I love these type of videos! Most gurus on here just follow and do the same videos but to come across videos like this that actually teach and help are beyond refreshing! It's a great time to buy a new powder with the VIB sale going on and you've talked me into trying finally the hourglass powders! Thank you so much!!!

Actually the milani powder is great on deep skin! Works great if you know what your doing you're left with a flawless glowing finish no white cast.

The RCMA Over-Powder is a good buffing powder also. I have the shade Warm Gold for my complexion, but there is also a pink shade for cooler skin tones. It's not as shimmery as the mac gold (which I use as highlight) but it's also not as flat as my setting powders. For a while I didn't know what to do with it... but then I saw the same Goss video about this technique and then I understood the purpose of this powder and have loved it since. It literally is as the name states an OVER-POWDER. It smoothes everything out.. and like you said, it will tone down the highlighter too, so I put my highlighter on after I buff cause I have to have my glow haha.

    Aww 😍.
You're my boo thang. Everyone should know, that, in person you absolutely look filtered, non-cakey and radiant- what they see in your video's is real.
P.S. that Milani loose powder in radiant can get to "Tinman" status real quick if you load your brush up- it's pink/slightly peach on my NW20/ JM RG 30.
    CONGRATULATIONS on 45K!!

Hi Mel! Thank you for pointing out the powders can be used for mature skin. I follow most of your guidance on makeup brands and usage, knowing full well that I am a good 30 years your senior. I do not have typical aging skin. I was always good to my skin, ate well, got lots of rest and protected it from the sun as much as someone could when I was in my youth. So many of the techniques you use, I can also. But I do have places on my skin that are looser and of course the more "crepey" eye lid skin. With care of application, I can still have a nice look. However with the powers, especially the highlighting powders, they do accentuate more loose skin than I even realized I had. I had not bought Hourglass powders, because I was using what I had and using a damp beauty blender to apply them. So now that I know, I can purchase some Hourglass powders knowing that they are more easily used for aging skin and those unique problems. Thank you for mentioning that tid bit of information. I enjoyed the whole video, AND walked away with yet another great tip from you! Love you Mel! Thanx for sharing! XOXOX

Diana, I am 53, and I love This technique. It does not make me look powdery or older, if anything, better! I don't use my Hourglass powders down the center of myvface, I use a non shiny powder instead, but I LOVE Hourglass powders. They are amazing!!!!!

I saw this on Wayne's channel as well, but did NOT want to add more powder. After watching you do this, it clicked and have been doing this religiously ever since I have followed you, about 4 months now! And my makeup has never looked or FELT better!! I use the Hourglass Trio as well or Cover FX Illuminating Setting around the perimeter then on the center of my face I use.. By Terry Hylauronic, Cover fx translucent, Dermablend Loose, or Charlotte Tilbury airbrush compact in 2. I WILL be taking a few of your suggestions as well! Look how many powders I have - so I did try to buff, just didn't know how until you! Thanks Mel- you are terrific. Lisa

I started using this technique when I saw Wayne Goss explain it. But you’ve explained it so well and I love that you’ve given so many in depth suggestions for powders.
Another drugstore powder I love is nyx #nofilter.Very very similar to the Laura mercies candleglow imo. I have both. I also enjoy Laura geller filter finish powder for bidding around the perimeter (can get very glowy).

Hi, mel! I hope you see this. I discovered your channel a month ago (I hope I'd known it before) and I fell in love with it. I've watched half of your videos by now lol. I loved this video and would love if you'd do a powder technique guide, not only to buff. I'd like an expert and honest opinion. You talk about foundation, then foundation powder, setting powder, bronze, blush, etc... I'd like to hear your recommendations and application technique (order and what not). Thanks, and keep doing an amazing job!

