Just heard this on a John Peel BFBS show I downloaded from 1984 was shocked at the lyrics but they're funny. Wonder if he played this version on his Radio 1 show.
It was recorded for an NME tape, you could order through the mag. They did this regularly, with great success, before the late 80s turned the mag to mush.
rare, long mix? too bad about the sound quality. ~ come check out Gag-bit Vinyl in Bushwick NYC for forgotten early 80s/post punk/new wave gems, including The Mighty Wah! ~ :-D

"We'll get you on the Sooty Show!"
Original version rejected by the label because of the lyrics. Particularly the line "We'll bribe the charts and pay DJs, 'cause money talks".
Imagine if they got away with that xD
''Howard Jones can have hits; The Pretenders have hits; even The xxxxx have hits''. Who is that band?
Neil Roberts the Truth,a terrible mod revival band who had a baffling minor hit or two, with implications of heavy record company "inducements"
Mighty Wah!
The Truth, a pseudo-mod band who bafflingly had a couple of minor hits, backed by some serious major label advertising.
The Truth, a lousy nuevo-mod band with large major label backing
Is this some demo?

It was recorded for an NME tape, which was a fairly regular occurance in the 80's.
