My cosmetology teacher told us a horror she had when a client had their hair braided too tight. The woman had gone back twice to the person who braided it to say it was painful and the woman just told her she had a sensitive scalp and the braids were fine. But the woman went to my professor to get them taken out because of the pain. My professor said that as she started taking the braids out she saw her scalp was bleeding and infected so she sent her to the hospital. The womans entire scalp was infected and they had to basically surgically remove all her hair that left her with no scalp. The womans hair never grew back and she was left with a scalp that looked like healed burn scars.
What did they do afterward? That woman needs to be sued to her bones & her shop closed & her license suspended (do you need to have hairdresser/stylist license?)! It was a crime.
great Value chocolate chip her cousin did the first sew in that gave her heat damage. A different girl did the second sew in that pulled her hair out she wasn’t family
She’s so pretty omg she looks so good with a shaved head. Reminds me of black panther the kings guard all women have shaved head. I literally can’t believe how strong & positive she was the whole video I would’ve been so upset omg

just an fyi to any girl getting a sew in weave, or just getting you're hair braided in general weither you are black, white or whatever, (esp to white girls, since this might not be as common knowledge as it is to black girls) if someone braids youre hair it should not hurt at all, if your are in any type of pain, you need to tell your hair dresser right then and there. Some hair dressers will claim "this will make your braids last longer, because of the grip", girl no if your hair gets braided to tight, it will fall out, and you will go bald. If your hair dresser does not loosen her grip, or if she tries to justify the pain you are in, you need to get up, take your money and leave.
That's why my mom don't(Edit:done) stopped taking me to salons... she does ny hair now... they used to snatch my roots and stuff and almost made me go bald... like she never liked the styles either... but I would get those bumps on the back of my head, my edges retreated, I was balding... it was a sttuggle, and my mom wasn't using the correct products either...(Edit:Currently my hair is like past my shoulders, I used to be bald... the thing is, when I lived in Jamaica the sakon did my hair fine but when I came to Ameeica, sisters fucked up my hair and made me go bald)
my mom is the only person who braids my hair, it hurts at first bc she has to pull it which makes my head sore, but after a day or two the soreness goes away, the last time i went to a salon the lady kept getting the brush stuck in my hair, smh
I feel like a little bit of pain is definitely guaranteed when getting braids, sew ins or cornrows. I mean the hair stylist has to make it tight enough so that the weave doesn't fall out the minute you try flipping your hair but at the same time not too tight. I get braids every winter as a protective style for my natural hair and the first couple days the braids hurt a little but after like 3-4 days I was fine.
I preach this all the time. I went to cosmetology in a predominantly all black school with a Jamaican teacher and I learned so much about braids. I can't do it to save my life, my fingers just won't cooperate lol but I have seen and heard some terrible horror stories!
It's not that hard to see that they're just complimenting her, gd. My boyfriend loves a scar I have on my forehead. That doesn't mean he's not aware that I had to fall and bust open my head to get it. Also like. Do you think they just, didn't listen to the video at all lmao??? She do look so so good tho.
@@kelsiday2084 😂😂 did you watch the video? That woman was hurt but has risen above the situation unlike you! Also the first comment read like a back handed complement so I reached out and no response. Oh, well. Looks like someone else shouldn't assume someone is being messy when they aren't. 😝
Okay, I'm not the suing crazy type. But the reason I think she should sue is because this may happen to other girls. By not doing anything, she is endorsing the malpractice. Sometimes suing isn't about getting money, it's about helping others.
So true. Suing isn't just about money it's about bringing attention to the malpractice that happened so that potential clients and employers are warned.
Jewlia Conley The stylist needs to be fired. She sewed in the weave too tightly then, after being told about her own negligence, didn’t offer an apology or compensation, she instead tried to blame her client for “leaving the weave in for too long.” Fun fact, you can leave your weave in for a pretty long while. It may cause tension alopecia. It may cause matting. It should not ever cause your hair to fall out and your follicles to combine into one unified follicle on the back of your head.
She probably wasn’t a licensed stylist working for a company so it may be hard to get a suit on her. That’s the thing about the black/African hair community. We’re only just now learning how to care for our hair and it will probably take another decade before natural hair care and styling is part of mainstream cosmetology. It’s sucks but it’s safer for people to do there own hair, keep it natural in color, texture, and length until kinky hair becomes part of the “norm”.
I'm in awe of that first girl. Her attitude is amazing! She's lucky she's so beautiful and can pull off a bald head. She's definitely beautiful on the inside and out. I pray that this will not be a permanent problem and that she will be able to grow out her hair.
Her hair has started growing back. They even stated she tweezed the hairs that were clustered together out. She even visited a dermatologist and got some products to help the growth out. She really took everything so well. When I have more than just the tips cut off my hair at the salon I get so upset so I cannot imagine having this happen to me.
Cristal Y. Villanueva oh my gosh that's so good to hear. I wish her the best honestly. I can't imagine having such tight braids I get a headache from a ponytail like damn
That’s crazy how calm and positive she is about it I truly would have fought like it’s just hair but still that girl almost destroyed her scalp not just a bad haircut
Sylvia Porter Tbh she should lose her license. Even if the girl didn’t wanna go through suing her, she shouldn’t be able to legally do hair anymore. Imagine how many people she’s done that to or will do that to in the future
@@Kat-qr7hv most people in the black community don't have licenses to do hair. It's more like a hustle or another way to make money. If uk how to do hair people will pay you to get their hair done. So legally nothing would've worked but she still should've sued giving others a fair warning not to go to her.💯
Kay Ji fuck even just using it on other clients without washing (I’ve seen clients with HUGE infected puss pockets) and I can see a stylist not thoroughly cleansing/disinfecting their tools. Especially in the black community which SO much extra care is needed.

