So... have you ever wondered why we have money boxes that are shaped into pigs? Probably not. But of course, I did, cause I'm weird like that, and well, as usual, it turns out there's a ton of history behind these things. From Java, to China, to Germany, in this episode of Pointless History, we follow the steps of the infamous money box as we try to understand how it came to be. Like. Comment. Subscribe. You know the deal :)
// About //
Hey, stranger! 👋 I'm Josué, I come from Spain and I'm just a random dude online who thinks too much about stuff. So that's why I made this channel, to ramble about things I find interesting and to hopefully not waste your time in the process. Subscribe for more science, history, art and just about anything I can steal from Wikipedia. Just kidding, I'm not smart enough to understand Wikipedia. Also, you have links to social media above if you want to talk to me for some reason (Twitter's where you'll probably find me :)).
It also makes sense to use pigs bcause pigs are a kind of a saving, you feed them without an inmediate reward in order to get a bigger reward afterwards
Huh 🤔. Good point, I hadn't thought about that 😅
Thanks homie I made a piggy bank in ceramics class was asked to do a presentation on why, so this is a great resource
The piggy bank thumbnail image comes from the era of the Majapahit kingdom, in Java it is called "celengan" celeng is boar.
Lmao I used to look under my couches & beds as a kid when I got my first piggy bank😂😂
I'm glad to hear I'm not alone 😂
I like your wit. Your channel is a hidden gem.
i know you mentioned that you don't add sources, but i was wondering if you could idk, drop them here anyways (if you have them saved anywhewre that is, ofc), bcs i need this for a project, and i don't know if i can just add a random youtube video as my source and make my teacher happy. in any case, even if you can't thanks for the video, it helped me out.
The struggle to pronounce Majapahit is real 😂
Anyway, Majapahit kingdom a.k.a present day Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for hundreds of years, it probably reached Europe through the Dutch.
Its bothering me so much how we will never really know💀
I was sitting here thinking about this because my nephew is going to the swap meet with his mom and I asked him where he’s gonna put his money and now I’m here
I knew this would be useful to someone! Thank you for asking the real questions 🙃💙
Don't stop making videos :´)
I'll keep them coming as long as there's people like you who come watch them ;). Thank you so much for the support! 💙
