How could this not end up in the Out of Spec garage! Absolute insanity, high quality, and useful upgrades. Really excited for more electric overlanding vehicles!
How u knew their quality? Bcz they in oregon? These design originally invented by americ🇺🇸ns for years ago. Inspiration out of native's mericans camping culture. Trust me they love it so much
For those concerned about power there are two smart options for this EV camper: 1. Tow a small trailer with a gas generator and two jerry cans of fuel. Enough to get you charged up even in the dark to get you back onto the road. 2. Similar small trailer with multiple solar panels that you can then plug into a DC to AC power inverter. The benefit here is the ability to charge both the camper and Hummer with no noise or fumes, and without the fear of running out of fuel. A proper purpose-made trailer could also have a 2nd fridge/freezer, additional fresh water supply, storage for gear/clothes, space to mount 1 or 2 ebikes for destination exploring etc... Your only limitation will be grey water dumping, and if there is a toilet on board, black tank disposal. The other huge advantage would be using the Hummer's adjustable suspension to lift/lower the camper off and onto the truck. Assuming it is just a bolt-on job, it wouldn't be too hard to keep the camper on a special rack when not in use, and when needed, just back up under it with the truck and mount it as necessary. Your typical slide-in truck camper uses telescoping legs to do this. Looking forward to seeing this product develop and mature.
They sold ~857hummer, what’s the business case? 1% of EV buyer? If they make 20k of profit that is ~180,000$. That’s not a lot. They made custom mold for the side panel, hope they reuse the top section from other product.
I now live on Kangaroo Island and just ordered the new MY24 LRSM Polestar, due to arrive in a few weeks. I graduated from CU Boulder in 1995 and worked at the Loveland Reporter-Herald newspaper. Back in the mid 1970’s GM paired their Chevy Blazer and GMC Jimmy with a similar concept from Chinook Mobilodge Inc. However that time you did get the camper body through your GM dealer. It was the Blazer Chalet and the Jimmy Casa Grande.
I would estimate about 10,000 lbs before adding any gear/water/passengers. Regardless of the range issues (this will of course significantly reduce range due to weight and drag) and the lack of off-road abilities baked into the platform the sheer weight and size will keep to from doing anything more than simple back-roads. Don't look for this on the Rubicon any time soon unless that whisling diesel idiot wants to do one of his "destroy something expensive for clicks' videos.
They said you can charge the vehicle from the EarthCruiser's power. But with those small solar panels on the roof, it would take FOREVER to charge a Hummer. You really would have to engineer your own solar charger. I've seen people throw a bunch of lightweight flexible solar panels in their EV, take them out at the campsite, lay them out, connect in series, and charge a baterry that feeds into an inverter and then into your charge port. But with this EarthCruiser thing, you already have the battery/inverter. But that would all be a pain in the butt.
@@biglee13m Certainly not out of my price range. However, I am a conservationist. But why? So some wealthy people can pretend they're doing something good for the environment by rolling across the wilderness in a $200,000 EV w/ bed camper that weighs over 10,000 lbs? lol... ok. First off, how about not buying the Hummer EV with pitiful 1.6 mi/kWh efficiency in optimal 70 mph highway conditions when a smaller / more efficient truck will do. How about instead of buying a bed camper that's hard to remove, you instead get a small popup camping trailer for $15k (which is basically all this is, but with a price tag 6-7x higher)... and disconnect it when you want to go off-roading? Hell, at least you can disconnect it when you get home and still have a functional truck. For concentrating so much on aero, those side pods don't seem very aerodynamic. They, and the entire unit overall, just add front surface area to the Hummer. Likely better than an RV, but again, you can easily disconnect the RV. For something developed so closely with GM... why does this thing not just plug into one of the Hummer's bed outlets and use 110V electronics instead of including another 6 kWh of battery and 12V electronics? Know what you can use the 6 kWh of batteries they added to this for.... 3-12 PEVs to replace car commuting miles. Ironically you'd probably want to have one of those on hand when you park this behemoth somewhere in town and just want to get around the town quickly and easily without the enormous energy usage and trying to find a place to park this behemoth. Even better, know what you can use the Hummer's 250 Wh battery for, 125-500 PEVs.
