Thank you for the fantastic video - Why are VBGs not good in patients who are hypotensive? - Is it because the venous blood has more contact with the tissues of the body and thus has an increased amount of CO2 dissolved in it when compared to arterial blood? And if so, is this difference significant enough to contraindicate its use?

Thanks for reaching out and sorry for the late response! there is a debate how reliable VBG as an alternative to ABG in those unstable patients, given that uncertainty it's better to use ABG to make your clinical decisions in such unstable patients.

if sp02 is 99% any reason to ever get an abg over vbg

There’s no reason to get either with that Spo2. But ABG is the test to go for to assess for oxygen in the blood not VBG. VBG not reliable for that.
