I fist heard Doug sing and play "The Panama Limited" in 1966-67 at The Dome in Virginia Beach. We were both sailors in the Navy then. There was a large crowd...at least 1,000. He played two guitars...a Martin D-28 and a Fender Strat. He did Panama Limited on the D-28, open tuned with a bottleneck. He had the audience mesmirized. The young lady sitting next to me had tears running down her cheek. You could hear a pin drop! He later played Chuck Berry's "No Money Down on the Strat. He's awesome!
Saw Doug MacLeod in Norwich, Norfolk, England a couple of months ago he's really worth seeing and hearing live! I also saw Bukka White in London way back in the late 60's, Enjoyed both Bukkas passed away but we still have Doug :) !
Wow, Dog basically had a generic encounter with a Black guy when he was younger & he's turned it into some kind of authentication/crossroads myth where he thinks that he's been blessed by the African American race to perform REAL BLUES & do a black-face impression his whole life. This is an older generation's understanding of how to play roots blues music. There are much better interpreters of this music nowadays. You can actually be white, speak with your actual voice & play Blues well. What you can't be is the reincarnation of Bukka White or Charley Patton & that's what to many white performers of this music mistake. We're interpreters, NOT BLUES PEOPLE. Doug should know better. PS playing Blues guitar well is great but it's not enough. you need more high quality ingredients to make it a complete & powerful art.

This transcends the blues. Truly stunning personalised version of a great Bukka White classic. Wonderful, curative, soul bending stuff.
Doug played this at Castor last night - brilliant, spellbound audience, warm humour, great blues.
Excellent! I'm a big fan of the Tom Rush version and this one rocks my soul :)
