    Fast forward 11 years we have tech more accessible, but these things back in the day were a lifesaver on long road trips.
    How times have changed now we’ve got this entire device right in our pocket + more 🤯
    Found a set at thrift store for $5 had to pick them up haha

    Sometimes electronics, it can be a real hit and miss. Luckily mine is still working to this day. We just came back from a 4 day trip with the kids and its just as good as the day I got it.

    The slave unit has one 3.5mm AV IN jack with 4 conductors. It's like the one you find on a headphone but with 4 conductors on it for the video and audio. So it depends if your DSLR has that type of dongle.

    After viewing this video and reading lots of the reviews below, I went out and purchased this. Let me tell you, IT IS NIIIICE!!!!! We had a 7" model we bought a few years back. It kept messing up so bad, we had to get a new one. Since this is basically the same one, set up was a breeze. Even so, it's easy if you never owned one. I have a van, and the larger 9" screen sits perfectly on the handle just below the headrest. (I do what others do, and strap it on the metal bars btwn the headrest and the seat.) I keep the main player btwn the 2 front seats so I can easily work it for my 4yr old. 3 yrs ago, we paid $99. for the 7". For this one, I paid $108. Not a bad upgrade for a few bucks more, a few years later. I love the clear LCD screen. If you find it cheaper, good for you!!! Worth every penny whatever you pay. You wont regret it....

    I don't know about the Sylvania, but I have no problem with the audio volume when used in a running vehicle with all the ambient noise. I usually set it to 1/2 to 3/4 volume when driving on the highway. My kids never complain. Before this, I did have a single portable 9" flip up player and that one was barely loud enough. You also have option for headphone jacks on this one.

  • @dial2fast
    @dial2fast  11 років тому

    I use it 2-3 times a month depending on where I am going with the kids. Still working to this day. I tuck all the wires neatly away so the kids won't walk all over them. Both screens work and sound fine.

    Here's a tip. We have a 2015 highlander and the head rests are angled like you were saying you thought would be an issue. We just tightened the buckle around the raised metal post portion instead of the headrest pad. That way the strap doesn't ruin the leather or touch our heads, the screen is level for the kids, and the void between the head and head rest allows for tucking the excess strap in. Cheers!

      do have question sir ... can we use inbulid music system with these units or it only works with iphone ipad or ipod..

  • @dial2fast
    @dial2fast  12 років тому

    No problem. It has an anti-skip buffer built in. Never skips.

  • @dial2fast
    @dial2fast  11 років тому

    My kids don't wear headphones also, and having those players right behind your head, you willl hear the audio playing but I wouldn't say its irritatingly loud. Our minivan actually has factory audio mode where we can turn off the rear speakers, so we can listen to our own music. Sometimes we just turn off the radio. It might sound boring but it's a small price to pay for their peace and quiet.

  • @dial2fast
    @dial2fast  11 років тому

    If you have a power socket near your third row then it's no problem. But the power cord should be long enough to go from front cigarette lighter to your second row seats. My concern with wires stringing from front to back is make sure your kids don't accidentally kick and rip it off the unit and damaging it.
    As for the interconnectioin between the 2 units, they must be mounted side by side as that AV cable won't reach between first row to second row.

  • @jeffmayeux1692
    @jeffmayeux1692 9 років тому +2

    Great video really appreciate the time that you took to review the unit. My question is the viewing from the third row seat if mounted behind the driver seat. Planning a trip with the kids and was just wondering if the volume and viewing angles from the back seat would be adequate for the rear passengers. I appreciate your response in advance.

    You will enjoy having this on a long ride. If you kids are too small to work the player's front button, you should take a minute to know where the Play button is so you don't struggle with it while driving. I wish it had a remote.

    Just found an UNOPENED box of these from 2013. It's a dual player set where either unit can feed the other or independent. Hope they work well on our trip. (Over 20 hours with a 4 and 6 year old.

    The master unit does not have an AV input, it only has an AV output to the slave unit. So technically you can plug the PS2 in the slave unit but not both.

    I bought it at Target during black Friday sale. Regular was $180, and I got it on sale for $100.

  • @dial2fast
    @dial2fast  12 років тому

    I see what you trying to do but most likely won't work with the length of cable being too short. It's really more for side to side mount and not front and back. Even if you somehow got it to fit, you will have to becareful will tripping over the wires.

    Very helpful UA-cam clip!
    Few years back I had the 1st one - Nextar DVD Player MP007. Solid unit. The headrest mounting bracket very very good and the 2nd screen was gone after 3 1/2 years used. The 2nd one is Sylvania 7" Dual-screen Portable DVD Player. It's not good at all. No resume on power loss. Keep start over over again every time stop for gas, coffee....Now I'm looking for 3rd one prepare for long trip vacation on next month after kids school over. Hopefully this one is best! Thanks

    Great video! Very comprehensive. Really appreciate it! Answered all the questions I had but one and that is the height and width of the actual units...even though, seeing them on the headrests gave me a good idea of how they'd fir on my vehicle.

  • @dial2fast
    @dial2fast  11 років тому

    Keep in mind you will have to connect that 3.5mm cable to the headphone jack out of either the master or the slave unit. If you must use the headphone simultaneously, then you can also buy a 3.5mm splitter off ebay for cheap.

    @shortdom107 Well I have left it in the car since I got it. My plan is to leave it once it's mounted. I know the car goes through some extreme hot and cold in winter and summer but I would assume they were designed with this type of tolerance. Guess time will tell and fingers crossed.

    you did a great job on the video! Do most of the portable DVDs for in car charge through the cigarette lighter? I'm buying a 2016 vehicle and I'm not sure if it comes with the cigarette lighter plug is there another way to power it up? Does it have a long battery life so that I don't have to run the wires or is that the only way to run it? Thank you

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  8 років тому +1

      +alottamommy These DVD players don't have rechargeable batteries. They just get power from the car and operate with car's battery power. All cars have cigarette lighter plug.

    I have these TV's and my headrest tilts forward (2010 Scion xB) what I did to solve that problem was I strapped the straps in between the headrest and seat. So its strapped to the 2 silver prongs that pop out the headrest and go into the seat. This makes it a much more secure fit and the T.V. straps do not bother my head or the comfort of my headrest.

    Hi - Thanks for this review! How is the length of the cord connecting the two devices? I want to have the main unit attached to the driver seat (so I can reach and manage it from the front seat), and then have the secondary unit attached to one of the middle seats of the van on the passenger side. Are they generous with the length of the cord to connect the two - or am I restricted to having them connected in the same row?

    • @dial2fast

      The AV cord from one unit to the other is 5' long. It won't be long enough to go from one row to another.

    I had the Slyvania and it stopped working. I did like the fact that it has a battery and a slot to install card from camera to look at photos. But the real reason to have these are for use in the car. Since Slyvania stopped working, I will try the Phillips and see how well they last. The other issue with the Slyvania is they had the worst velcro straps to attach to headrest. From what I see on the video, Phillips straps look better.

      Wiggle the connector on the Cig-Lighter end as the contacts are quite rubbish on many cars. Also inside that end, there is a fuse. Take that apart carfully, over a towl so anything that falls out can be found easily.
