Maybe you're sensitive, Amber. The emotions were so heavy during times like those. The anguish, dread and fear inside those walls...ugh, I can only imagine.
Catherine described herself as "the most vile wretch in the world" in her letter to Henry, but Henry was the real wretch for forcing that poor girl to go through all that suffering.
Not sure what this is in reference to, I don’t see my comment here. Are you talking about financial wealth or something else? Your response seems very philosophical to me.
I passed out in the gallery of Hampton Court on a tour. I remember right before feeling absolutely terrified out of nowhere, not being able to breathe and feeling like I was ice cold. I thought that I had screamed because I heard a scream, but nobody else heard it. I found out later that this happens especially to women in the gallery.

My sister and I are from Indonesia and knew nothing about the hauntings in the gallery. We also did not know anything about the history of the gallery. The moment we stepped into the great hall my sister said to me, "I do not like it here. Let's go, " but I sensed nothing and said, "Oh just a little more," and coaxed her to go up the gallery. As we went up the gallery she became more and more uncomfortable and kept asking me to leave. Then when we reached the door to the chapel behind which the narrator says Henry was at prayers and at which Catherine was said to have been screaming and pleading, my sister became extremely upset and grabbed my arm pulling me out of that section of the palace very agitated telling me, "He was an evil, evil man! We must get out of here now! Right now." Afterwards we visited a friend for tea and she told us that gallery was known to be haunted.
Its crazy to wrap your mind around when you see shows and movies of historical figures that they were real people and lived their lives like anyone. I can imagine putting myself in her shoes, screaming down the hallway trying to save my life. Gives a sinking feeling, sense of dread thats just horrible.
I doubt that Kathryn Howard ran hysterically screaming down the corridor, it was reported that she ordered the execution block be brought to her room the night before her execution,so that she could practice laying her head on it, i believe her request was granted, to me that doesn't sound like someone who would go hysterical. Think people in those days were made of sterner stuff than we are,
@@Tawadeb No neither can I but apparantly people then had a different mindset. wanted to be seen as in control of their feelings and keep their dignity, . In case you think I imagined it. It is well documented. Perhaps practicing with it took some of the fear away.and I expect the quieter you kept, gave the axeman a better aim.
Katherine Howard’s life was actually so tragic. Everyone cares so much about Anne Boleyn and her ordeal but Katherine Howard’s was so much more traumatic
Katie Racklyeft, totally agree with your opinion. To me,Anna Boleyn was the worst wife that Henry had. Don't feel any sympathy for her,the Boleyn woman,i mean.
I would LOVE to see Howard’s spirit. It seems her spirit needs someone to encourage her to be at peace. If she screams it’s because her life was brutally ended too young. I would not be frightened by that terrified young woman, spectral or corporeal, as I only feel pity for her awful situation.
Yes of course. But really she continues to scream because she experienced her death over and over again. Her spirit is trap and needs to be set free so she can rest in peace
It's likely that the feeling of dread or anxiousness in that room that people get is likely from Catherine herself. They are feeling the same fear that she felt during this time in her life, or rather, nearing her inevitable arrest and execution.
Your Comment makes sense to nw. I live in a council tenement flat, and often sense the presence of the last tenant who died here. Allegedly his death was unexplained, but its almost as if he is trying to tell me someone was responsible. . It gets very cold sometimes,. 🤔
I can’t even begin to imagine what went through her mind when she failed to reach Henry and she realized what was really going to happen. Poor Catherine; she needs everyone’s prayers. Poor, poor girl; no one deserves what befell her.
I went in Sept. of 2019 and I was standing in front of the picture of King Henry with Jane, Mary, Elizabeth, and Edward telling my cousins and aunt the story of Catherine Howard. Suddenly I got a chill and goosebumps on my arms and the hair on my neck stood up on end. I looked at them and asked if they felt it and they said no and sort of looked at me funny. I invited the Queens to show me a sign they were there. I asked them respectfully before I stepped into the castle. It was a bit of a scary feeling but it proved to me that they are still there.
It’s so bizarre to think of being cloaked in all that finery and surrounded by the rich decor while being treated like a caged animal. Makes my spine tingle 🥺
Poor young girl married off to an ageing, obese, stinking and diseased lecher old enough to be her father. How ghastly for her to have to submit to his advances 🤢 and then to be ‘murdered’ by him in a fit of pique and jealousy for seeking the lighter and more attractive company of her peers.
I despise Henry VIII as much as the next person, but I do believe the execution of Howard was against his true will, and more political than anything. It is said that he forgave her past relationships, but having a wife who had an affair while with him would make him lose supporters both in court and among the people.
I think I would rather see Anne Boleyn but either experience would be cool. I understand the feeling that some of you experienced. There is a haunted hotel near my home, and there is a room I cannot go into there.
This is the story which brought my attention to Tudor history. I was about 7 and was an advanced reader, so I was allowed to choose books for older children. I saw a book called The Haunting of Hampton Court and decided to read it. The picture I forged in my head as a child of Catherine running down the corridor screaming after Henry has never left me. Since then I became fascinated with medieval and Tudor history.
When we visited Hampton Court, I walked into one part and immediately got a strange cold, feeling like a shudder and exclaimed aloud "Oh dear, this has a weird atmosphere!" It cleared the room - and when I went over to see what the room was called it said "The Haunted Gallery"! I didn't see anything though.
Would love to go there some day. My late father was doing a TDY to England and Germany for the US Airforce. He got to the Tower of London, Hampton Court, and Windsor Castle. Never thought to ask him if he saw any ghosts there. Now maybe he didn't pick up on anything. He would sometimes tell ghost stories the family brought over from Germany, and he when someone in the family would die, would hear in his dream a beautiful woman singing. His mother and her Aunt louise also would have death dreams in regards to relatives passing. So you would think he might have experienced something, but maybe he didn't get to the Haunted Gallery.
I would absolutely love to be able to work at Hampton Court Palace and maybe be able to see any Tudor era royalty. I think it would be absolutely amazing lol

