  • First Impressions of the 2020 version of the Montane Prism Gloves. Originally filmed in early January 2021.
A great compact and lightweight glove. Fantastic warmth factor, with pertex outer making them water resistant (not waterproof).
Minor flaw reported to Montane and gloves have since been returned. Will update in due course.
    Filmed on: Canon EOS M50 - FHD - 24fps

Thanx for the honest review. I wanted some gloves for hiking next week. I will be checking those touchscreen pads carefully before buying them in Go Outdoors. Take care

Hello Mads! I have been looking at these gloves, so super happy to find your video. Eco friendly too, bonus. Great video as always Mads, really appreciated the pros and cons list. Jeeze at the wear and tear, think I'll stick with the Sealskinz. Thank you.. Hope you are well, all the very best, Ceri and Kat

Cheers guys! Thanks for taking the time to watch. It's a great shame they didn't live up to the hype. The glove as a whole I think is still pretty darn good. Let's see what Montane come back with?! Stay Rad. MADS

I hope that either Montane or the retailer are able to offer you something adequate. It's not as if you've been scrambling up Tryfan in them. I'd be disappointed with that as well. Although a lot of people seem to be buying them at the moment.
Thanks for sharing your honest thought, Mads. All the best.

I asked Montane for a suggested alternative to their Guide gloves as they had leather and I'm vegan. They suggested these, although they did say they wouldn't be as sturdy. Glad I watched this video before purchasing as that quality is shocking (and I usually love Montane gear)

They cost £60 now, in Cotswold Outdoors (Feb 1 2023). Pity they are not waterproof.

Great review boss. I’ve been looking for a new set of gloves for the wife on dog walks. She gets very cold hands. I don’t think these will be up for daily use.

For the price, probably not. You'll want some leather type palm grips

Cheers James. I want to keep things as honest as possible. Don't get me wrong I really like these gloves - especially the weight. Just a big ol' shame on the design flaw. I'd be interested to hear if you get any other problems. Stay Rad. MADS

The big test for any glove is taking it on and off in the rain, does the inside come out with damp hands? Can you get the wet hands back in? I think you are always going to have issues with the touch screen pads. I have a pair of modern gloves, but always fall back to my wool gloves or ancient shooting gloves with removable finger. that said I like the fact they are lightweight and pack so small.

      Hello Si,
If you don't mind me jumping in; I was taught to wear liner gloves a few years ago and, from my own experiences, they make it much easier to get larger gloves on and off in wet weather.

    • @rialobran
      @rialobran 3 роки тому +1

@@WalksWithOlly I have no objection to you jumping in Olly :) We'd have less conflict in the world if more people discussed things. The liner gloves are certainly an option, but not for me, my hands get warm enough and claustrophobic enough in gloves as is.

    • @Mads76

Hey Si, never gave the wet glove thing any thoughts to be honest. I'll have to see if I get these back from Montane to give it a shot. I do love my lightweight gear though but know that sometimes you can't compromise on bits. MADS

I have these gloves and when wet are almost impossible to get my fingers back into the gloves properly.. to the point where I have given up and just balled my hands into fists and squeezed them into the palm of the gloves instead. Soon followed by slipping and breaking my wrist.. haha

Any gloves made from materials like this are just going to wear out unless you wear a tougher outer glove over them, just like liner gloves will. It's just a fact of life, and I've come to regard items like this as 'sacrificial' unless protected from wear, which is why I've stopped buying them. A beefy liner glove, usable by itself without a protective over layer, will last potentially years, rather than weeks. Gloves and 'delicate' means frequent replacement, there's just no way around that.

The worst thing with these kind of gloves is trying to put cold wet / sweaty hands back in after you have took them off . I just have a pair of cheap Karrimor light thermal gloves and an X/l pair of cheap water resistant gloves from mountain warehouse . I might look like I have big deformed hands when I have them all but I don’t care . Cheaper option and does the trick completely. Too many people being fooled by these gimmicks nowadays in outdoor clothing. . Personally I blame the women fashion brigade on the hill . I get a laugh when I walk into these outdoor shops are women are parading around in all this tripe overpriced alledged fashionable mountain gear . I laugh even more at men as some off them can be just as bad . Just a money making gimmick. I’ve wandered over many a hill and mountain in all weathers with the basic gear and never been let down once . I might look like a tramp but I don’t give a hoot because I’m not giving my hard end cash to vultures for overpriced gear that’s made for a pittance in a sweat shop in Taiwan or somewhere like that. Experience tells me what I need to take and it’s not a fancy fancy looking 60 pound fleece when I can get a nice Peter storm one for 10 squid .
