Pierce Brown on How To Get Over Writer's Block
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 сер 2024
- Pierce Brown teaches how to get past a nasty case of writer's block. Whiskey is involved. Expand your story with free-flowing word associations by zeroing in on a single character and creating a "compost heap" of material to define their backstory and their tone, and to help inspire their storylines.
Materials needed: Pencil or pen, paper; optional: whiskey.
About the author:
Pierce Brown is the #1 New York Times Bestselling author of the Red Rising Saga. Find out more here: www.piercebrow...
This guy is a genius writer and someday he’ll go down as one of the greatest fantasy/sci-fi writers ever. Thanks for the wisdom Pierce!
his writing style reminds me of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Agreed
@@Biggy111 Yes exactly! I read princess of Mars in order to get to know the classics and I was shocked by how similar it seemed to red rising. Larger than life protagonist, first person view, lots of fast paced action and more than a few melodramatic monologues about how awesome the main character is.
Very pulpy, very enjoyable writing style which isn't seen very often in sci fi anymore. As much as I love high concept political space opera like Ancilliary Justice and Memory of empire for tackling some interesting themes. I will always be a sucker for stories where the focus is on action, adventure and a whole lot of ass kicking in interesting alien settings.I will say though that I really appreciate how Pierce Brown put a lot of focus in characters and character relationships, great way to modernize an old style and add some tension.
Without a doubt
@@Biggy111 For that reason alone I must read his novels, for Tarzan of the Apes is my favorite hero-character of all-time!
I love that even his pen is a tragic character.
I love the writing style of Pierce, I hope one day i can write like him!!
I am a big RR fan💕
What's the point of writing like someone else?
@@franciscolargocaballero5722 you're right
Weird! PB looks a bit like what I imagined Darrow would look like.
Right?
Do you mean before he was carved?
Same!
@@jonsmith7667 Ya while he was still a Red, sorry real life PB but you don't look 7 feet tall in this video!
My man Pierce dropping some wisdom! This seems like a great way to tap into the essence of writing and manifesting clear emotion for one's character or story even. I absolutely love this and I hope there is more to come in the future!
Great video, now send it to Patrick Rothfuss!
Pierce dude, I love you man. Your mind and how you observe the world is amazing and gives me much needed hope... I know this is a writers block exercise, but the 1st 3 minutes is what im referring to, and why PB is just an amazing human being.
This is some sound practical exercise and I love it!
Glad you like it!
Thank you for everything, Pierce.
I know this isn't the point - and I normally am completely meh about poetry, but that is an awesome poem !
I think I just became the 100th subscriber. Hi. Also, good video. I love Pierce Brown.
We need to see you again!
Personally I love Lysander. Hilarious seeing PB describe him as a tormented bastard. That's him to a tee.
Do you still hold up with that?
Love love love the books! 🥰🥰🥰
I love him!
You heard it from Pierce Brown, folks - alcohol solves problems!
Nice😊
I know many may not notice, but thats a bottle of Lagavulin up in the corner of the room. Little Morning Star easter egg.
He looks far younger and more elf like than I expected
Ah yes, Lysander the Light-Resistance-Bringer
Damn I’m sober I can’t drink
Patrick Rothfuss should see this video.
Lysander is such a delusional bigot, but he's also one of the most interesting characters to me and the best POV (well, him and Mustang).
It's killing me that Pierce created a whole poem that he says is basically meaningless, but is still so _good_ . Peak humble brag :P
Pierce Brown writes faster than GRRM even with a typewriter 😂
quick, someone send this to george rr martin
based Lysander did nothing wrong
Copy someone else's book?
