We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” Ephesians 2:8 With that being said, as Christians we are called to turn from sin and to live righteously. That should NEVER be interpreted to mean that we have to EARN Gods forgiveness. Works of the law will NEVER get you saved nor keep you saved. However, good works are EVIDENCE of GENUINELY being born again and of GENUINE salvation.

The issue is we are of sin nature and not one of us is perfect even after internally giving up sin. This is where God’s grace is reflected from the sending of His one and only son who was able to live in perfection who took the sins of the world upon Himself (the includes our past, present, and future sins) and died on the cross in our place. Not only did Jesus die for us, but 3 days later resurrected defeating death so that death no longer has any power over those who have just humbly accepted the Lord’s saving grace. So yes internally there must be a desire to turn away from sin. However, sin has stained us. So if you are still in sin, which we all are, there is hope because of the beautiful grace of God. But allow the conviction of your sin to turn into motivation to give the Lord your very best. Remember we are not saved by works but we are saved by grace. If are we saved by works then JESUS did not need to come. But because our works can’t save us, Jesus’s death and resurrection offers those who take it freely salvation.

I myself have been baptized for it is “the next steps” after salvation not in a legalistic way but in celebration of salvation. The individual’s heart will be what is judged by God not whether or not they were baptized. I will always recommend continuing on with baptism to new believers, but I believe if a true faithful believer in Christ died without being baptized. They will not be sentenced to hell for it’s not the action of baptism that saves but it’s the internal transformation of the heart on the inside that the Lord judges.
