May 17th is the Norwegian equivalent of Independence Day. On that date in 1814 (199 years ago today), the Norwegian constitution was finalized. This marked the end of a Union with Denmark that had lasted for hundreds of years. Today also marked the 100th anniversary of the day women in Norway gained the right to vote.
The gargantuan May 17th children's' parade in Oslo is known wide and farfor being a spectacular sight, but every town, in Norway; no matter how small, has a children's parade on May 17th. My own children live in a very small farming community, and this what their parade looked like this year.
