As a traveller my self, Tom you must never forget your back ground! Most of us come from nothing and have been taught to learn how to stay humble from a young age
This video was basically a huge flex on Tom's part, i'd argue Mark gave more value, only thing we got from Tom was that somewhat shallow advice at the end, and that he got lucky, twice, once with being basically born into car flipping, and another being finding a loophole, of which likely don't exist today. I credit the loophole finding to luck, because i doubt Tom was staying up for days on end trying to figure out how to game the system. I do appreciate the honesty, and the video was beautiful and inspirational, but not super educational.
Hi, I wanted the video to inspire any one that it’s possible to do better. You can put many things in life down to luck but in my opinion you have to put yourself in the position to take advantage of that luck when it comes along. My hope in making all my videos is that they inspire and then everyone can level up, maybe not to the level Tom has but if you could double your income then life is a nicer place. Tom is very proud of his achievements but I had to pull the stories out of him so it’s not about flexing. I want to do more rags to riches stories because that’s what inspired me when I was younger to make something of my life. Thanks for watching MT 🤔

Hi Karl, unfortunately not everyone can have a great experience, selling a car to a dealer is never really a great experience as you know they have to buy low enough to make a profit. What they do say is they will offer you cash today and for some in a hurry this is a good way to sell or part exchange. Hi, I think what happened was Tom wanted to keep his reputation intact so rather than not supplying the cars he had to buy them all at the higher price but honour his contracts with his customers. Should any 12 year old budding entrepreneurs wish to emulate Mr Hartley..... well he's right about 250 quid being a lot of money in 1971, as the strap bar shows. It also means you need to visit an auction, aged 12, with £32,575, possibly plus hammer fees and not get ripped off. A little while later, aged 14 you drive your Rolls. Good luck with driving your uninsured, unlicensed car past today's ANPR systems. Imagine what a no licence and insurance conviction would do to today's 17 year old motor traders business policy costs. Then aged 14 or 15 you import 10 to 15 cars a week. Your going to need a dodge here too; none of this can be on any credit, because children can't get any commercial credit. So somewhere in the preceding 3 years you need to have done enough sucessful deals to be able to stump up for 10 to 15 new cars. Aged 16. On your own. And if you owned a transport company and a kid phoned up for three car transporters return trip to Germany... do you think there may be some poetic licence in the whole 'self made' bit. Do you suppose there might be just a tiny little bit of family backing somewhere in this story. Or did someone really loan a boy 1950 quid in 1971, knowingly pass up 250 quid profit, not demand a return on the loaned money, help with the logistics because he cant drive legally, and hasn't the skills to fix the Range Rover if its crashed. Nor can the asset be insured by the 12 yo purchaser. And theres no legal recourse if these truly remarkable deal terms go wrong..... Perhaps the teacher was mistaken; perhaps it was fatigue from the worlds longest paper round that was affecting school.
Hi, these are all the reasons not to make it in 2022 how about making a list of all the advantages you have now such as, mobile phones, the internet, Digital products, eBay, websites and a better education. We can all make a list of why it’s unfair and why I can’t make it. Those that make it ,toss the excuse list in the bin 🗑 . Thanks for watching, time to write that list and take action. MT 😎
@@marktilbury The above isn't an excuse, it's a much needed dose of reality. Hartley asserts he is a self made man. Starting at 12 years old with the equivalent of 32 thousand pounds, and offering no acknowledgement of the rare and highly supported circumstances he must have been in is disingenuous. Its conceivable I am wrong and Hartley started at 5 years old and generated a few pence, then through reinvestment and hard work turned this into 1950 pounds in 7 years. If that is the case; I doff my cap unreservedly. But he'd have said, with some considerable volume. It's not self made if your benefitting from the finances of elders or inter generational windfall. End of. This in no way degenerates the work and wherewithal to carry sucess therafter. But, you appear to be suggesting that if someone wishes to emulate Hartley then positive thinking is the primary resource. Granted it's most valuable, however any financier on any commercial arrangement is going to want to see a realistic way of repayment, or some security. This is all fine with some track record but it always comes with a price, something you and Hartley appear to be wilfully overlooking. Times have changed, Hartley achieved business sucess by numerous transgressions of the law- he states this himself - by admitting to driving under age. Import loop holes might show up stridently in the era of the omni computer too. The elder generation have enacted laws that prevent this route being utilised so readily. Some crime does pay, even if its just avoiding motor vehicle insurance costs until old enough to actually hold a licence. This is in no way being negative; loads of business's need to sail close to the wind until, the term is being 'established' isnt it? This reflects reality. Buy the most needed, and keep your head down until.... Without finances the first deal cant happen unless your very lucky. Anyone of any age who repeated this projection of a sucess story is going to fail and you must know it... because you can't pay for Range Rover's with a list of positive mental attitude, not now, not in '71 and not tomorrow or could you point me in the direction of sources of unsecured loans devoid of repayment costs please. I get it also, you recieve income as well as networking value from positive content so maybe it's not in your interest to throw rocks at stories. Your respectful critic, Andy.
Maybe his family won the football coupon (the pools)? Rumour has it.. but coming from a travelling background..id take every word with a heavy pinch of salt. His advice? Well, break the law, dodge the tax, f##k all authorities, seems to be his early MO.. reads like a budding gangster story. But, he's done real well for himself, and most successful business men are dodgy bastards. Lol
This is different from your usual videos, it's more of a Strike It Big level of content! It may be a bit far fetched but I think a podcast with Mr. Hartley would be awesome to see.
But really, nowadays opportunities are behind heavy walls of established corporates and regulations compared to when technology first bloomed. I wonder what is it that millions of people haven't thought of, and how I can use it to my advantage without being crushed by big coporations.
Hi, it’s not always all about coming up with a brand new idea, it’s more about doing something in a better way. For example people were buying cars before Tom started and people were ordering Taxis before Uber started there business. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Hope this helps. MT 😎
I’ve met and know many rich people, what you realise is there are all manner of personalities which can be “successful”. From knowing these people you start to realise that we allow money to define “success” far too easily ; it also has no bearing on you as a person, there are people who vile and rich and I have zero respect for them. There are incredibly humble people who are rich. I’m not casting any particular view on Tom Hartley, but I don’t respect him just because he’s rich, that would be madness.
Hi Mark! I know this is a "slightly" different topic, but I really like your shiny blue suit on your profile pic! Where did you buy it from? Or did you get it custom made at a tailor?

