditional fight in the series until the war arc (and she still lost in that one) is unforgivable. Yeah we're told her strength but they should have shown it in a fight

I think not everyone can focus and multitask like that (very hard for me, I'd sometimes miss other dialogue while talking), it's a good skill to have as a reactor though and makes the viewer experience better I agree. Not only that, Raiju can do it while making very insightful commentary. He's a very skilled reactor I would say.
Funny part is he wanted to be 4th Hokage and was mad when he wasn't chosen, that's implied to be what started his grudge whether he wants to admit it or not.
11:48 For sure. Kishimoto, the author of this series, has gone on record saying he isn’t great at writing women; which is why so many female characters end up boy-crazy or one-note. I’d say despite that he did a banger job with Tsunade, though. Tenten and Temari are also like, normal human beings and don’t base their entire characters around their crush, so I guess there’s that, but they’re minor characters. Hinata’s also shy and into Naruto, but her crush is more endearing than clingy, and we see her devote herself to personal growth for reasons beyond something as shallow as getting with a cute guy. Naruto inspires her, but he isn’t her goal. But I have to give credit for 57:15 to give reason for Sakura and Ino to be the way they are to help Shikamaru grow. It’s not like people like those two don’t exist.
Jiraya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru are actually plucked right from japanese folklore (as far as i know) as masters of toad, slug, and snake magic respectively. So, that's at least one reason their summoned animals aren't things like lions :)

One of my favorite most underrated silly lines in all of naruto comes from Kabuto when he says “Dreams don’t come true and you’re dead” 😂😂 Later on I think in shippuden they flash back to the exact moment but his line is completely different but I noticed lol

If you don't care for the 1st naruto movie after checking it out, I highly recommend the 3rd one, even if you skip the 2nd one. The third one is really unique in my opinion, and it has a great cast. It's called Crescent Moon Island or something iirc. The animation is insane.

As a medical nin, ninjutsu wastes too much chakra using attacks that might not even land. Using taijutsu and her crazy strength, she expends chakra mainly when her attacks land and reserves it for medical ninjutsu
Rock Lee and Guy are some of the best characters in the entire show. I definitely had the same reaction where whenever they got on screen I'd just really feel the scene more, they are just the most inspiring duo, always giving it their all to achiever their dreams. Having seen the horror movie Slither around the time this came out, Katsuyu breaking down into a million smaller slugs traumatized me the first time lol. But it's only gross because we associate slugs with being gross I suppose.

