I meet Steve in a masterclass last September. Very cool guy. I remember when he told us "If you're hired for a gig and you play like this (he started to play his harmonic stuff) .. the most probable thing that will happen is that you'll be fired"
I'am completely blown away at Steve Bailey's playing...and then plays on a fretless. I'm a bassist and could never understand how the hell you know where to go with no lines n dots. Love listening to him play. It's mind boggling
Love Steve's playing and approach to playing harmonics and chords. His techniques probably aren't gonna be of much use in conventional musical settings(band), but its both entertaining and inspiring to me. Respect...
Little late but there was a more affordable version that I played at GC and it was a artist line rockbass and it had a 18mm spacing. The one in the video Ove is showcasing has the broadneck 20mm string spacing. Pretty good if you want to play chords and stuff but personally I don't see the point of such a wide spacing as I prefer a 17.5mm string spacing and I'm mostly a 5 string player
Actually, there is another version, the rockbass artist line that has the 18mm spacing. I played one at GC while browsing the bass room and it was comfortable, the one Ove is showcasing is the broadneck 20mm spacing. Personally, I don't see the point of such a wide spacing, I prefer a 17.5mm spacing and also being mostly a 5 string player. Hopefully that helped out a little about his bass.
so for you when Scott henderson uses his bar to "detune" the notes is playing out of tune, and of course allan holdsworth is always playing erroneous notes...
Maybe he's aligned with Thelonious Monk and thinks that there are no such things as wrong notes. Maybe try reading Effortless Mastery ? It helps to put it into words/ perspective better

Besides the fact that is quite hard to play in tune with a fretless instrument, sure he is not like a violin player doing that slide vibrato all the time to "distract" ear's listener, creating notes that sound pretty and comfy to listen to. As a Bassist, he must keep a stable and still note playing, so "wrong" or more like: - strange notes- can be heard.
I think that bass is pretty ugly (ain't talking about the tone, awesome as all Warwicks), but mr. Bailey seems to be a funny guy and he's a great musician.
It's beautiful and the snakewood fingerboard is epic, except that ugly truss rod cover It seems made of an cheap plastic and is a weird idea! you dont need open truss rod every time you change strings when u have a high-end bass with straight neck also Opening and closing the truss cover takes about one minute not more!
It doesnt sound like an 8k instrument.. Don`t get me wrong..its beautiful in every way but it doesnt sound much different than his 3K Fender signature bass..TBH..those Seymour Duncan soabars lack both depth and sustain and are more midrange oriented...Not to mention that 8K is Fodera teritorry.

José Damián Bazaga Ruiz if you do some solo gigs you could most definitely use the harmonics and other fun stuff.
instaBlaster.
What a beautiful instrument!
He and Victor Wooten performed at my college just recently. Mindblowing experience.

The body is like the streamer bass but it has type 2 diabetes
Awesome bass.
Incredible hand technique too..
That is one bad ass bass. And comes with great features!! Love that cloth

Steve makes that thing sing!!!!
I love Steve’s sense of harmony. He doesn’t play bass, he plays MUSIC ✌🏻❤️
Playing bass is playing music like tf?
This whole video proves that tone is “in the hands” the moment the guy played the bass ufff
WICTOR VOOTEN
He plays like no one else.
This is a deserved ultimate compliment...
We lefties always get shitted on in the guitar world; however that bass sounds incredible.
Amen! 😫
Is that a Haslip quote?
1:16 snakewood fretboard
I’m practically oohing and ahhing now
Wow! What an Instrument!!!!
Wow... I never noticed this, but they are playing the bass that i'm the owner on this video! :D
Of course, only Steve Bailey can play it and make it mean something!
I wanna know what blonde hair dye Tommy Wiseau used to get these mad bass skills
tommy wiseau playing bass
I did not slap it! I did not!
I've always wondered if anyone's made a fretless' fingerboard out of snakewood. Seems like a good choice for high-end fretless basses.
I was like " who the hell is Steve Bailey" and now i know.
Did he say "Wictor Vooten" ?!? Lol! I luv Ove !
Steve is playing with roundwound strings?
Beautiful sound, um....how much $$???
The spacing looks wider than other 6 string warwicks, anyone know what the string spacing is at?
Doh he goes over it in the video, way too wide for me.
Tyler Mills 20 mm
i dunno watched it twice, no big difference xD
***** 20
Yea way too wide for me, 16.5mm is where it's at.
Are those flatwound?
Pippi Langstrumpf Song @ the end! ... \m/
Who is Wictor Vooten?
What's the string spacing???
Gee I wonder if it's mentioned.
He does say it in the video - its a broadneck so 20mm spacing
The teeyounours are located on the hatstock
In the discription in Warwick.de it sats that there is 18,5 mm string spacing

Steve bailey is the master of harmonics on bass. along with Jaco pastorius.
Check out Michael Manring, I believe that he should also be on that list.
Please don’t put Steve in the same category as Jaco, ever.
Bolt on and it’s how much $?
Hello Hechman67, you can find all information here : shop.warwick.de/en/Instruments/E+-+Basses/Warwick+Masterbuilt/Steve+Bailey+Signature
I wish they would tell us how much they cost when they do these videos !
Dear +Tony Withey , just check our pricelist online: warwick.de/en/Warwick---Pricelists--Warwick-Masterbuilt.html :), best regards, Michael.
Why would someone want such wide string spacing?
The sunglasses make him look like a tool.
For the love of god what happend to his face? I wish him nothing but well
Do yall make one of these in a budget version?🤣 $8,200 is a little bit out of my budget. 🤔 ahhh...screw it I'll take 2
there’s no way anyone’s paying that price, bass sounded heavenly until the sound guy started playing it. Tones in the hands
Didn't this one come as a 5-string as well? Jäcki Reznicek uses one, doesn't he?
I own the 5 strings version (with frets). Amazing bass.
I don't understand why Steve always playing out of tune ?

where is he playing out of tune? Do you know what intonation is?
Omega_Ronan um no. TM is a superb musician.
I think that bass is pretty ugly (ain't talking about the tone, awesome as all Warwicks), but mr. Bailey seems to be a funny guy and he's a great musician.
I haven't seen it yet.
I'll go and check it out.
snakewood harder than ebony? got a fretless with ebony fingerboard using roundwounds. lets just say that wood can take a beating 🤣
It's a pity they don't put fret lines to it. No one seem to have good enough to play in tune!
Seriously tho. Broad neck is only 1 mm wider than standard & it's always adjustable on Warwick bridges ;)
complaining about being in tune when someone's playing solo, like, who cares? equal tuning is just a standard anyway
It's not an excuse for being out of tune lol

I'm sorry but Manring is pretty better
WICTOR VOOTEN
As in Wolksvagen?
