Ireland are a phenomenal rugby team. The correlation between clubs and country is really benefiting the national team. Andy Farrell and his coaches have done a brilliant job with this squad, rebuilding post Joe Smidt. As an Englishman, it’s great to be neutral and watch Ireland, France, South Africa and New Zealand. For me it’s a shootout between Ireland and France, but the other two could have a serious say.
The other two will Definitely have a say! There’s six World Titles between them, and Ireland have never made it out of the quarterfinals. At least France have made 3 finals.
As a Scotland fan I’m absolutely gutted but not surprised. Ireland are No. 1 for a reason and they showed that tonight. So clinical and their defence is ridiculous… fair play. Scotland’s refusal to take the 3 points frustrates me and I do think it comes from a place of naivety. Our style of rugby is very exiting to watch when we’re up against a weaker opposition but it simply doesn’t cut it with the best. Hard pill to swallow.
That's a great assement pal.from an Irish fan .I've absolutely no doubt scotald are on the right track...Ireland 10 -15 years ago lost to the best teams .keep the faith .from an Irish fan...
Scotland were outplayed in every aspect of Defense and Attack! This Ireland have got the measure of us, and have had so since 2019! We were all screaming "take the 3!" at the TV! Ireland were excellent! Soaked up everything we threw at them, with consumate ease! And their game management was superb!
Not to rub it in, but Ireland have been a bogey team for Scotland for must be like 2:decades now, though especially the past decade. Not quite at the level that France were our (Ireland's bogey team) for almost 30 years, but similarish.
Scotland started 8 points behind. The first Irish try meant they were effectively 13-0 down. That's why they turned down the 3 pointers! Ultimately Ireland annihilated them all over the park and the game was over at half-time. The wholesale changes by Farrell in the second half was another psychological blow for Scotland. It said: we have control of this game and we're not letting go. Irish players (in post-match interviews) acknowledged they really only played effectively for 55 minutes. If they bring a 70/80 minute performance next week against the ABs they'll be heading to the semi finals. Fingers crossed tho as a number of injuries (James Ryan, Tadhg Furlong, James Lowe, Mack Hansen) may dilute the match day 23 by next Saturday...
How ireland defended finn was very interesting. They used a slow drift as finn didnt bring the ball to the line, instead he was trying to use he amazing passing game. Because ireland used a soft drift and didnt bite in, they just waited for the pass and then chop tackled. Complete opposite approach to saffers but still super effective
Building nicely for the AB's Reminds me of Engerland 2003. wining 6N AND d southern Hemisphere before the WC. 2 epic QF's next week. Thanks for all your work
We got such a perfect start to this game but Scotland didn't letup till the final whistle. I Felt for the Scottish lads that came off injured. Now a very tough game against the All Blacks to look forward to. Come on 🇮🇪
Scotland scored the best try of the tournament. However the top 4 teams are way ahead of the pack. If Ireland win the RWC they will have had one of the toughest roads to victory
Mike Tyson in his prime said "everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the face" This Ireland team could rightfully claim the same. Next challenger in the ring NZ.
Ireland were just so clinical. Scotland shot themselves in the foot by not taking easy 3's and keeping the scoreboard ticking. They went balls to the wall from minute 1. Ireland are the best defensive team in the world. Take what's on offer
What a contrast to the game before...ireland are looking good and if they can keep it up they'll beat new Zealand and finally get the quarter final hudoo off their backs...Nice to see a team that enjoys their rugby and it definitely shows on the pitch.
Excellent review. I think Scotland didn't go for the kicked points because they knew they needed a bonus point win and they needed tries for that. I don't think it would have changed the situation. Ireland were clinical, I did guess correctly that Ireland would have the bonus point by half time.
Warrenball was effective for Wales at world cups. However, it was more atritional than other styles and in the latter stages took its toll on players. I can see Wales and even Ireland (not saying they play warrenball but they have an atritional style of defence) being impacted by this approach in this world cup.
This game ended up pretty much as predicted by a number of the pundits. The Ireland pack dominated their Scotland counterparts again. Right now Scotland appear hellbent on playing a 'chaos' style of game, gambling everything on a game being structureless or, an opponent incapable of playing to a plan.
They should have kicked for 3 on a number of occasions. They wanted that 8 point gap to magically disappear instead of playing smarts. Also it's disrespectful to the opposition and Spurs them on.