I'm glad you liked Tsunade! She is one of my favorite characters in the shown, and easily my favorite among the women. Not only is she so well developed as a character, she is badass as well. Now I'll answer a few questions you had. "What does destroying the Leaf have to do with immortality?" Orochimaru simply has a grudge against the Leaf, he doesn't want to destroy it for his immortality plan or anything. I believe they mentioned it back in the Chunin Exams arc, but the reason he is suspected of having a grudge against the Leaf potentially has to do with how ironically at one point Orochimaru DID want to be 4th Hokage. However, the 3rd Hokage (his sensei) chose someone else because he sensed evil in Orochimaru's heart. This likely felt insulting to Orochimaru, like his talents were being overlooked. In addition the grudge is likely even more personal now, because in taking his arms the 3rd Hokage caused him tons of pain and inconvenience. In revenge he surely wants to destroy what the 3rd found most precious to him, the village. Hope that makes sense, Orochimaru just has some twisted irrational grudge vs the Leaf basically. "How is the title of Sannin given?". Good question. There are only 3 Sannin, and they are the 3 students of the 3rd Hokage. Sannin literally translated to "three ninja". It's not really an official title or rank, but more of a term the ninja world uses to refer to those 3 because of how powerful they are and how much they have influenced ninja history (through accomplishments in war, mainly). All 3 are more than strong enough to be a Kage, they're extremely impressive and world famous. Even in the flashbacks where you saw Tsunade was younger they had already made a name for themselves in some of the shinobi world wars and as we saw were already called the Sannin back then. "How can Kabuto beat Sannin level opponents?". So let me first say, normally he cannot beat a Sannin or Tsunade for that matter. He is not on their level, not even close. As other characters have hinted at, he is very strong though and is more or less in Kakashi's league. That alone is still extremely impressive, because Kakashi (while not being Sannin level) is extremely strong. Kakashi is strong enough to be qualified for the Hokage position if need be, even if he is not on the level of some of the strongest characters in the series. So why did Kabuto beat Tsunade then? First off, it seems you may have missed that Tsunade had a fear of blood (or maybe you knew and said it edited out). She gained that fear when she was traumatized by Dan's death, if you recall her hands were covered in his blood. That's the primary reason Kabuto was able to win, he sprayed his own blood all over her which sent her into a state of shock essentially and she was no longer able to fight back because she had a PTSD attack essentially. Before that Tsunade had the upper hand and would have destroyed him. Worse case scenario Kabuto would have forced her to use the Mitotic Regeneration jutsu she used to heal those impalement wounds Orochimaru gave her and that would heal any damage Kabuto did to her, he would have been f*cked. Don't listen to anyone that tells you Kabuto is Sannin level, he is not. He took advantage of her fear of blood. Also, the only reason he was able to keep up with her in Taijutsu was likely because she was both rusty and just mentally weaker at that time. After she got over her fear of blood and starting beating the tar out of Orochimaru I think it's plain to see that her overall movements became faster, stronger, and sharper. Her mental state in general likely gave Kabuto an advantage. Not to say Kabuto is weak, he is extremely strong and is kage level like Kakashi. Tsuande and the Sannin put him to shame though, he is not on their level. "Is Tsunade stronger than the other Sannin" Probably not, I think most would say Jiraiya and Orochimaru are about 1 tier above her in overall power despite Tsuande being one of the strongest ninja alive. They would never beat Tsunande in hand to hand combat though, they'd get clobbered l;like Orochimarui did since that's her specialty. She focused chakra in her fists or other body parts to explosively amplify the power of her taijutsu strikes, it's actually similar to medical ninjutsu and involves tons of complex chakra control which is why only she can use it on that level. She also just has monstrous physical strength on top of that, no one really compares to her in that regard. Those 2 have the edge in the ninjutsu department is all. It just seemed like Tsuande was stronger to you because Jiraiya and Orochimaru are super nerfed here. Orochimaru lost all ninjutsu with no arms, and Jiraiya is probably even worse off with how heavily drugged he is. HOWEVER, the difference in power is not that big. They would probably beat her in a fight 1 vs 1, but it would be a very difficult fight for them and they would likely take some considerable damage in the process. Tsunade is not to be trifled with, she's the real deal and very OP especially with her automatic self-healing jutsu which is her trump card.

Tsunade had a crippling fear of blood, traumatized by her past with her loved ones dying around her. I’m fairly sure that’s the weakness that a Orochimaru told Kabuto. She only was able to get over it because of Naruto.

Funny thing when Orochimaru said that thing "Only fools would want to be Hokage", he wanted to be the Hokage at one point and when he wasn't chosen he left the village crying like a bitch and then wanted to destroy it out of spite 🙂 I like how Shikamaru is made into this kids with somewhat flawed values about girls, it shows that very high IQ doesn't come with wisdom.. wisdom is somehing that comes with life experience and he still has a lot of growing up to do Guy and Rock have the best relationship, like full honesty and openess So almost halfway through Naruto, I am looking forward to Shippuden already, but gr8 reactions 🙂

Man, I had forgotten just how amazing this show is. It’s always been in my top 5 but over the years it became so mainstream I kinda moved away from it. After rewatching these with Raiju (which masterful editing my guy, you manage to get more of the show in higher quality than any other react content creator I’ve seen so far) I have been able to re-experience the magic this anime always had. It’s #2 favorite for sure!