Natural hair horror stories has some wild stories about sew ins getting infected and sending people to the ER; definitely worth checking out. Awesome video; live your extra life!
I watched a video on her channel. She said the lady who did her hair gave her pain pills before she did it and she didn't feel any pain until the next day after she got it done.
I learned there is a huge difference between knowing how to style hair (do hair) and taking care of the hair. I know lots of salons that make money from unhealthy hair. Not caring for it but just makes it worse with these damaging styles and chemicals.
The hairdresser who ruined the first woman's hair should be sued!! And to have the audacity to give the fault on the client and try to make them feel guilty when it's her fault...She should have her licence taken away.
Hey I was thinking maybe doctor pimple popper could help you with your damaged pores! You should reach out to her! I bet she would know what to do to make them grow individually again.
You need to get that place shut down, what they did to you is a crime, it's uneithical, they put you in medical danger, they physically scarred you. Out these people, they did wrong, not you. They should have known better, not you, you are the customer, they are the licensed hairdressers, it is their job to know better, not yours. Report them, they violated way too many safety&health codes and deserve to have their license taken away. Tell me what state you're in and I'll try to see if I can find you a phone number to call/application link to file an official complaint to the Department of Consumer Affairs.
She is so lucky she didn't get traction alopecia. When you get your hair braided too tight a lot, it goes from a protective style for natural texture to an actual nightmare. Traction alopecia makes you go permanently bald. I honestly would have sued that hairdresser, because what she did made her have permanent damage to her scalp and could have made her go bald.
It's so hard to find someone I can trust with my now waist length kinky curly hair. I literally trust no one but my mom. No "professional" is touching my head for the foreseeable future.
Girl. I feel you! I Just had to cut mine because of a bad etae experience from a salon! Never again will I let anyone touch my hair again. My natural hair was shoulder length when I big chopped. Not happy at all!
I work at a hair salon as an apprentice and luckily both the current stylists have made sure to widen their range of customers and the range of hair types they can work on because both of them hate it when people don’t get what they deserve from ‘qualified’ professionals. The elder, more experienced stylist actually has mixed race children with Afro hair and when her daughter decided that she wanted to try a new salon so she wasn’t relying on her mom her hair got ruined- she has a bald spot on her right side that hair still struggles to grow on. She’s stuck with certain styles to hide it. A weird tip I’ve been told by a customer when looking for new salons is find their Facebook page, look at who’s reviewed, recommended or liked it and look at the profile pictures of the people and see if they have a wide range of ethnicities in their clientele(that have given good reviews etc.). A client told me that’s what she did to find the salon I’m training at and that it was the best thing she could’ve done. Hope this is helpful advice for those struggling to find a stylist that isn’t all talk and won’t wreck their hair
Chi - I just watched it.what she said about the dermatologist made me think it wasn't permanent , but when she showed the hair growth pictures the scar was still visible so I don't know (still it's great that her hair is growing out well)
Hairdressers are so sensitive that you as a client cant even tell them that your hair is hurting or you dislike something, until something like this happens!
91clasSick I know right! I’m training to be a stylist and whenever someone is my model for an assessment or just a client I always say ‘don’t be scared that I’m going to be upset if you hate it or if your scalp is hurting- you’re the important one here and it’s vital you’re happy with your look’ because the amount of times I personally have hated what someone’s done but said I liked it because they were gonna whine if I didn’t is ridiculous. Also I’ve had dye cause an allergic reaction on my scalp and honestly PLEASE TELL SOMEONE IF IT HURTS because your health is more important than how your hair looks. If stylists aren’t going to bother putting in extra effort to please customers and make them look their best then they shouldn’t be stylists.
lala2308 that’s insane, is your scalp okay now? Did your stylist bother with a skin test beforehand or telling you beforehand that pain isn’t normal? If not then I’m sorry you had to go through that. You must be a great actress because I can’t believe she couldn’t tell from your body language and facial expression that you’re clearly uncomfortable. I hope your hair and scalp have completely recovered
