    Note: if you aren’t seeing the grass appear, it is likely your preview settings. It does not render in performance mode, but it will render in sessions if you need a definitive test.

    *I know a fix to the grass not popping up!* In your outliner on the right, Select every *"LandscapeStreamingProxy" piece* that's in your map *(Hold down Ctrl or Shift when selecting)* , then go to *Details* and put the Material you made into the *"Landscape Material" Slot.* This should fix everyone's issue.

    I feel like you so underrated bro, you're helping me a lot with these tutorials, your content is so unique because I search for a lot of these things and can't find them anywhere but you're the only one I found who is doing these tutorials, so congrats for that :)
    And i wanted to make you a question, do you have any idea on how to change the texture of rivers or lakes? Im trying to make a swamp but the default lakes are super blue and im looking for something more greenish

      @@benjah6435 changing the skylight intensity option in the day sequence device can make the water look darker or lighter maybe you could try that

      I would try the visual effects @blakjack mentioned. You can place them in a 3D volume.
      and also Try chatgpt 3.5 (OpenAI.com for free) and *meta prompting* to make yourself a learning assistant or professor level tutor that can fetch data from the UEFN documentation on epics website, explain each question to you in any Level of Detail and Ultimately help you learn more optimally if you can communicate effectively and/or use *meta promting*

    With weight blending it averages out any conjoining layers so if you have 2 layers in the same spot it will be a 50/50 split. 3 layers would be 33/33/33 etc

    ty so much this was super clear and it never felt too fast or slow. the only thing that i was frustrated about is that you didn't include how to add color to the grass at the very end of the video or even mention if it was possible, which I'm sure it is.

      If anyone wants a solution... create another layer without the grass node...then just use that layer when painting to clear out any grass

    This was a pretty good and digestible tutorial, but I had a question. Whenever I add an additional paint layer and try using it, the game does not know how to blend all 3 layers together, and causes the selected landscape quadrant to become untextured. I was wondering if you knew a way to have more than 2 paints in use together at once (much like how when using default landscape material you can have several paint layers at once, like sand, concrete, dirt, ect.) It would be sweet if you could make an updated tutorial that includes how to make more than 2 paint layers. Thank you.

    Great video, is there any way you could do a tutorial on starting a BR map or just creating a large scale island? I'm trying to make a custom br map but I don't know how to create a landscape big enough while also having an ocean. If I create a landscape then add an ocean, it limits me to making the island bigger because of the ocean somehow. Sorry if that's too specific and confusing, but a step by step tutorial on making a large scale island for a br map would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the tutorial! This may seem odd, but I have a very important question..
    So when trying to get one of my textures into UEFN, I somehow accidently deleted all the other layers.. I'm just wondering if there is a way to fix this because I want to learn more and create in UEFN lol

      Ctrl+z is an undo button, otherwise you’ll need to manually redo whatever you lost

      As in world position offset? That’s a material attribute you can add that displaces your texture

    I have multiple biomes on my landscape, each with their own grass colour. How can I make the grass adapt to the biome it's in? I've used a Landscape Layer Blend node to allow grass on multiple landscape layers, not sure how to make the grass colour vary with each biome though. Any suggestions?

    Hi! I Got a problém with my materiál, so everything works as intended but when I paint with other layers the texture does not appear. So let’s say I have normal grass and I paint it with snow the grass texture is still there but the snow one isn’t :/ any idea what’s doing the issue ?

    After following the tutorial I was unable to paint on an already existing piece of terrain, do I have to make a new piece of terrain in order to paint on it?

      You can paint on existing terrain, open outliner and select your terrain, then change the material in its details. You may have to do this for all of its proxies.

      It should work with 3, and it does. You likely set it up incorrectly. Make sure you assign another landscape layer in the blend nodes and set to weight based painting

    Empty layers in paint mode? My landscape is a simple Gray color "MI_Simple_Gray02_Flat". I want to paint paths on this landscape without actually changing the whole landscape texture, I've seen that the fix for the empty layers is by changing the Landscape materials of all the landscape proxies in Outliner, but doing this changes the whole landscape to a different texture and no longer Gray. How do I fix this issue

    Is it possible to create animated grass materials in UEFN.. Like in the full UEV? I cant find the nodes and tools for this in UEFN. And virtual texturing isnt there... But in original Fortnite both is in the game.

      UEFN is a very intense software. I run on a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro gaming laptop, which handles UEFN well (with loud fans). I’m not familiar with the surface pro but my guess is it will underperform. Most devs use PCs.

      Make sure you’ve assigned the material to all of your landscape proxies and the master landscape. Otherwise it won’t show up

    how do you make the grass not on the cliffs after the cones, then how do you get rid of the cones? I DO not want a cone island any longer,

      Just don’t use the cone mesh, use a grass one.
      To keep the grass off the cliffs, copy the slope mask and feed it into the grass node.

    Beginner guides need to explain every little thing as if the viewer has never used it before!

