    1:00 Fun facts about the other 3 types that he didn’t mention:
    Green one with a jigsaw piece: suitable for kids in kindergarten age above 3
    One with the smiley face: for kids age above 6
    These two are only for kids shows (or sometimes they just use the house one)
    The scary one with lightning bolt sign: only for adults
    This one is extremely rare. I can’t even remember what kind of show has this sign(as a Thai person) Even the TV dramas with scariest scenes don’t have this sign(and there’s lots of times when they don’t even care and put the “suitable for all ages” sign for those show👁👄👁)

      @leilatimeful 2 роки тому +20

      Similarly, if you’re a resident expat, what price do you pay? In Morocco, listed prices for things like entrance fees are the same for tourists and Moroccans, but in-city taxis and artisan shops will often charge tourists a lot more (especially in Marrakech). I have to speak to people in Arabic and show that I know what it should actually cost before they give me the real price. Once they find out I live in Morocco and get paid in durhams not dollars, suddenly things get cheaper. 😁

    I think every language class should have a section on how to move your tongue and mouth to reproduce sounds! It is really important since not all languages use the same movement and it can really change a sound! So I am really grateful that you include it in your "learning thai" videos. It is really helpfull.

      (I'm French too)
      I've been learning Thai with the Assimil method (and old book from the public library, it's from 1990 and comes with 3 CDs 😁).
      Well, I find that I sound the closest to the CD (and series) when I place my lips and mouth the way Gun does... It looked kind of funny to me, especially in NOT ME The Series, because it looks like he articulates a lot, but that's what gives me the best results 😅

Though it may have changed now. I still think that the pronounciation part of languages classes is seriously understated from primary to high school in my country. It's only in my linguistic class I took in college that the way to correctly move our mouth and tongue influences the pronounciation was taught. It wasn't even in the regular English class. You've done everything right. You explained problem sounds, including tongue placement which is what makes the difference between sounds. The rolling "r" sound is actually easy for me since I learned spanish years ago (though I am now unable to speak it since I am way out of practice) and it is the same sound almost. And the "tor" is also easier since the placement of the tongue is similar to what I do naturally. (maybe cause my first language is french?). The tones are what I struggle a bit more with. The languages I am most familiar with don't have tones so it's harder to understand and practice. Usually tones in the languages I know are to convey an emotion or irony or something similar, it isn't used the same way and it is harder to detect and imitate for me.

      It is good to practice English with your family, but to expand your knowledge I reccommend wathing tv shows, listening to podcasts and/or radioshows, reading it and talking to native speakers. That is how my skill in English improved after I left school and didn't have classes anymore. I became much more fluent too.
      I actually learned some korean, japanese, mandarin and thai from watching series too. It is weird to assimilate languages simply by watching tv, but also really neat.

    Oh my, a truly original, clever BL video - of course from the one and only Perth, our learned, observant, and witty guide and teacher. It is the mark of every fan of Thai BL that we know these phonemes - by heart - in our sleep. And now the Master finally reveals to us exactly what the sounds are, what they stand for, what they mean. And we know his learning will be worn lightly, the whole of the lesson brightened by his radiant smile.

      Lol that’s the basic songs every Thai knows, we grown up with them. Mostly used in school, university’s events, especially sport and orientation events. Kinda like a way of entertaining and let us be assertive. Actually you can briefly see a person’s personality when someone make them dance to those songs lmao, just judging by their expression/reaction.

    I sang for years in Australia in a large symphonic choir which performed some of the great classical choral works. We rolled the "r" in English, Latin and German, but it was always a strong sound. Thanks, Perth, for explaining the soft Thai sound. You do it well. On another note (no pun intended) I, like others, always say Raikantopeni when that message appears on the screen.