Shelby Lintern ty for doing that. I left my last girl after she freaked out at me when I told her that wasn’t what I wanted... she ended up doing it anyways and I ended up crying in my car. lol yeah, never again.
I know right?? I got a perm when I was 10, and they left it on my head to the point I could feel it burning my scalp. Me, being a kid, I started crying. This woman tells me to stop whining, and proceeds to pour soda on my head...please explain the use of soda on my head...
When I've seen 1st girls back of the head I literally felt nauseous and screamed 😭😭😭😭the person who did this to her just gotta take the responsibility for the damage
forget 'not bashing' someone. The first girl needs to say who that hair dresser was who did the sew in so other people know NOT to go to her. Thats so wrong.
i am glad she made this video at all though so people know how it can go terribly wrong at least. i didn't know that. but yeah, saying who did this would not be bashing.
That could lead her to some legal trouble, tho, even if it was the other girls fault. I'm not sure if it will or not, but i know saying peoples names in negative way can lead to stronger consequences
Hey girl, you're brave! Thank you for sharing your story. I think sew in weaves need to stop. I always see girls crying from how painful it is. I 100% support natural hair, and you do you, and you're pretty.
On one hand I wish people would just spend the money it takes to have a professional do whatever to their hair, on the other hand I’m glad that they show us their messy journeys because it gives us hours of entertainment with Brad walking us through it all 😂
Being black, I can't exactly "trust" professionals because almost none of them know how to do afro textured hair. So no matter how much money I spend, it's going to be difficult for those like me.
Mind Flowers No, that is not true. In the black community, you can't trust someone because they have your hair or say that they "specialize" in it because any person with type 4 hair knows that our hair is difficult to manage and we're usually charged an extra fee because of it. I have only 1 stylist that I can honestly go to without worrying, but I have to pay like $150-$350.
MITCHELL WIGGS, that first video the girl who did the weaves is a professional hairdresser, she also works at a salon!! go watch the video on her channel, its hard breaking!!
So many black women unfortunately have hair and scalp damage, in many cases permanent, because there's still not enough information in the community. We aren't usually taught how to care for our hair and scalps like so many nonblack women are from birth. So many of us grew up with high heat and harsh chemicals on our heads, way-too-tight styles, fake hair or other people's hair put on top of our own, it's really messed up.
Sounds messed up. People should embrace their natural hair more. I use semi-permanent hair dye but wouldn't wear tight braids, weaves or wigs. It's easy for me to talk as I have easy maintenance straight hair and I've heard afro hair is hard to take care of.
Vanessa G Afro hair isn't more difficult, black people just aren't taught how to care for our hair from birth, we're instead taught to hate it and see it as a challenge to overcome. Comments like yours illustrate perfectly the stigma attached to afro hair. How can black people embrace their hair when everyone else reaffirms the belief that the hair is a problem just for existing?
Vanessa G Easy for you to say when you aren’t part of the black community and your hair lacks curls. We wear braids and sew ins as protective styles for our natural hair because our natural hair needs protection. It’s really easy for you to say when your hair is pin straight.
@@pastelpepe she had already pointed out that "that's easy for me to say ect" no need to bag on her when she is attempting to be understanding of harder to manage hair types. Calm down Ms. Velocaraptor.
A lot of "ancient queens" actually weren't all that "beautiful".. For example cleopatra was nothing like she has been portrayed - she has been portrayed by MEN as being ridiculously beautiful to severely down play her political and intellectual intelligence and power- basically men have written history about her to imply she only ever had power bc she was so beautiful that her beauty seduced the men and then those men gave her her power- which is far from true (she had a lot of power bc of her intellect and extreme fortune and had she not politically made ridiculously smart moves and combined with the Romans, the Romans wouldn't have had their reign of domination last). It has been proven via ancient coins that many would consider her "ugly" today ... She was a woman who fought against discrimination to claim the throne as a woman in a mans position... Image doing all that she did without favor of the people (who of course eventually got behind her bc she was an amazing leader who cared about her people)
Those of you wondering about the girl with scalp damage, she posted two videos showing updates on the situation. She also answers many of the questions you guys are asking here. Their channel is called C&D Journey 🙂

