I have just come across this upload and am very pleased that I did. I so enjoyed watching it come together from the very start. A very beautiful piece of work. Thanks for posting.
I just found your channel and am so happy, love your work! So inspiring. I'm a plein air beginner, self-taught, and for this I really apreciate you sharing your techniques and insights. I feel I'm in a live class with you.
I Enjoyed, Love country landscapes and old buildings. Would have like it slower with your thought processes and techniques as you painted. I suppose that’s harder to do and edit. Thanks for your time and sharing. Loved your choice of material, depth of detail an color choices. Will look for more, thanks Again
Thank you very much, Constance - I really appreciate the feedback. I’m working on a new video that has some of those elements- I should have it posted in a week or two - thanks again!
Lovely. I really enjoyed the middle section where the image suddenly transforms from 2D to 3D & the depth builds out of nowhere. Thanks for posting Doug!
Very nice job, Doug. I especially liked the amount of time that you spent on the details, after the main forms had been defined. Those details took it to another level. I was wondering if you had considered doing a commentary instead of the music during the editing process? It wasn't bad, but I just muted it so I could watch the video over and over. Thanks for posting this. It was really good.
Hi Rick - great time hear from you! Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I am planning that - this video was just a short intro to both myself and the way I painted so I wanted to ‘stay out of the way’ a bit and just let people watch the process. The next piece will be all voice over instruction. Thanks again for the feedback, brother!🤓🎨
Amazing work! I really liked how you explained the background before you started. I have recently started using oil paints and like you said the paint wants to help the artist, totally connect to you what you said. Beautiful finsih to the painting. Really inspiring!!!
I can’t thank you enough for the wonderful feedback, Shilton - that’s everything I was hoping for when I made the video! I hope enjoy the others as much🎨🎨 Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Hi Shelly- yes, I’m working on a second camera set up that can capture the paint mixing as well but I’ve had some tech issues - but it’s uppermost in my mind! In the meantime, I am thinking of doing a short video just talking about my paints and how I mix - let me know if that would interest you and tide you over until I get the second camera up. Thanks for commenting!🎨
Hi Nicky - thanks for the question and I’m glad you liked the episode! I have a breakdown of my palette colours in another video - it’s the ‘Q&A: episode 1’ video. At 15:40 into the video I go into the colours I use. I also have two ‘Two minute tip’ videos that talk about how I set up my palette and brushes too. I hope that helps and thank you again for watching!🎨🎨
Everything about this is first class. Youre intro, of course the painting which is awesome, and the soundtrack. Very Very well done! BTW where did you get that music?
I can’t thank you enough for the kind words, Mark - really means a lot! And the music comes from Artlist - it’s a subscription based music library - I can’t recommend them enough if you’re looking for music to use in your own projects!🤓🎨 Thanks again!

@@douglevittfineart Wow! Thank you for answering! i heard that doing an Alla prima painting can be difficult because you only have one layer of paint. But i see that a lot of artists actually paint a lot of layers doing Alla prima, i´m not sure if they are all using a type of medium and thinner or if they are mixing the painting on the canvas without any medium, but that would contradict the whole thick over thin rule right?
@@erp123erp when you paint alla prima it’s usually done in one setting and it’s best to start thin and as you go you do tend to build up the amount of paint you’re using - for me that’s part of the fun 🤓🎨🎨

Thanks for the really nice demonstration. I have one question: How long does a painting like that take to dry? I assume you are using the pure color and no drying agents, so just the pure paint. I imagine it must take months. As a novice in oil painting,, I'm trying to find my way with oils and somehow I like the alla prima approach.
Morticia147 Hello - thanks for the comment and question! Actually no, out of the tube (good guess, btw🤓) the paints are fully dry to the touch within days to a week.
