I think it's a fair question. My answer would be it's a combination of things. 1. It is a different culture., and naturally given the history between the two countries there may be an element of Irish defiance against England, which, if a player relates to, could be a factor. 2. With Ireland's much smaller pool of players to choose from, the chance to have had Rice and Grealish (and several other English players who were qualified to play for Ireland) would have had a great impact on Ireland's success compared to the impact upon England's, where there might be two or three players of similar quality vying for the same position. 3. Obviously Rice and Grealish represented Ireland at senior and under-21 respectively, and changing allegiances like that would be hard to fathom for someone who would think that you can only be proud to represent one country, especially between two pretty diametrically opposed nations like England and Ireland (historically speaking), so there might be some animosity around the perception that they used Ireland to further their ambitions to represent England. Personally I think Rice and Grealish have made the right decision in settling with the country they feel the most pride in representing, because that's what international football is about, and is a quality that distinguishes itself from club football.
It's not the other way around. These two have 20 and 19 caps respectively for Ireland and then swapped. This is international football, not club football. How can two people suddenly change their nationality?
Why aren’t the current Irish team still doing this. There must be eligible EPL players who are not going to play for England but would do a good job for Ireland.
The real villains today are the FAI, not these two players. The fans in the stadium should have been booing the FAI, rather than the English anthem or these players. If the FAI spent as much energy trying to develop players in their own country, as they do trying to recruit impressionable English youngsters, then they might actually have a team worth talking about now. BTW, guess what. This is going happen every single time one of these ringers develops to the level that he thinks he might still be good enough to play for England. So, the FAI is only fooling itself with this policy.

No problem with these two lads choosing England, playing for England. They are English and of couse that is who they should play for. Good luck to them. Neither would be 100m pound players had they went wwith Ireland. Players like Townsend, Aldridge, even Carsley were never going to get many England caps, if any. But they had fine international careers with Ireland ans made our team better. The problem with Rice and Grealish is that the FAI managed those situations badly. Nobody should ever be capped until they are fully committed. Having said that I think its a disgrace Bellingham and Gallagher are using Irish passports to play for Spanish clubs while obviously being English for international. Pick one or the other lads. UEFA need to close that loophole.

You can try try try to come up with some sort of angle on the game, but at the end of the day we (Irish) are not a real football team. England on the other hand are a proper one. It is what it is, typical Irish luck. Just back home after a day trip to Dublin. I was actually born in the same town as Rice but both my parents are Irish so I'll always support them. Yes its disappointing these two decided not to continue with Ireland as they are quality players but you can hardly blame them, their hearts clearly weren't in it. I think this game was a blessing in disguise in relation to feelings towards the two of them. The game yesterday should put closure on it now and more then time to move on now. It was obviously disappointing to lose them when they switched allegiance. Irish football is in a bad place. There is a lot of hard work being put into the underage teams. We just have to hope that good players will come through from it and we will bounce back and qualify for tournaments again in the near future. Euro 2028 is a tournament to target with being a co-host too.

Ireland is British territory. Your King III. Charles your allegiance to and tell him that he is your king. Both players played for the Royal and they beat the Irish Rebels.
@aslan-qp2xk You a mighty man Aslan. No one laughs at you, I bet. Trolls hide their intent much better than you. You need to up your game.
Carsley looks real deal as a manager. Rice beginning to look world class. Might be as big a loss for Ireland as Wayne Rooney
No issue with either lad, made their decision to play for England, and it's to be respected.
Good showing by the two Irish boys

Declan feels bad, you can tell when he talks
If he felt bad, he’d be playing for England. Get it up ye 🏴😂😂
Thanks alot from Lee Carley for helping the england squad ❤❤❤
Indians praising the Irish for an English win. Hilarious.
Having an Irish grandparent makes you Irish but an English grandparent, parent or being born in England doesn't make you English?? r@@Mal_Freeman0451
Well done lads 💯👍 good game last night
Irish manager's two Irish players scores against Ireland
Funny cause none of them have Irish accents.
ALL BORN AND BRED IN ENGLAND 😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉
You can try try try to come up with some sort of angle on the game, but at the end of the day we (Irish) are not a real football team. England on the other hand are a proper one. They deservedly won and the fact that people on here are arguing about Irishness and Englishness is just childish in the extreme.
They are ENGLISH, but have Irish heritage and represented Ireland...
You guys are making out like Grealish & Rice are born and raised in Ireland
It was a set up
As a scouser with irish Gran parents, i would have chosen Ireland all day long. that's my heritage
Who gives a fuck what a scouser thinks?
Scousers are amazing man, Irish born but grew up in London,,, then went up to Liverpool for 8 years or so. Amazing city and people and Im 100% that the reason I got on so well is because it felt like home (Ireland).
I don’t get why this gets so much attention THEIR ENGLISH players PLAYING FOR ENGLAND 🫠 This would be like England fans crying about Musiala playing for Germany.
And Haaland 😉
Well it's closer to Norway complaining about Haaland if he played for England
This is like a teacher calling the two trouble makers to front of the class
proud of them❤❤❤❤

Two fine lads just doing what’s best for themselves. This booing of them and their anthem is so childish. Grow up and support your team. We have a long way to go but get behind our team and don’t be distracted by immature crap that won’t help our team.
The focus needs to be more on developing Irish born players but that's too much hard work for the FAI, isn't it.
Rice is welcome back any time. Great show of respect and maturity.
Grealish is a disrespectful little snake.
" What's that word " Jack Grealish utter english plank
Look at Grealish's face at 2:07 in responce to Rice's statement about 100's of goals under Gareth Southgate.
Was looking for this😂