I legit thought her girlfriends finger was going to go inside of her scalp! 😭 I've recently shaved my head, but if I saw that I would've cried soooooo much! 😩😭
Oh heeeelll no, that hair dresser would find herself in a lawsuit so fast if that was what her response was! Incredibly rude to blame it on the client!
Omg, I saw the first one not too long ago, and nearly cried for this poor woman! Her poor scalp is SEVERELY scarred. Unfortunately, this stuff happens to a LOT of African American women. I watch one channel where the influencer reads natural hair disasters and it's so sad and awful. I cannot imagine the pain that these women who's hair is braided THAT TIGHT, go through! I'm happy this beautiful woman isn't too bothered by it...but I still feel so sorry for her. I hope and pray that one day, her scalp will return to normal.
Crystal R omg really? Now I understand why most dark skinned americans are so picky about what person gives them sew ins, they mostly go to their own kind who also wears them but if it can damage the head that bad I would also be picky
Very true, not enough hair stylist know how to do black women's hair properly even if the dresser is black themselves and this is the result. So unbelievable.
Part of it is this belief that the braids must be tight and if it hurts you just endure it because it’s normal. Which is so wrong your braids should not be painful.
I mean honestly, her hair's really bleached. If she shampooes it like twice it'll lighten up a ton. ...I may also be a snob about arctic fox. Special Effects all the way XD
Ambaa Choate I agree!! Especially because like someone else said.. she can just wash hair hair and it’ll fade. It’s such an easy “fix” for something that’s not even broken :(