Katherine Howard had the worst luck ever. I hope her and the other queens that haunt the court finally find peace and go to where they all deserve to be.
I visited Hampton Court 2 weeks ago and I have no clue of the layout or where things are. However when I looked at the doorway to the gallery I felt this awful feeling of dread and sadness, aswell as this heavy feeling in my head as I was walking towards it. I too remember walking through the “haunted gallery”. Very heavy feeling. I felt such pressure around my head. Very oppressive. I can understand how people could faint. The irony was...NOT ONE of the men accused along with Anne Boleyn-with the exception of Mark Smeaton the musician who, because he was of low rank, and could legally be tortured to extract a confession testified against Anne. The others, to a man, stood up for Anne's innocence and went to the block still defiant, declaring their and Anne's innocence. As for Catherine Howard, the 3 men accused with her: Dereham; Culpepper and Mannox blamed each other, blamed Catherine, blamed Jane Rochford, Anne Boleyn's brothers widow whose testimony threw Anne and her brother George both under the bus. They accused Catherine of seducing them...Catherine Howard inspired NONE of the loyalty and devotion her cousin Anne--who was totally innocent--had.
well, the men who were accused of sleeping with anne were close to her. one of them was even her younger brother. the men accused of sleeping with katherine simply used the poor girl. they didn't care about her.
It's unlikely George Bolyens widow was the one to betray them. I appreciate musicals like Hamilton and Six for getting people into history. Katherine Howard's song from Six is am upbeat pop song, but the lyrics are dark and tragic. She was manipulated by older men her whole life.
I'm a huge Tudor fan and I would love to see either Anne Boleyn's ghost or Katherine Howard's ghost. For Katherine's spirit, I always thought her to be trying to find help and forgiveness from Henry and everyone else that was around her. When the first distant scream happened, we both looked at each other as if, 'what the heck was that?' But no-one around us seemed to notice. Then we heard it again, a distant scream of a woman. Thing was, we didn't even know the history of that gallery, nor the haunted reputation, until AFTER we had left! Days later! And in the old BBC series from the early 1970s, 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII', my favorite episode was the one about Catherine Howard.
I think the amazing but the saddest thing about Catherine is that she is Anne Boleyns cousin who suffered the same fate as her. Although she had a swordsmen for her execution they both died in the same manner. Anne was said to be loose with her morals (which is led to be believed as false accusations) and that was used against her. With Catherine she was loose with her morals but was a victim of predators. Very sad that their families used them for their own selfish gain.
Katherine Howard suffered so much for so long only to die at the hands of a murderer Out of all Henry’s wives, Katherine Howard had it the worst in my opinion

Even if Catherine Howard was guilty of the crimes that she was accused of, she probably shouldn't have given Henry the satisfaction. Henry was going to have her beheaded either way. She was just a teen who was pretty much thrown into the position of queen. I don't think that I could have slept with a man who had those ulcers on his legs that were wreaking terribly. Yuck! Poor Catherine.
Don't be silly, it was the 16th century! If you read about Katheryn, you'll see that she loved every second of it (until she was accused, of course). 'Every day she dressed with new clothes in the French fashion bedecked with precious jewels, decorated in gold around her sleeves'. She was THE QUEEN, the center of attention of the whole Europe! She was given a palace, the servants, loads of jewellery and presents that are madly extravagant & expensive today! Her whole family moved into court and "Henry indulged her every whim, thanks to her caprice". For a teen in mid 1500’s that was beyond the wildest dreams (she was actually between 16 and 21)! For a teen today, it still is (and for majority of adults in the world, tbh). Henry called her 'the jewel of womanhood', saying he'd never known 'the like to any woman', and ambassadors wrote about her vivacity & happy, joyful spirit. It's unfortunate how it all ended, for sure, but it fits in the zeitgeist of the early 1540’s...

I doubt that Kathryn Howard ran hysterically screaming down the corridor, it was reported that she ordered the execution block be brought to her room the night before her execution,so that she could practice laying her head on it, i believe her request was granted, to me that doesn't sound like someone who would go hysterical. It's likely that the feeling of dread or anxiousness in that room that people get is likely from Catherine herself. They are feeling the same fear that she felt during this time in her life, or rather, nearing her inevitable arrest and execution.

I felt that feeling of dread and heartbreak from Katherine. She didn't deserve what she went through.

I despise Henry VIII as much as the next person, but I do believe the execution of Howard was against his true will, and more political than anything.

Made me want to stay in that corridor all day, & not go on w the tour.
wheres the vid
@@aihoshinoirl it’s on my home movies. And I don’t upload to UA-cam. I’m part of the “lost generation” who tech has past by.

@@mystified1429 I’m talking about when I was at Hampton Court Palace. I have a recording where I asked her(Catherine Howard) questions & then these beeps started happening in response.

There are fire doors, in larger buildings, that automatically open when an alarm anywhere is set off.
She was truly a child forced by domineer uncle and men.such a shame. For Catherine