J Gibson Park had a great game out wide, would be exposed by a better team though. They didn't panic. Scotland only scored after Ireland took off 5 players
I wouldn't be so sure. Wales and England might not play such flair-based rugby but they know how to muscle-out test matches in knockout rugby... with a solid set piece etc. Scotland have done the usual and lost whilst looking good, that doesn't make them better in my eyes.
Don’t know what match you were watching but Ireland were playing much more “fancy” rugby that Scotland and had some great offloads in multiple tries. And if Hansen had scored that try where he knocked it on at the line that would have been another really well worked try.
What Schoeman did on that 'Off Pitch' (outside the remit of the TMO or Referee) incident, was absolutely nothing short of "Grievous Assault" he should be put behind bars and banned for life from even visiting a Rugby Union match. Shame on SRU, shame on WRC and shame on South Africa.
Jaysus lad, it looked rough but Sheehan got a try a few mins later. Don't think anyone will lose any sleep over it. He probably will get cited and a suspension and no one will worry too much. Not sure what the South Africa comment is about...
Why shame on South Africa? He's representing Scotland. SA have the best discipline at the WC. Not a single yellow/red card. The only team. If Mack Hansen or James Lowe or J Gibson Park are involved in a scuffle ... that's a reflection on Ireland, not NZ or Aus, Right?
Bit dramatic, was just a scuffle. Don't think Sheenan thought much more of it afterwards. Granted if there was an injury from it would have probably been carded but that's just how the game goes I suppose.
After Scotland scored the second try , I noticed ireland had a little huddle , seemed like it went like the decided ,that's it they're not getting another
To be honest to have the top four sides in the world on the same side of the draw is a mistake. The group of death has killed the 5th ranked team in the game
Ireland building to peak for the all blacks who will be hurting from the series loss it's on a knife edge, fair play to Farrell like Jackie Charlton a grizzled north of England man leading the Irish in to uncharted territory, Ireland abu.
The moment Ireland scored their 4th try Scotland were out of the WC due to the bonus point. Scotland would have had to score 47 unanswered points to qualify ahead of SA.
The foolishness of not having Watson on the bench was shown up when Ritchie went off early. But at the end of the day, it would have changed little. Scotland were finished by half time. Worry for Ireland was that the bench were not up to the standard of the starting fifteen.
Ireland in injury crisis, James Ryan, James Lowe, Mack Hansen, Keith Earls, Robbie Henshaw, all doubtful for next week, possible call up for Cian Healy and Jacob Stockdale for All Blacks game.
If ireland won this it would be one of the best , grand slam before then we would have had to beat SA SCO NZ FRA ? and if we did we would break the ABs record unbeaten. Unreal if it happened
Scotland needed to roll the dice after they conceded a try after 2 minutes. They simply couldn’t kick themselves to the 8 point victory that they needed. They needed tries to do what they needed to do, especially seeing as Ireland were never not going to score more tries in the remaining 78minutes. There’s no way you beat this Ireland team Ireland by 8 points unless you score tries
.. it was supposed to be a close game but Scotland were not able to break thru' until the contest was effectively over, while their own defense was shown to be the weakest part of their game. In contrast Ireland were very sharp, lethal, in attack and solid in defense. The result is harsh for the Scots because they are a very strong & coming team it's just Ireland are so skilled & cohesive. Scotland did not have the right game plan for this contest, some of their best players, like Russell and van der Merve, were hardly in it.
Anyone who trips some one on a rugby field is a coward.... that said the ref and the TMO were gash, blocking, forward passes, held up over the line, foot in touch - what the hell?
Dream on mate irish are battle hardened they have anotheer 20 percent to go this game is really for the final one game at time is green machine mantra😂
Only a 7 point different winning margin between Boks vs Scotland and Ireland vs Scotland…. Scotland would definitely have qualified if they were on the other side of the draw and possibly could have reached a semi final
A valid point. Purely by definition, three of the top five cannot make the semis. World Rugby have to sort it out for next time. If football can wait until 6 or 9 months before their World Cup before their draw, why do Rugby do it three years in advance? I've not yet heard a rational argument for that, that I couldn't blow holes in in a matter of seconds. Tough on Scotland, bearing in mind they would appear to be a better team than two that qualified for the quarters with a game to spare from the relatively poor Pools C and D.
Ireland were great. Early Defense looked unbreakable. But I do hope to god they dont get away with all the illegal breakdown work next week .. Berry was terrible. constant hands on the ground pre attempting the jackal. Foster needs to fire a few shots in the press and apply some pressure.