      It’s very intuitive, if you were struggling, click on what you want to delete, and hit the delete or backspace key.

      My initial comment was during my first day using uefn, your guide did involve deleting objects such as the grid square (0:15) as demonstrated by yourself. Sorry for wanting to learn something from your video that you didn't explain too well. If I was struggling it would only be down to something not being explained during my first day on PC coming from PlayStation. Do you always try to insult the people who watch your vids?

      @@MaestroShark Thank you, I bought new laptop to use 2.0, but I've never played by PC before, between the movement controls, and the amount setting available frustration is setting in, if only I could plug in my control and navigate like I was in 1.0 I would then find 2.0 a lot easier to use. I see many videos claiming it's creativity that only holds us back, but I can assure you that is not the case with me, quite the opposite. My frustration is not with you. I did figure out how to delete the grid, but still trying to figure how to select and replace it all in one motion.

    Question, when I’m adding a static mesh to the grass layer, how to I make sure the materials come with it? All the meshes I add end up gray.

      You need to attach the material to the mesh. to do that, double click on the mesh inside the content browser and apply the material. to test this, you should be able to drag the mesh from the browser onto your project and it will have its materials assigned.

    IK this came out before the customizable landscapes so I have a question is it possible to add custom grass to layers in the new landscapes since the UIs are different?

      You can’t. Those are baked/uneditable assets (besides parameters they’ve allowed you to customize). To add grass, you’ll need to make your own material.

    I have one more question to ask because I feel like you'll have an answer. Can you import things from bridge into UEFN? I want to get some grass and flowers to use as ground cover, for example to use them in the way you used cubes and cones. If it's possible, how can you import things from bridge to UEFN?

      Yes! Just store them in your computer as an .fbx file and you can easily import them in

      @@600vibe make sure you’ve applied the material to the landscape and all of its proxies, you can select them in the outliner and edit the material in details. If it’s not showing up then, you should try making a random change to the material and saving.

      @@600vibe that’s because the graphics settings in the editor are solely for previewing and workflow efficiencies. To get rid of the grass in session you’ll need to delete the physical grass nodes in your material

    I followed the tutorial but to prevent lag I deleted the 3d grass, and everything looks fine in the UEFN editor but when I launch the session the textures on all of terrain is now glitching with black lines that stay the same size no matter the distance. I’m not sure if I missed a step or not and no I don’t have performance mode on.

      This is a recurring bug, usually it fixes for me when I use “GetMaterialAttributes”, in the following pattern:
      Textures > SetMaterialAttributes > Lerp/Material Blend (either works) > Landscape Layer Blend > GetMaterialAttributes > Material Output
      Otherwise, try connecting each attribute to its copy of the landscape layer blend node and that node to its respective attribute
      (For example, for base color: connect grass texture to “grass stone” layer, and sand texture to “sand stone” layer, then connect that layer blend node to the base color of the material output.
      Repeat this step for each attribute you are using)

      You likely didnt have a material assigned to it in the first place. Find its mesh in content browser, and double click to edit it and add its material

    12:30 | So I was following this tutorial with a starter island from 1.0 and when I looked my paint wasn’t there (in layers for the landscape of the original state island). Then I made a new landscape out of the material I made and it appeared black but I could paint on it with the color intended (red). Is there a way to get that layer to go on the old starter island landscape?

      Unfortunately not, materials aren’t designed to overlap and all data needs to be compiled into one asset.
      So, you’ll either have to use the default landscape paint or your custom paint

      Ah ok. And I tried to make a custom terrain (similar to this video excluding desert) and the smooth tool/sculpt tool were really wonky and basically the terrain looked weird and scuffed compared to the default terrain smoothing/sculpting all nice. Do you know why that may be?

      Yeah the settings carried over from default landscape to the created. I assume the default just sculpts/smoothens better?

      @@darkvortex2851 I think the blending on the default is controlled by a texture instead of gradient blending, so maybe I’ll explore that in a future tutorial

      Click the first item and shift click the last item to select adjacent items in a list. You can also use control click to individually select/deselect multiple items in the drawer.

      You need to change the material in all of your landscapes to the new material

      @@MaestroShark I redid it and figured it out, thanks for the tutorial. Is there a way to make the shiny textures not be shiny anymore? Everything but the grass is shiny.

      @@WornSnow88 for that, you should disconnect metallic and specular wherever you don’t want it, and use a value (1+click) to set roughness to 1. That’ll turn off all shininess for that material

      1. Make sure every piece of landscape in your map has the material assigned to it (select every proxy/chunk of landscape and change this in details)
      This should turn your entire landscape black
      2. Select the layer you want to paint and create a weight blended layer using the plus icon on its right

      @@MaestroShark can you please elaborate. I've made an autolandscape material and I place it as the material and it just turns black. If I view this in game will it appear? Also does this only work if you do not use a template as I've used a template but can't seem to get my material to show up

      @@610sailor8 if it’s black, that means it’s working. In landscape mode, go to paint and you should be able to assign weight blended layers to the paints.