27:47 So a note here, this scene gets a little bit lost in translation Orochimaru says ninja are called that because of ninjutsu. This part is fine. But Jiraiya responds that a SHINOBI (which is the original term where the ninja name came from) is one who endures. He makes a similar "wordplay" that Orochimaru does, but that gets lost in transation. because Shinobi in Japanese is 「忍び」 The kanji 「忍」 is also one used for "enduring" (and spy, sneak and other stuff) (in case you are wondering び is just "bi" in the japanese script)
Honestly the first episode is my primary reason i choose Sub over Dub the Dub softens the show up a lot like the Japanese version of that seen is so much better when you hear Jiraiya's usual goofy carefree tone drop into the voice of a cold-blooded killer is jarring

2 things which probably were missing in understanding of Tsunade arc (and which I didn't notice in comments): 1. She has to spend a bunch of her chakra to preserve a young appearance (sort of adds to why she fought like that). Even though it's a minor justification :P 2. When Tsunade lost control of her young appearance she became so old because of what Shizune said before. When Tsunade breaks the seal she regenerates herself and loses years of life by doing so. Meaning she already used that technic several times before which led her original appearance to be much older than her actual age.
49:30 - oddly Kishimoto didnt state until Naruto Shippuden that Chakra comes in different elements, based from person to person. Orochimaru is obviously Earth, while Kabuto must have a different element within him, hence why he could sink away. in any case it's exceedingly difficult to use Jutsu outside of your gifted element.

Kishimoto drew a lot from shinto myth, even amaterasu, tsukoyomi, and susano are taken from shinto.
How Kabuto figured out how to move his nervous system in the manner of seconds, is still one of the sickest things in the series!

Having seen the horror movie Slither around the time this came out, Katsuyu breaking down into a million smaller slugs traumatized me the first time lol. But it's only gross because we associate slugs with being gross I suppose.
I've watched quite a bit of people reacting to anime before, but you are definitely the best, we can clearly see your genuine emotions while watching the anime. It feels like we're watching it with a friend, keep it up man, there's so much more in this anime that you're gonna love, and I'll definitely be here watching along!
I'm glad you liked Tsunade! She is one of my favorite characters in the shown, and easily my favorite among the women. Not only is she so well developed as a character, she is badass as well. Now I'll answer a few questions you had.
"What does destroying the Leaf have to do with immortality?" Orochimaru simply has a grudge against the Leaf, he doesn't want to destroy it for his immortality plan or anything. I believe they mentioned it back in the Chunin Exams arc, but the reason he is suspected of having a grudge against the Leaf potentially has to do with how ironically at one point Orochimaru DID want to be 4th Hokage. However, the 3rd Hokage (his sensei) chose someone else because he sensed evil in Orochimaru's heart. This likely felt insulting to Orochimaru, like his talents were being overlooked. In addition the grudge is likely even more personal now, because in taking his arms the 3rd Hokage caused him tons of pain and inconvenience. In revenge he surely wants to destroy what the 3rd found most precious to him, the village. Hope that makes sense, Orochimaru just has some twisted irrational grudge vs the Leaf basically.
"How is the title of Sannin given?". Good question. There are only 3 Sannin, and they are the 3 students of the 3rd Hokage. Sannin literally translated to "three ninja". It's not really an official title or rank, but more of a term the ninja world uses to refer to those 3 because of how powerful they are and how much they have influenced ninja history (through accomplishments in war, mainly). All 3 are more than strong enough to be a Kage, they're extremely impressive and world famous. Even in the flashbacks where you saw Tsunade was younger they had already made a name for themselves in some of the shinobi world wars and as we saw were already called the Sannin back then.
"How can Kabuto beat Sannin level opponents?". So let me first say, normally he cannot beat a Sannin or Tsunade for that matter. He is not on their level, not even close. As other characters have hinted at, he is very strong though and is more or less in Kakashi's league. That alone is still extremely impressive, because Kakashi (while not being Sannin level) is extremely strong. Kakashi is strong enough to be qualified for the Hokage position if need be, even if he is not on the level of some of the strongest characters in the series. So why did Kabuto beat Tsunade then? First off, it seems you may have missed that Tsunade had a fear of blood (or maybe you knew and said it edited out). She gained that fear when she was traumatized by Dan's death, if you recall her hands were covered in his blood. That's the primary reason Kabuto was able to win, he sprayed his own blood all over her which sent her into a state of shock essentially and she was no longer able to fight back because she had a PTSD attack essentially. Before that Tsunade had the upper hand and would have destroyed him. Worse case scenario Kabuto would have forced her to use the Mitotic Regeneration jutsu she used to heal those impalement wounds Orochimaru gave her and that would heal any damage Kabuto did to her, he would have been f*cked. Don't listen to anyone that tells you Kabuto is Sannin level, he is not. He took advantage of her fear of blood. Also, the only reason he was able to keep up with her in Taijutsu was likely because she was both rusty and just mentally weaker at that time. After she got over her fear of blood and starting beating the tar out of Orochimaru I think it's plain to see that her overall movements became faster, stronger, and sharper. Her mental state in general likely gave Kabuto an advantage. Not to say Kabuto is weak, he is extremely strong and is kage level like Kakashi. Tsuande and the Sannin put him to shame though, he is not on their level.
"Is Tsunade stronger than the other Sannin" Probably not, I think most would say Jiraiya and Orochimaru are about 1 tier above her in overall power despite Tsuande being one of the strongest ninja alive. They would never beat Tsunande in hand to hand combat though, they'd get clobbered l;like Orochimarui did since that's her specialty. She focused chakra in her fists or other body parts to explosively amplify the power of her taijutsu strikes, it's actually similar to medical ninjutsu and involves tons of complex chakra control which is why only she can use it on that level. She also just has monstrous physical strength on top of that, no one really compares to her in that regard. Those 2 have the edge in the ninjutsu department is all. It just seemed like Tsuande was stronger to you because Jiraiya and Orochimaru are super nerfed here. Orochimaru lost all ninjutsu with no arms, and Jiraiya is probably even worse off with how heavily drugged he is. HOWEVER, the difference in power is not that big. They would probably beat her in a fight 1 vs 1, but it would be a very difficult fight for them and they would likely take some considerable damage in the process. Tsunade is not to be trifled with, she's the real deal and very OP especially with her automatic self-healing jutsu which is her trump card.