In the last 20 Ireland players looked tired think they over played there players dont think they will beat nz. WC is a marathon not a sprint. And all there pundits can sense it.
South africa beat Scotland by 15 points and Ireland beat South Africa by 7 points, so then Ireland should beat Scotland by 22 points? Rugby match results are sequential after all!
Yes Ireland were brilliant but i can not believe no one has mentioned the referee, Touch judges and the worst TMOi have ever came accross. Try 1 should not have been allowed or it should have been at least looked at. The foot in touch?!!!!! Come on !!! Every time Scotland asked for something to be checked. " nah, nothing there. Ireland had 19 players.
Scotland players shouldnt have bigged themselves up before game, talking about knocking ireland off their perch, they poked the bear, and only look foolish now, they do this all the time, you never hear irish players say they are going to do x y and z they just keep the gobs shut and let rugby do the tslking
Sorry but irish forwards were wandering around at 55mins. Nh teams love a breather and Scotland seemed happy to accept it. Abs will be licking their lips
Ireland have as much in common with Proud Edward's Army as I do with a beetroot, but Scotland have been sent homeward, tae think again. All this talk bigging them up beforehand was just so much hot air. The gulf in class was evident. I hope I'm not wrong, but I think there's a top four at the moment that the rest will struggle to beat, and there is maybe even a gap emerging between the top three and the ABs. Famous last words, I realise... my heart says Ireland for the trophy, my head says beware the French on home soil. Either way, I hope a NH team wins it, if only to shut the English up. Honestly, I live surrounded by them, and their rugby fans and their references back to 2003 are becoming as boring and pathetic as their football fans about 1966.
SA are over rated... They play a constipated version of the game.... Rassie's time as head coach of Munster was desperate, it's only under Rowntree that they have managed to recapture their way of playing, their identity. Bish bash bosch, defence, defence, scrum penalties, tank like centres running direct lines... Pure shite.. Though I think they might beat France by stopping them play.. It will be a turgid affair.... Real shame given they way the French want to play the game.. I hope I am wrong and France make it to the Final.
Conner Murray needs to be dropped...he single handedly hand 2 trys to Scotland, and was also being very vocal to Crowly..if he is on the banch/starts v the ABs..we will be in trouble
he ran a superb cover line to shut down a Scotland line break, pushed a forward off the line at pick and go by himself- great defender and very intelligent If we are ahead in a game and sexton goes of there isn't anyone better I'd rather have of the pitch, Murray can manage a winning position and defend - as good as dupont for that Chasing the game is different- we need speed for that
Honestly Scotland not taking their points seems like bad game planning. Like the logic is solid 5 or 7 beats 3 every day. It's worth the risk. The issue is I think they forgot how suffocating Ireland's defence is. Ireland's try line is locked up tighter than a Las Vegas virgin. In the end they lost points that could have kept them competitive. That also being said I think Scotland have a bright future. They always looked like they were in the game even after the BP. If they can just add some depth and improve their players they could easily be the next Ireland. Ireland also got the rub of the green I'll admit. At least in a couple plays
The Irish use the tactic called "pod play" where groups of players are strategically positioned to block defenders ILLEGALLY and create space ILLEGALLY for their attacking players. This strategy is 100% shepherding, as it allows the attackers to run behind the players forming the pods, and blocking or shielding them from the opposition having any chance of defending. world rugby has to decide whether they want to join the American football NFL or Not , How the Irish get away with this illegal, lame and cowardly tactic is anyone's guess , Go figure Just have a look at the first try and tell me how many Scotland players are taken out by Irish players running straight into them after someone else has passed the ball behind them
I feel your trying to suggest there is crossing involved in Ire attack, not the case and refs would notice that. - no runners block defenders line to the ball carrier As for contact when the ball is gone- I don't see any defenders being taken out, I do see J S 10 being taken out - attackers are allowed to take up space and if over committed defenders don't pull out there will be a soft bump, hardly taking anyone out, probably one part self preservation one part macho one part and one part gain an advantage Regarding this type of interaction off the ball, how do you feel about shoving at already won rucks, trail runners protecting their catchers, defenders taking out pivots after passing? Defenders blocking offloads? Is your emotional (cowardly, lame ) consistent across all incidents across all teams? - that's a feature of all games by the way not just ireland- you see it more with irelands attack because we play on the gainline more often

I'm an All Black fan and I feel the only chance the All Blacks have of beating Ireland is if Ireland let the pressure get to them.