If someone braided my hair that tight and it did that to me I would be the person to say “BISH ILL SEE YOU IN COURRRT”
Yeah because she could have gone and sued the lady

Summer Garcia they were jealous of her😀👍
I agree, she definitely worthy of general :)

I found her channel she made a full recovery her scalp actually did heal and regain normalcy and she does have hair growing properly and evenly again! Good news as this was a year ago I’m so happy it was able to heal entirely and beautifully. She had a happy ending thank goodness and is still gorgeous

just an fyi to any girl getting a sew in weave, or just getting you're hair braided in general weither you are black, white or whatever, (esp to white girls, since this might not be as common knowledge as it is to black girls) if someone braids youre hair it should not hurt at all, if your are in any type of pain, you need to tell your hair dresser right then and there. Some hair dressers will claim "this will make your braids last longer, because of the grip", girl no if your hair gets braided to tight, it will fall out, and you will go bald. If your hair dresser does not loosen her grip, or if she tries to justify the pain you are in, you need to get up, take your money and leave.
Kimberlee Ponson I'm a San Diegan too! Definitely will be avoiding that salon!

But she has already learned by you telling her what happened. Suing her might get the stylist fired and that's not exactly great either...
It’s not from one hair style it’s from years of braids and weaves
I'm in awe of that first girl. Her attitude is amazing! She's lucky she's so beautiful and can pull off a bald head. She's definitely beautiful on the inside and out. I pray that this will not be a permanent problem and that she will be able to grow out her hair.

Cristal Y. Villanueva what’s her UA-cam
Whoever braided that woman’s head should never be allowed to touch someone’s hair again. That could be considered torture omg.
Sylvia Porter Tbh she should lose her license. Even if the girl didn’t wanna go through suing her, she shouldn’t be able to legally do hair anymore. Imagine how many people she’s done that to or will do that to in the future
Kat my thoughts exactly://
Kat she didn’t have a license. In the original video she said that she got her hair done by some lady at her house
Especially in the black community which SO much extra care is needed.

bruhhh if you need to give your clients painkillers for them to be able to stand your braiding, you're doing something wrong
I learned there is a huge difference between knowing how to style hair (do hair) and taking care of the hair. I know lots of salons that make money from unhealthy hair. Not caring for it but just makes it worse with these damaging styles and chemicals.

She is so lucky she didn't get traction alopecia. When you get your hair braided too tight a lot, it goes from a protective style for natural texture to an actual nightmare. Amen, sis! No one's touching these kinks and coils. I don't even trust myself sometimes
I was horrified with this video. I couldn't believe the damage to her scalp after the hair weave

I have never been afraid to tell a stylist I don’t like it. I’m never rude. I just tell them what I would prefer or what I want them to change.
lala2308 that’s insane, is your scalp okay now? Did your stylist bother with a skin test beforehand or telling you beforehand that pain isn’t normal? If not then I’m sorry you had to go through that. You must be a great actress because I can’t believe she couldn’t tell from your body language and facial expression that you’re clearly uncomfortable. I hope your hair and scalp have completely recovered
Shelby Lintern ty for doing that. I left my last girl after she freaked out at me when I told her that wasn’t what I wanted... she ended up doing it anyways and I ended up crying in my car. lol yeah, never again.

forget 'not bashing' someone. The first girl needs to say who that hair dresser was who did the sew in so other people know NOT to go to her. Thats so wrong.
I was thinking that. If it was me I'd make it so public making sure nobody goes through the same thing
i am glad she made this video at all though so people know how it can go terribly wrong at least. i didn't know that. but yeah, saying who did this would not be bashing.

On one hand I wish people would just spend the money it takes to have a professional do whatever to their hair, on the other hand I’m glad that they show us their messy journeys because it gives us hours of entertainment with Brad walking us through it all 😂
MITCHELL WIGGS wasn't the girl who did that a professional?
Being black, I can't exactly "trust" professionals because almost none of them know how to do afro textured hair. So no matter how much money I spend, it's going to be difficult for those like me.
The Messy Natural can't you go to a professional who has hair like you or specializes in your hair type though?

DarkLadyJade my 4c hair is definitely more challenging than average European/ Asian hair. Just the way it is.

The gal w/ the shaved ‘do looks like an ancient Goddess/Queen. It’s a badass look on her. 👑
Image doing all that she did without favor of the people (who of course eventually got behind her bc she was an amazing leader who cared about her people)
If i was that first girl i would sue the girl that did my hair

Or they could wear a wig
Very true, not enough hair stylist know how to do black women's hair properly even if the dresser is black themselves and this is the result. So unbelievable.
Part of it is this belief that the braids must be tight and if it hurts you just endure it because it’s normal. Which is so wrong your braids should not be painful.
The pink haired girl should have used Cotton Candy Pink by Manic Panic. Would have looked more like Jigglypuff. It still came out pretty though :)
She also could have just put conditioner in it to dilute it