Others have said it as well, but I’m figuring that you’ll be more likely to see with more comments. Tsunade had a crippling fear of blood, traumatized by her past with her loved ones dying around her. I’m fairly sure that’s the weakness that a Orochimaru told Kabuto. She only was able to get over it because of Naruto.

Orochimaru says ninja are called that because of ninjutsu. This part is fine.
But Jiraiya responds that a SHINOBI (which is the original term where the ninja name came from) is one who endures.
He makes a similar "wordplay" that Orochimaru does, but that gets lost in transation. because Shinobi in Japanese is 「忍び」
The kanji 「忍」 is also one used for "enduring" (and spy, sneak and other stuff)
(in case you are wondering び is just "bi" in the japanese script)

42:15 - Gamabunta's got a Walking Stick, that houses a Wakazashi Sword, a Wakazashi is basically a short sword, light enough to be used one-handed. in history Wakazashi killed many Samurai even though the blade is shorter than a Katana.
Since I picked Naruto up as a kid, I've always been heavily biased towards the sub. But man, I really do have a soft spot for Guy's english VA, he's just so goddamn good!
47:15 - pretty much, she uses her Chakra to turn back the clock on her physiology, now that it is waining, she's literally starting to feel her age.
42:39 The frog, the snake and the slug are a Japanese version of Rock paper scissors. Also Jiraya, Orochimaru and Tsunade were inspired by the Tale of Gallant Jiraya, in which Jiraya and Tsunade use toad and slug magic respectively, against Orochimaru, the son of a serpent.

2 things which probably were missing in understanding of Tsunade arc (and which I didn't notice in comments):
1. She has to spend a bunch of her chakra to preserve a young appearance (sort of adds to why she fought like that). Even though it's a minor justification :P
2. When Tsunade lost control of her young appearance she became so old because of what Shizune said before. When Tsunade breaks the seal she regenerates herself and loses years of life by doing so. Meaning she already used that technic several times before which led her original appearance to be much older than her actual age.

49:30 - oddly Kishimoto didnt state until Naruto Shippuden that Chakra comes in different elements, based from person to person. Orochimaru is obviously Earth, while Kabuto must have a different element within him, hence why he could sink away. in any case it's exceedingly difficult to use Jutsu outside of your gifted element.

4:30 - all 3 of the Legendary Sanin survived several wars between Villages, facing many highly skilled Shinobi, so because of that they were given a title unheard of, to discern them above that of the usual Jonin.