The other two will Definitely have a say! There’s six World Titles between them, and Ireland have never made it out of the quarterfinals. At least France have made 3 finals.

You can be sure that AU/FR/NZ/ZA would have taken those 3 points! Hubris on the part of the Scots.

Ireland 🇮🇪 were amazing tonight thank you
Nice to see Ireland back in form. Well done Ireland.
They've won 17 in a row - been in form for over a year!
Building nicely for the AB's Reminds me of Engerland 2003. wining 6N AND d southern Hemisphere before the WC. 2 epic QF's next week. Thanks for all your work

Thanks Rich. Big ones next week now, France v RSA and Ire v NZ. Tournament really going through the gears. Ireland really clinical.
good review, honest , to the point, no waffle. You independent guys lay it out far better .
Great review and opinions, you’re producing the best product this WC, thanks.
Great work. Keep it up. Love your videos
excellent summary of the game .. well done!
Ireland are just so versatile, just got some many answers to everything
Mike Tyson in his prime said "everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the face" This Ireland team could rightfully claim the same. Next challenger in the ring NZ.
Tyson being ALL BLACKS
Hahaha right
Ireland were just so clinical. Scotland shot themselves in the foot by not taking easy 3's and keeping the scoreboard ticking. They went balls to the wall from minute 1. Ireland are the best defensive team in the world. Take what's on offer
Great analysis
Great analysis. Enjoy the remaining games.
Excellent analysis.

What a team
Excellent review. I think Scotland didn't go for the kicked points because they knew they needed a bonus point win and they needed tries for that. I don't think it would have changed the situation. Ireland were clinical, I did guess correctly that Ireland would have the bonus point by half time.
Ireland looking short on wingers after this match, hope that doesn’t cost them next week. Brilliant performance especially the first half.
So much for the early pre world cup predictions about Ireland not getting out of the group.
No injuries, I hope, Hansen, Lowe, Furlong, Keenan - looked like they picked up some damage...
Gr8 performance, Imagine running out with O'Mahony, knowing this man would kill his Granny to win a game
I think this match proved there is a big gap between the 1st 4 and everyone else.
I think Ireland played at about 85% of their potential tonight. I hope they play better next week against New Zealand, they'll need to.

What a team they love to defend and are brillent in attack
Ireland were just too strong for this very talented Scotland team. Shame to see the handbags in this game as we have so much respect for each other.
Scotland save their anti-Irish and particularly anti-Catholic spite for Ireland. Scotland Rugby are Rangers FC in disguise. Hope they get cited.
J Gibson Park had a great game out wide, would be exposed by a better team though. They didn't panic. Scotland only scored after Ireland took off 5 players
Scotland would never have scored if we had left on the starters,we took foot off the pedal from about 55 mins onwards, played only in 2nd gear.
Scotland are a really good team and probably a lot better than England and Wales but they just came up against an awesome defence
I wouldn't be so sure. Wales and England might not play such flair-based rugby but they know how to muscle-out test matches in knockout rugby... with a solid set piece etc. Scotland have done the usual and lost whilst looking good, that doesn't make them better in my eyes.
Wales do for sure, not england thry play puke rudderless rugby awful team to watch, nearly lost to somoa, infact should have lost
Unfortunately for Scotland they believed their own hype. Kicking early points was the way to go.
Ireland just far more clinical,no disrespect to Scots,Just outclassed.
Great win. But, there was a price to pay in terms of injuries. Will hurt with NZ next week.
“Scotland fans and the Scotland team have to go away and think”…so you’re saying that Ireland sent them homeward, tae think again?!
Battered and butchered poor scot,s.off with you now mattie.😂😂😂..stop pulling at you,r dress now mattie.😂😂😂😂😂
Let's go Ireland 🇮🇪
Don’t know what match you were watching but Ireland were playing much more “fancy” rugby that Scotland and had some great offloads in multiple tries. And if Hansen had scored that try where he knocked it on at the line that would have been another really well worked try.
Big game next week another QF oh my heart can not take no more, COYBIG COYGIG.
Agree they should have taken the kicks upfront
What Schoeman did on that 'Off Pitch' (outside the remit of the TMO or Referee) incident, was absolutely nothing short of "Grievous Assault" he should be put behind bars and banned for life from even visiting a Rugby Union match. Shame on SRU, shame on WRC and shame on South Africa.
