The Story of the Cruel King Bukhtanshar, Killing the Children of Israel and Burning Baitul Maqdis
Nebuchadnezzar or also known as Bukhtanshar, was a cruel king from Babylon who colonized and massacred the Children of Israel and destroyed the kingdom built by the Prophet Solomon. Tabiin cleric, Said bin Musayib said,
"Nebuchadnezzar attacked Syria, burned Baitul Maqdis, and killed them. Then he came to Damascus and killed thousands of Muslims among the Children of Israel." (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 5/48)
At the beginning of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar often took power from small kings by paying tribute to submit to him or fight them until in the end his power quickly expanded to Syria, Phoenicia, Palestine, Iraq, North Arabia, to a small extent in Asia. Nebuchadnezzar also besieged the city of Jerusalem which was occupied by the Children of Israel for 18 months, looted and burned all the contents of the Baitul Maqdis and then killed thousands of the Children of Israel, including King Zedekiah. Some of the Children of Israel managed to escape to Egypt, and those who did not manage to escape were made prisoners, including King Jehoiachin (King of Judah, Jerusalem), his troops, even the craftsmen and blacksmiths to be made captive slaves in his country in Babylonia, including The Prophet Ezekiel or Danial (a prophet recognized by the Jews), this caused the Children of Israel to be scattered at that time.
It didn't stop there, Nebuchadnezzar also continued to fight with various Pharaohs of his time, starting from Pharaoh Nekho II, Pharaoh Psamtik II, Pharaoh Hofra and Pharaoh Amasis II. This war was fought inside and outside Egypt, such as in Carchemish (during the time of Pharaoh Necho II), Jerusalem (during the time of Pharaoh Hofra), this war was often won by Nebuchadnezzar, even his war with Pharaoh Hofra in Jerusalem shook the Egyptian army and caused internal conflict. Until finally Pharaoh Hofra fled from Egypt and was replaced by Pharaoh Amasis II who was a general in the Egyptian army who was considered successful by his people. Nebuchadnezzar then again won his war with pharaoh Amasis II until he finally succeeded in setting foot in Egypt and then established a throne of greatness in Tahpanhes before finally returning to Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar died in Babylon in 562 BC after being attacked by a plague of mosquitoes.