I don't understand why the Irish fans are so upset, we let Scott Mctominay, Che Adams, Angus Gunn and others play for Scotland and nobody cares
... Musiala as well... he literally did what Jack did... imagine Musiala in this England team!! (3 assists and a goal tonight btw!)
McTominay was born and raised in England but he has a Scottish father.
As an Irish supporter declan rice is going to become one of the greatest ever if he continues as he is, even in this interview you can see he is controlling it and not giving the media a chance to take him out of context where as jack whos older says he loved Ireland but there's no better feeling than playing for England 😂😂 its clear ones an entertainer and ones a footballer 😅 which is disappointing when you look back at grealish with villa, he was majestic on the ball and would take on anyone
Don't know why the paddy's are so salty, these guys are born in England, English accents, have only ever lived in England. Yes they have Irish ancestry but they're not 'Irish'. They should loosen up
You've made the same comment multiple times. I guess you enjoy using the word 'paddys'....gimp!
Loads of the Irish lads with English accents! I agree lighten up 😂

Well said Jack, welcome back
I think this game was a blessing in disguise in relation to feelings towards the two of them.
It's your country. You live with the feeling.
Gordan chance that's the one he should have scored the Trent long ball pass was insane
Rice is a good character
Yes rice and jack get on in there ❤😂🎉😢😮😅
A think grealish will bounce back strong this season ....
Not going to the euroa would hurt him bad
Ireland should be looking for a new goalkeeper. The liverpool keeper was at fault for both goals.
Grealish was definitely missing from Southgate’s Squad.
Rice is really Irish, why do you think he didn't celebrate? he chose England for the money simple as. England fans know this is true deep down.
or, in reality, he chose paying for England because the alternative would be playing in a midfield with Molumby, Ogbene and Szmodics
If you’re only going to play for countries where you’re grandparents were born then it’s going to get complicated for everyone, there’s very few better examples of a countries history and culture than a nation’s sports teams
* second you're should 'your'
You’re absolutely right
Ireland is British territory. Your King III. Charles your allegiance to and tell him that he is your king. Both players played for the Royal and they beat the Irish Rebels.
Rice is a class act
Dropping Grealish for the Euros was criminal and playing saka over bowen is borderline incompetence.
Think the continued incompetence is letting Kane anywhere near that starting 12
Ireland getting pumped by England on their big day out 😂 and these two get both goals
2-0 is your idea of "pumped"? Your missus must be miserable.
At least it wasn't Iceland. 😅😂 or 4 nil by Hungry🤣. I thought ye lot were😄 favourites to win euros😆
‘Big day out’ 😂😂😂 it’s a glorified friendly, one of our least important games since the last nations league campaign
@kmc8298 When Ireland, it's a big day for them they get all excited until they start getting pumped 😄
@@the-blue-barron2791 we get excited for every game no matter who we’re against, we knew we were gonna lose either way and it’s a meaningless competition anyway so it wasn’t a big game in any means.
I’d hardly call a 2-0 loss against euro finalists a pumping but whatever floats your boat
Darly horgan has been ireland best most crative playing when playing for ireland a wes hoilana type player sadly hes confidence is gone weve no such players and its sad to see irish soccer not respecting such creative players !!!
From a scot here, cant not like grealish, not the brightest but a proper genuine jack the lad, crackin player as well. Good to see him playing well again. Glad southgate left him at home this summer
Even the manager is Irish 😂😂
Remind me now, what nationality was Jack Charlton the most successful manager of Ireland ??
At least they only ripped our team apart and not our stadium this time.
Grealish having to look to Rice for the right English words like Ronaldo's first interview with Gary Neville ffs

O Declan Rice é o que tem mais chance de vencer o prêmio de melhor jogador entre os indicados do Arsenal,na minha opinião.
Respect to Rice for sticking up for Southgate.
Jack is the best
Jack Grealish and Lee Carsley are clearky not Irish. They both have Brummie accents, were both born and brought up in Brum. They may have some Irish heritage (Lee C. Has one Irish grandparent). That's unless the city of Birmingham is in Ireland now?
I thought Birmingham identified as middle eastern.
Two next door neighbors fighting over candy. Let Grealish and Rice be .. they had options and they choose.
THESE 2 HAVE SET ENGLISH AND IRISH RELATIONS BACK A HUNDRED YEARS 😂
@@Jackie-ji2sj Learn to speak your mother tongue!
Used to play for ireland and now playing for england! More opportunities to play for england than ireland! Both of them got booed hahaha
Why has this suddenly become a thing? Loads of England players have played for Ireland as of and no doubt vice versa.
Can't believe Southgate left Jack out of the Euros. In any other nation he probably would be in start 11.
I'd say the reason Rice didn't celebrate was because he understood there was a lot of offense taken from Ireland fans after he joined England after playing 3 friendlies for Ireland. Grealish on the other hand only played underage for Ireland so he celebrated like he should.
To be fair to Jack, he done that interview pretty well. Two brilliant players but realistically they should have never represented Ireland. No bad blood is right 👍
“Resolve” wtf…. jack clearly wanted to say motivation 😂😂😂

I'm Irish, the two lads made the correct decision for their careers to play for England, Irish football has been awful for years now. Best of luck to them
Disappointed but not too surpised by that result. I don't agree with booing anthems or players. So what if they chose to change and play for England. They were born in England and obviously feel English. They have Irish ancestry and were entitled to try for Ireland too. Those are the rules. Good luck to them. Hopefully we can pick up decent results against Greece and Finland. 🤞