You having a laugh. Chill.
Interesting about taking the 3 points, something the ABs must do. Maybe Scotland thought they could only win by getting tries?
Or drop goals when close, Samoa forgot them, hope ABs dont
After Scotland scored the second try , I noticed ireland had a little huddle , seemed like it went like the decided ,that's it they're not getting another
To be honest to have the top four sides in the world on the same side of the draw is a mistake. The group of death has killed the 5th ranked team in the game
Up the Irish
Ireland are simply sublime . I see them beating new zealand up up front
👎
Ireland building to peak for the all blacks who will be hurting from the series loss it's on a knife edge, fair play to Farrell like Jackie Charlton a grizzled north of England man leading the Irish in to uncharted territory, Ireland abu.

A day is a long time in rugby. Seems injuries are not as bad as first thought .
Of course, we are. The Scottish kicker is not good on the night poor decisions. Come on Ireland.
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Why haven't you covered anything on the Wales game all week nothing about team selection and nothing about last night's game ??
Hmm that last 15 a little questionable from Ireland. ABs will like that. Great win nonetheless.
Scotland had to score tries to win the game; they had to go to the corner instead of the posts. All the pressure was on them and Ire absorbed it.
They didn't have to do it in the opening minutes. Terrible management.
Scotland needed bonus try. That's U they kept going to the corner
It means nought if they fall over next week.
Nah sorry 👎
This game got talked up too much, 1 against 5 in ranking and Ireland on a path they are creating
6-2 and still no Hamish Watson! Townsend is not have the coach of Farrell
Anyone who trips some one on a rugby field is a coward.... that said the ref and the TMO were gash, blocking, forward passes, held up over the line, foot in touch - what the hell?
Scotland had a lot of ball and went through a lot a phases in the first half, they just couldn't crack Ireland's defence.
In a normal game they would have taken the 3 points. In this game they needed tries (not points) to stay in the world cup.
They should have set a foundation with 3 points, then build on it. Very psychological having a score on the board.

Conner Murray needs to be dropped...he single handedly hand 2 trys to Scotland, and was also being very vocal to Crowly..if he is on the banch/starts v the ABs..we will be in trouble
he ran a superb cover line to shut down a Scotland line break, pushed a forward off the line at pick and go by himself- great defender and very intelligent
If we are ahead in a game and sexton goes of there isn't anyone better I'd rather have of the pitch, Murray can manage a winning position and defend - as good as dupont for that
Chasing the game is different- we need speed for that
He won't be.
Bottom line Scotland lack isn’t up to the top teams. Schoemann, hookers, Dempsey quality
Second rows not really great
Ritchie overrated
Ireland looked dead on their feet at 60 min, going to cost them , no rotation, all blacks will run them hard
In fairness it was the 2 backup props who looked worse, no excuse there, rest seemed okay? Unless I missed something?
The game was won mate !
Professional sportsmen can't recover from playing for 50mins with a weeks rest? Ireland are also the fittest rugby team in world rugby.
No they won't 😂
Keep thinking that . We know different
The Irish use the tactic called "pod play" where groups of players are strategically positioned to block defenders ILLEGALLY and create space ILLEGALLY for their attacking players. This strategy is 100% shepherding, as it allows the attackers to run behind the players forming the pods, and blocking or shielding them from the opposition having any chance of defending. world rugby has to decide whether they want to join the American football NFL or Not , How the Irish get away with this illegal, lame and cowardly tactic is anyone's guess , Go figure
Just have a look at the first try and tell me how many Scotland players are taken out by Irish players running straight into them after someone else has passed the ball behind them
Someone's embarrassing themselves
I feel your trying to suggest there is crossing involved in Ire attack, not the case and refs would notice that.
- no runners block defenders line to the ball carrier
As for contact when the ball is gone- I don't see any defenders being taken out, I do see J S 10 being taken out - attackers are allowed to take up space and if over committed defenders don't pull out there will be a soft bump, hardly taking anyone out, probably one part self preservation one part macho one part and one part gain an advantage
Regarding this type of interaction off the ball, how do you feel about shoving at already won rucks, trail runners protecting their catchers, defenders taking out pivots after passing? Defenders blocking offloads? Is your emotional (cowardly, lame ) consistent across all incidents across all teams?
- that's a feature of all games by the way not just ireland- you see it more with irelands attack because we play on the gainline more often
Every video pal give over
