जीवनी इनका जन्म 18 अगस्त 1900 को गांधी-नेहरू परिवार में हुआ था। उनकी शिक्षा-दीक्षा मुख्य रूप से घर में ही हुई। 1921 में उन्होंने काठियावाड़ के सुप्रसिद्ध वकील रणजीत सीताराम पण्डित से विवाह कर लिया।[1] गांधीजी से प्रभावित होकर उन्होंने भी आज़ादी के लिए आंदोलनों में भाग लेना आरम्भ कर दिया।[2] वह हर आन्दोलन में आगे रहतीं, जेल जातीं, रिहा होतीं और फिर आन्दोलन में जुट जातीं। उनके पति को भारत की स्वतंत्रता के लिए किये जा रहे आन्दोलनों का समर्थन करने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार करके लखनऊ की जेल में डाला गया जहाँ उनका निधन हो गया। वो भारत के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री जवाहर लाल नेहरू की बहन थी जिनकी पुत्री इन्दिरा गांधी लगभग 13 वर्षों तक भारत की प्रधानमंत्री रहीं।[
