  • Pierce Brown teaches how to get past a nasty case of writer's block. Whiskey is involved. Expand your story with free-flowing word associations by zeroing in on a single character and creating a "compost heap" of material to define their backstory and their tone, and to help inspire their storylines.
Materials needed: Pencil or pen, paper; optional: whiskey.
    About the author:
Pierce Brown is the #1 New York Times Bestselling author of the Red Rising Saga. Find out more here: www.piercebrow...

This guy is a genius writer and someday he’ll go down as one of the greatest fantasy/sci-fi writers ever. Thanks for the wisdom Pierce!

@@Biggy111 Yes exactly! I read princess of Mars in order to get to know the classics and I was shocked by how similar it seemed to red rising. Larger than life protagonist, first person view, lots of fast paced action and more than a few melodramatic monologues about how awesome the main character is.
Very pulpy, very enjoyable writing style which isn't seen very often in sci fi anymore. As much as I love high concept political space opera like Ancilliary Justice and Memory of empire for tackling some interesting themes. I will always be a sucker for stories where the focus is on action, adventure and a whole lot of ass kicking in interesting alien settings.I will say though that I really appreciate how Pierce Brown put a lot of focus in characters and character relationships, great way to modernize an old style and add some tension.

My man Pierce dropping some wisdom! This seems like a great way to tap into the essence of writing and manifesting clear emotion for one's character or story even. I absolutely love this and I hope there is more to come in the future!

Pierce dude, I love you man. Your mind and how you observe the world is amazing and gives me much needed hope... I know this is a writers block exercise, but the 1st 3 minutes is what im referring to, and why PB is just an amazing human being.

Lysander is such a delusional bigot, but he's also one of the most interesting characters to me and the best POV (well, him and Mustang).
It's killing me that Pierce created a whole poem that he says is basically meaningless, but is still so _good_ . Peak humble brag :P
