How to make moong-masoor daal (Instant Pot recipe)

  • A healthy and filling one-pot meal that blends together both moong and masoor varieties of daal.
    Ingredients:
    1 cup of moong daal and one cup of masoor daal, boiled together
    1 medium onion, chopped
    2 cloves of garlic, chopped
    1/2 inch of ginger, sliced
    1 medium tomato, chopped
    1/2 a lime or lemon
    2 tablespoons of oil
    A pinch of turmeric
    Red chili powder, according to taste
    Salt, according to taste
    Any kind of cooking oil
    Keep some water handy
    Recipe:
    We're using an Instant Pot for this recipe but you can also use a pot on the stove. Set the Instant pot to saute. Add 2 tablespoons of oil, and heat it up.
    Add onions and let them cook for a few minutes. Then, add garlic, followed by ginger. Let it cook for a few additional minutes. The onions should be transparent when ready.
    Then, add tomatoes and let them cook until the mixture looks like gravy.
    Add a pinch of turmeric, some salt, and some red chili powder. Taste as you go.
    Now you can add your boiled daal to the gravy. Keep stirring so nothing sticks to the bottom of the pot. Add some water, and bring everything to boil. While that's happening, you can squeeze in some lime. Once the daal is boiling, you can turn off the Instant pot and let it simmer down before serving. Enjoy with rice or on its own.
