I get your point, but it's not totally true...Ma Long refined his style through the years and he's also capable of making elegant moves. Not like Walker who was elegant by simply breathing, but Ma Long didn't get where he is now only by being a colorless machine of padding the ball back to the table

In fact, the same innate talent can be seen in the style of many, perhaps less lime-lighted young players of these days. So, it's not something is not taught to today's youth, because it was NOT what he was taught, either. We can't expect the youth to play this style, simply because it takes A; decades of practice to develop this touch, and B; also decades to calm down and come back from the fun of standing away from the table in topspin-to-topspin rallies, and enjoy the world of the all-round play. For reference, watch Ma Lin 20 years ago and today (another retired warrior)

Unless you have the raw power of MA Long I would strongly recommend you study the greatest genius of all time,then and only then will you begin to understand the MASTER. New players just starting table tennis will never know how much faster this game was when the ball was smaller than 40+mm....
I prefererd playing with smaller balls actually it matched my play style more
