Chery Tiggo 7 Pro 2024 review: New Chinese brand targets Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 family SUVs

- The 2024 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro has arrived in Australia with some very, very big plans. As a mid-size SUV, it finds itself in the mainstream segment going tyre to tyre with sales heavyweights like the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5. Needless to say, it had better be good.
So, what does the Tiggo 7 Pro bring to table other than a smartphone-sound name? Well, unsurprisingly, it plays the value card by offering buyers a strong combination of sharp drive-away pricing and a long list of standard equipment across its range, with all three grades powered by 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine that drives the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In this Expert review, CarsGuide Deputy Editor James Cleary gets behind the wheel of the Tiggo 7 Pro at its Australian media launch to find out whether or not it's a compelling new option for family buyers.

This is a very fair review, unlike many other Aussie reviewers who can't seem to go past the fact these are Chinese-made cars and nitpick everything to suit their existing biases.
Agreed it’s pathetic
Its much better than the Japanese alternatives ... its an amazing vehicle
The design of the interior and exterior lines have a hint of influence from Jaguar Land Rover. After all they're in partnership with Cherry. These guys have become China's number one auto exporters because these cars are very reliable.I definitely prefer one of these over what the Koreans offer.one recall after another for Kia and Hyundai. The Japanese aren't doing a much better job either.
Oh dear the Nanny State would be so furious since two star J11 without ESC endangered teen drivers but banned in Vic to keep out of reach of vulnerable 18 year olds.
Talking about B roads how about taking it for a drive from Crows Nest north to blackbutt Qld to test out the ride comfort bring along your kidney belt
Why???? You got Toyotas to do that
Toyota is virtually giving the value for money segment away to the Chinese .12 month waiting times are ridiculous .
Agreed. Punching 50K for a mid d8zed family vs 35-40 for Chinese one with all the trimmings. I ‘now where I’m going. Don’t get me wrong I like Toyota have owed several but looking elsewhere lately.
We own a big bad Chinese car love suits us and budget. 55;000 for a Toyota??? You have rocks in your head going after a Toyota especially with all the recalls, and I’m down trouble
Worst point: It's bland.
Best point: It has a rear wiper.
There isn't enough space here to list all the influences from other cars.
To sum up ...a Morris Garage.
Wish my MG was like that
All the old MG,s used to leak oil every mg owner said the same thing
Have you test driven it and seen it in person?
That’s right. What Chery has done was using the best ideas from other cars and created this beauty. Why don’t you instead of writing nonsense, go do a test drive and see it for yourself.
I've never quite understood how these Chinese companies try to target Toyota and Mazda markets...it's chalk and cheese.
If you think that’s who they are targeting, then you’re a few har gow’s short of a yum cha.
@@simowhy5303 enlighten me?
hahaha, this is the funniest comment I've seen this new year. Japanese made products have been caught by made in China. Mitsubishi Nissan whose carsales market has been squeezed out from China n challenged in Asia and Africa.
Both Mazda and Toyota are shooting themselves on the foot over priced cars with hardly any feel or tech pass

I decided against the 7 Pro as I was upset that they bought in the model with the cheap fake looking plastic (in front of the passenger seat) instead of the model they get in (right hand drive) South Africa that has beautiful (fake) leather right across the dashboard
DCT. Premium fuel. Reflective displays for the dashboard. Nope.
its a curve screen, they were invented to be NOT reflective.
