- New Jersey began as a royal gift from James, Duke of York, to Sir George Carteret and Lord Berkeley. It was named after a battle fought to defend the Isle of Jersey in the English Channel. New Jersey marks its 350th anniversary on June 24, 2014 with a look back at the colonial roots of New Jersey, originally divided into territories known as East Jersey and West Jersey.
"It Happened Here: New Jersey" is a production of Kean University, in partnership with the New Jersey Historical Commission. The series is narrated by Willie Geist. PCK Media is serving as producer of the series. For more information about this and other activities planned for New Jersey's 350th Anniversary, visit www.officialnj350.com.
I was born in Toms River and I am a local native Piney and my roots go back to 1668 here in New Jersey. I am proud of New Jersey's history and of my heritage.
Wow that’s incredible! I love how we still share the same passion for our state heritage; but my family has only been here for 60-200 years

i couldn't find the book i was meant to read so like thanks
How is the old East and west separation the same as modern north and south separation ?
its bc North jersey is much more developed than south jersey. South jersey is mainly forest and towns here and there. North theres a suburban sprawl everywhere. Id know this living in new jersey. More people also live in north jersey as well.
🤔
@@perkyraid9089I feel like the only people who get this are the people who live there. I'm Jersey adjacent but I still get it. But how's Central Jersey fit into this? I always thought of it as that area somewhere near Trenton but before Princeton where neither side wants to claim as their own.