Fair to say this man is zero self awareness. There is a glut of what I call 'bull dogs' from his era who just want more and more and more, they will never have enough.
Hi, he may be a bull dog but he’s managed to bring his Son Carl into the business who is now a 50% partner. The Hartley Brand goes from strength to strength. They want to grow because if you are not growing you are going backwards. Thanks for watching take a look at the podcast Strike it big to see the full story. Thanks MT 😎
Cool cars and showroom but I have no idea how this guy earnt his money. He somehow drove a Rolls Royce at 14, found a loophole and made a million, car companies stopped that and he lost it all (somehow???) so worked any job he could and now has a $300 million business. I like the idea of interviewing successful people but think how they've become successful needs to be explained more clearly.

Hi, I am sure most businesses had a few shady deals back in the day but I think the overall service and quality to customer care is excellent. Thanks for watching MT 😎
He’s wealthy but is certainly not a billionaire by any stretch of the imagination. Perhaps you’re confusing his net worth with the value of the cars he has sold over the years.
It wouldn’t take a genius to work out he’s not worth £1,000,000,000 - that’s what £1b in numbers looks like. Maybe he’s worth £100,000,000 (one hundred million), that sounds more plausible. Also I would expect the Sunday Times Rich List would have been all over this.
He must be doing something right but I don't know what it is. Comes across as charmless, humourless and the couple of interactions I've personally had with his business were not positive ones. Would never even look at a car they're selling but others obviously feel differently.

Hi, everyone is different and Tom is very proud of his achievements. You don’t have to like everyone but you can learn from their experiences. For me it’s about listing and taking any advice that is applicable to me and applying that to my life. Thanks for watching MT 😎
Don’t you just love the orange Bic ballpoint pens on the desk😅
Well spotted sir!
Your video have helped me so much thank you Mark!
You are so welcome!
@@marktilbury What price do you the think the S and P 500 will fall to in 2023 and when do you think the best price would be to buy it at to hold for the next 5 years
@@mathewmartin6824 He’d probably tell you not to try and time the market 👍🏽
I don’t understand how he lost his money? If he put deposits down for cars and the manufacturer refuses to sell, they would return your deposit otherwise it’s theft?
Hi, I think what happened was Tom wanted to keep his reputation intact so rather than not supplying the cars he had to buy them all at the higher price but honour his contracts with his customers. This is very rare these days but Toms honest reputation is what has made the company what it is today. Big short term pain for great long term trust. I personally know quite a few people that have bought from him and he has never let any one down. Thanks for taking the time to ask. MT 😎
Lol
Collab with Dustin Sternmyer please!!
This is different from your usual videos, it's more of a Strike It Big level of content! It may be a bit far fetched but I think a podcast with Mr. Hartley would be awesome to see.
Hi, watch this space ! Stike it Big will be releasing a new podcast soon. Thanks for your support. MT 😎
step by step, with a vision, you can achieve many things. Salut Mr Hartley!