You are STUNNING! I’ve seen Wayne’s video on it, but it didn’t really click with me. I have dry skin, so every time I have tried it, it made my skin look or feel Casey, or my foundation would separate. I was probably doing it wrong. I’ll have to try your way with a radiant powder😘✨

OMG 😯!!! So, I tried this buffing technique yesterday after watching this video, and BAAABY my makeup looked amazing! I always thought I was ok at blending my blush in, but putting finishing powder over it definitely makes it look way more blended in and natural. Why did I never think to try this before? It seems so obvious to me now, lol, that this is what finishing powder should do for your makeup! Thank you a million times for this advice!!! 😘

I saw the same video he did go to a class taught by Sonia and Fyza Ali their Instagram is @soniaxfyza Fyza the older sister is a makeup artist and when they stared out Sonia was her muse. Wayne said in the video he could not believe how smooth and perfect the skin would look when they were done with the makeup because of how much product they used and the buffing was the key.I have been doing it with Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless Finish Micro Powder since I saw his video but I also researched Sonia and Fyza and they are beautiful and extremely talented. It was their technique that he was amazed by and so excited about that he created a video on it as soon as he got back.He uses the Charlotte Tilbury Powder in the video I saw and it doesn't add any coverage. Its the type of powder that layers pretty seamlessly and doesn't get cakey easily.I use the Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush F105 and I find it perfect for this technique.

I use this technique every day too. It really does help diffuse everything. I use one of the Hourglass finishing powders and I love how it seamlessly blends everything together without moving my makeup. I tend to have a heavy hand with blush so it saves my ass from walking out looking like a clown.

Does it matter what kind of brush you use?? Face brush: fluffy or more dense?? Or doesn’t it matter as long as you don’t move your makeup straight of your face??

The becca powder is available at Sephora in a different shade called “pink haze” It’s the one I use to buff because I am so light and don’t want to darken my foundation!

I started doing the buffing technique thanks to you and watching your videos! It is a game changer. I use a Marc Jacobs Bronze brush, which is large and round and has worked for me. I haven't seen the La Mer brush here. I'm naturally radiant (oily) so I use MAC's loose blot powder followed by a spray of Fix+. I also use MAC's beauty powders if I want a more radiant finish.

I watched the recent Tati video where Scott Barnes is giving her 'The JLo glow'. He went along the jawline where her contour/bronzer was, and buffed it out with an illuminating powder, to make it seamless and remove any harsh lines.

For someone with more mature skin: that Laura Mercier powder is perfect!!! I just started using it since the beginning of the year and I am sad that I had not discovered it before. I like it even more than the hourglass.

Just as a side note that Becca powder comes in 2 shades... one that’s a yellowish-shade (the original shade) and also a pink shade called pink haze... I have a very cool undertone and I have the pink haze shade that I use for buffing and absolutely love it!

I do this technique sometimes, but I didn't know it was called buffing or that it was even a “technique” lol. I appreciate this video bc now I know how to do it properly. I haven’t been buffing over my blush, but I’m going to do that now bc it is a noticeable difference!

Thank you so much for this, Mel! I actually have. A few of these powders, so I’m definitely going to do this! I feel like I’m pretty decent at makeup (at least my friends/family say so), but I feel like I need these few extra things to make my look more perfected. I swear, if I’m ever in Nashville, I’m going to come have you do my makeup and give me a lesson or two. You’re always flawless! 💕💕

Awesome video. I was just thinking the other day “I’m so confused with why you use several powders and what does each one do” whilst watching a few of your videos ... I think mainly the sweat proof makeup ones... these “teaching” videos are great please do more technique videos! ♥️

K, so I watched the Wayne video but somehow thought the last thing I needed was more powder on my maturing skin. The way you explained & demonstrated was like, "duh, I am already doing this!" I didn't call it buffing, just fixing & pulling my makeup together @ the end, & I have certain powders I only use 4 the last step, & I don't put any more on in certain places. Thanks! It has a name! ;) I am definitely going to try the hourglass.

I love to do the buffing technique with the Wayne Goss Airbrush and the Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless Finish micro powder. Like you said, it totally diffuses the edges of your blush/bronzer/ contour. I also like the Too Faced sweet peach pressed smoothing finishing powder, it gives a very subtle diffused finish as well.

Love love love your videos! Great info and techniques.... I’m going to try this out. I think I was doing it wrong before and my brush was moving the other products around. I think I need to full set it with powder and then go in with this technique and hopefully it won’t move the product around! Thanks so much!

I tend to use matte powders to set but I have used the MAC MSF Natural to buff after I'm done with my entire face but one a tiny bit. Then I'll set with my setting spray. I've seen people use the MSF Natural to set but I don't think my makeup holds up well when I do that. I use the Hourglass Dim Light as a subtle highlight and I want to get the radiant light as its what I originally intended to buy...my face looks flawless whenever I use it!
