So it’s amazing to see some content that begins to highlight our complex and often hidden history. We are survivors of 529 years of ongoing colonization. These stories and the many my peoples other writings and oral history will be passed down to my children. They will know who they are and they will not be deprived of their identities like so many were sadly and horribly forced to do by way of the cross and the sword. Purhepechas eat lots of wild mushrooms. Many of them are delicious!. There is a small town where they have a mushroom featival like. People cook a variety of mushrooms base dishes that visitors can buy and enjoy. The name of the town is Yuriscopio or something like that. The town have very difficult names to pronounce!.

The same thing appeared to my moms uncle one day in southern México when he was sent by my great grandma to gather leña ( fire wood) but he was lazy and slept on this rock leaning on it. So it appeared to him and chased him. He told everyone else that it floated and screamed and no matter how fast he ran it kept up with him.

Tepehuanes, Irritila, Zacatecos and the Tarahumara are all in the region I believe. So I was trying to look for any information. I don't know if you have anything on your page
@@NotoriousTorres we are one of the few tribes that never got conquered by the Aztecs and the ones who invented corn also were the only mesoamerican culture to use metal and trade metal weapons Purepecha people are amongst the best in copper smithing and had a complex building technique the dialect is unlike others in Mexico some say we came from the Zuni tribe others from the Inca wee are known as the star people for that very reason

I was born in Los Reyes Michoacán, Mexico I was brought to the USA at age 5 met my parents for the first time as i was being raised by my grandparents from my dads side. They my grand parents the ones alive now have no knowledge or forgot name of tribes /language so I am doing the best I can to trace as much as I can it is a challenge but I will continue to do research as I want to truly connect to my roots to relearned what was forgotten. Unless they migrated into Michoacan from another area, I'd say it's highly likely, almost a guarantee. You probably have some Mexica or Otomi in there, too.
I took an ancestry DNA test too, and it shows iam 52% indigenous Mexico, I don't know my specific tribe though....iam also 38% Spaniard & 4% African.....my family in Mexico hail from Nuevo Leon, Mexico ... Monterrey areas

My family is from Cheran Michoacán a purepecha community where they got rid of the cartels and are automous from the government I never was taught purepecha but my family do speak it and I’m planning to learn once I go back to my parents home town
You know, I would love to do a show on that community. I heard about it when I was down in Michoacan back in 2015. I think you should go back and immerse yourself. It will be great for your soul.

I was about 8 to 9 years old in Sahauyo, Mexico. If im not mistaken i believe this tribe ruled that area. Anyways, its where my father's side of the family is from and we carry their blood. To make the story short, i couldnt sleep for some reason and i was drawn to look outside. It was outside on a wall that i saw the shadows of Native Americans dancing around a fire (the fire had a shadow too, which is not normal) and i could hear faint music and singing. I never felt scared or anything similar. Almost felt like it was calling me... Just my little story.

my parents are from cocucho michocuan which is where they speak the language purepecha and i have visited where they grew up and i love it and yes i know and understand the language 😂🔥🥰🥰
Both sides of my family and I were born in cuanajo michoacan were Purepecha, my grandparents tells me stories of their grandparents and ancestors that were passed down and speak to me in purepecha I don't speak it but I understand it, I'm in the process of speaking it
I was born in Michoacan. I took a DNA test and I am 62% Purhépecha. Its cool how the aztecs where trying to invade the purhépecha empire but could not and kept getting their ass kicked and dominated by the purhépechas. Its wild to think that even amongst the natives in Mexico they all have a different genetic makeup and the DNA test could pin point and trace my genetics exactly to the purhépechas and not the aztecs. Almost if like they where a different race. Growing up Chicago I never had a chance to learn about non of this now I am super excited to keep learning more!
Well, it's like making the differentiation between French and Spanish DNA. Those peoples border each other, but are distinct. As far as the Purepecha go, they are somewhat of a mystery because they are a linguistic isolate and no one knows exactly where they came from. Some theorize they came up from South America as refugees skirting along the coast until they made permanent landfall in Mexico. When I was a student in Mexico I lived in Morelia and I've been going back to Michoachan over the last 25 years for my business. You should be rightfully proud to be from such a place. I miss it. Well first off, we are called Purépecha. Tarascan was used as a slur against us by the Spanish. And if you want to find out how indigenous you are and from what tribe because there is multiple in Mich, I suggest asking your parents, grandparents, or even better grandparents :)

I was born in Morelia but i know my dad came from another part of michoacan, but I cant remember where. Many families relocated and it's very difficult to find any records from the past.