"'Money's not everything?' Well, everywhere I go money's everything."
Hi David, it’s a fantastic quote, I will for sure be using it myself in the future. Thanks for watching MT 😎
Tom has definitely reached his dreams.
I think that you should make a video on how to make money in your teens since most of your viewers are from 12-20 years old.
Hi Tom was 11 when he started some lot of advice in this video. Thanks MT 😎
amazing video with tom and your other video with tom carl
Hi David, thanks for that. Please share it with your friends as we want to do more videos like this. Thanks MT 😎
Congrats well done very inspiring 👏 God bless you more from strength to strength 💪
MT 😎
@@marktilbury Thank you for the tips.
Hi Mate, Custom made in Hong Kong , including shirt and tie under £300 ! MT 😎
People slag him off, but I notice how good his memory is. That means his mental adding up and decision skills are amazing.
Hi Dick, he is spot on when it comes to the numbers, also his son Carl is pushing the business to new heights and is now a 50:50 partner. Hope you enjoyed and shared the video MT 😎
What about Dubai dealerships, probably better in inventory.
Hi, I have never been but plan to soon, the thing with Tom that’s unusual in the high end car game is he buys everything, most dealers don’t, they sell on commission so the cars are not there’s. When I go to Dubai I will check it out. Thanks for watching MT 😎
Bro is casually driving a Rolls Royce at 14 years old
I can tell it's going to be a good video
Awesome!!
Thanks MT 😎
Amazing inspirational!
Grim lack of humility
Cool cars and showroom but I have no idea how this guy earnt his money. He somehow drove a Rolls Royce at 14, found a loophole and made a million, car companies stopped that and he lost it all (somehow???) so worked any job he could and now has a $300 million business. I like the idea of interviewing successful people but think how they've become successful needs to be explained more clearly.
yes and how did he buy the range rover at 12? he had no money well odd
@@TheSpyUk I can only assume wealthy parents. He wouldn't of been able to buy any vehicle at that age. Likely the same reasons his son took his test in a Ferrari.
Hi, Tom worked in his parents Carpet shop to save his start up money and did a deal with the Range Rover. He did not need to own it he just made the money as the middle man, the Deal Maker. Hope you enjoyed and shared the video. Thanks MT 😎
so the secret is, be born before the internet
Why does he look like former wrestler Brett Hart 😮
Everyone in insta knows Tom Hartley coz of his dynamic son, who runs the business now.
Police: Do you know why I stopped you?
Carl Hartley: Coz…I let you (after hitting amazing speed in his veyron)😅

2 pound a brick is a regular price for bricks
Bricks are about 75 cents. A nicer brick is $1.50. He was paying $2.34 per brick at today’s exchange rates. I’m sure it added up.
@@rjthomasindyusa In Sweden regular bricks cost around 1.5-2 pounds
He built the showroom around 4 years ago and at the time that was a big cost for a Brick 🧱. Thanks for watching MT 😎
Being vertically challenged seems to give many people motivation to become successful.
Always better off buying from a main dealer
I think if you a high end second hand, his son would be a better bet.

Believe in yourself.
Hey M.I , I'm not a reporter mate, I'm a multi-millionaire businessman sharing stories, tips & tricks on UA-cam. I wanted to have a chat with Tom, to find out whether becoming rich is lucky, or if it's a repeatable scalable formula.
As Tom came from nothing to millionaire, only to then lose it all and then bounce back, I thought he was the perfect case study.

I am new to ETFS - I am looking for a safe ETF, something similar to "top 500" etc. - BUT:
WITHOUT any "woke" companies
WITHOUT any "green" comapnies
WITHOUT any "trendy" or hyped companies
WITHOUT any social media companies who do stuff like metaverse
WITHOUT any car companies
Does anyone know any stable ETFs WITHOUT any of that stuff in them?
I could have supplied those bricks at half that price.

Shame that his business is shrouded in haze full of shady deals, mysterious cars and bad service.
This is the net worth he gave me based on the valuations of his multiple businesses, real estate & Hartley estate
Hi, from my personal interactions I would say he’s a very interesting guy that has done well. On camera he does come over a bit like Andy Murray but of camera he is very charming. I would definitely buy a car from Tom or Carl so sorry to hear your experience was different to mine. Thanks for watching MT 😎