I just asked my mom because she actually grew up around it because her great grandfather was purépecha and would play their music around the house so she was able to teach me and inform me on the culture. I don’t know what you can do I’m sorry. I’m assuming your parents don’t know. Keep in mind it’s possible you don’t really have much indigenous blood in you which is okay. Our people were colonized by the Europeans. They r4ped and took our women and children. But we are still here. So you most definitely have it in your blood could be a lot could be a little but it’s there but you may not be from the Purépecha tribe. DNA tests won’t necessarily work either. Yes it will say you have this much indigenous blood but it won’t tell you from what tribe. I’m sorry I can’t help much

Im Purechechas/ Tarascos. There are two types of Purepechas. The language in each tribe is different. One Purepecha talk with a English accent. The other purepechas talk "normal" pure because they ran away from English people. We never got concurred fro. Aztecs. We are Indigenous. Our tribe doesn't allow outsiders into our tribe or home. I ran away since I was 16. Tribes can be repulsive if u don't follow the rules.
Even and especially the ancients were able to easily observe both solar and lunar cycles and see that eclipses have nothing to do with the lunar & solar bodies crossing paths.

Both of those towns have Purepecha names, so they were most likely founded by them. Do a deep internet search. I am sure there is plenty of information about those places out there. To know your "Indian name" you would probably have to go back 500 years and this would be impossible. "Fugiwara" sounds Japanese to me, not Spanish.

Interesting, my dad is full blooded Perpetua, and my mom is 3 quarters Hispanic and a quarter Aztec. My dad never wanted me to learn Spanish because the Spaniards invaded Mexico and its not his native language.

There are beautiful geometric designs on pottery that would make wonderful tattoos. Just search "Tarascan Pottery" or "Purepecha Pottery" and you can come up with some images. Let your heart guide you the rest of the way.

My father and his people are from Pedernales, Michoacan. My Ancestry DNA say’s I am Indigenous Mexican, I assume this is my people.

@@lexiv.7227 don't get Aztec symbols, they were the enemy of the purepecha. Their capital was named after hummingbirds, if that helps. Tzintzuntzan.

I don’t know if I am Tarascan but, I was born in Michoacán
Well first off, we are called Purépecha. Tarascan was used as a slur against us by the Spanish. And if you want to find out how indigenous you are and from what tribe because there is multiple in Mich, I suggest asking your parents, grandparents, or even better grandparents :)
@@ranch_bird5569 its not that easy, my grandparents except from my grandmother from my dads side have passed away. I was born in Morelia but i know my dad came from another part of michoacan, but I cant remember where. Many families relocated and it's very difficult to find any records from the past.
@@MrSlip310 well I’m very sorry for your losses. I wasn’t trying to be rude I was just saying that’s the best way. I mean my great grandparents are dead so i couldn’t ask them either :/. I just asked my mom because she actually grew up around it because her great grandfather was purépecha and would play their music around the house so she was able to teach me and inform me on the culture. I don’t know what you can do I’m sorry. I’m assuming your parents don’t know. Keep in mind it’s possible you don’t really have much indigenous blood in you which is okay. Our people were colonized by the Europeans. They r4ped and took our women and children. But we are still here. So you most definitely have it in your blood could be a lot could be a little but it’s there but you may not be from the Purépecha tribe. DNA tests won’t necessarily work either. Yes it will say you have this much indigenous blood but it won’t tell you from what tribe. I’m sorry I can’t help much

Im Purechechas/ Tarascos. There are two types of Purepechas. The language in each tribe is different. One Purepecha talk with a English accent. The other purepechas talk "normal" pure because they ran away from English people. We never got concurred fro. Aztecs. We are Indigenous. Our tribe doesn't allow outsiders into our tribe or home. I ran away since I was 16. Tribes can be repulsive if u don't follow the rules.

I'd say the likelihood of your ancestors being Purepecha is close to 100%.

Both of those towns have Purepecha names, so they were most likely founded by them. Do a deep internet search. I am sure there is plenty of information about those places out there. To know your "Indian name" you would probably have to go back 500 years and this would be impossible. "Fugiwara" sounds Japanese to me, not Spanish.

Interesting, my dad is full blooded Perpetua, and my mom is 3 quarters Hispanic and a quarter Aztec. My dad never wanted me to learn Spanish because the Spaniards invaded Mexico and its not his native language.
My dad also said we are from hebrew descendants. Came from ships of far away.
Do you know of any symbols or patterns used by these people. I’m researching my heritage and where my blood line comes from and I tracked it all the way back to Michoacán, I want to get a tattoo to show appreciation and to tell a story. I would love it if you could contact me with symbols or patterns used by these people!
There are beautiful geometric designs on pottery that would make wonderful tattoos. Just search "Tarascan Pottery" or "Purepecha Pottery" and you can come up with some images. Let your heart guide you the rest of the way.

Conquest. There are hundreds of thousands of Tarascans still living in Mexico, many of them still speaking their native language and living a traditional lifestyle. So, no genocide. Far from it.

The aztec cities were superior to any spanish buildings.
