Can't say he is not committed to the performance. Raw and powerful!! As you say , you can't fake integrity! Trick of the Light, live on the Resolution tour is a must!
You’ll probably hear this a few times, but he is apparently singing about the time he slept with his best friend’s girlfriend and the fallout from that. He can certainly convey the pain! Another he did on Like a Version was Tina Arena’s song, Chains. Incredible version.
Yep that is certainly the rumour and while it’s most likely true, it’s not been confirmed- it’s more a case of people guessing based on Matt’s words that he “had a fallout with a mate.. and did something stupid” .. we do know that Matt was just a teenager at the time and that the song is about personal growth after remorse and guilt.
Matt not only sings and plays guitar he also plays multiple instruments including drums, piano, flute and synth. In his second studio album, RAINBOW VALLEY, Matt plays every instrument and does all the vocals for the entire album! His vocals range from D2 to G5, he can do a solid baritone to high tenor and a stunning falsetto to boot!
Seeing him live is another experience. I saw him in 2012 at a dive bar at around 11pm at night. Drunk people everywhere 😆...Matt walks on stage and stood there. You couldve heard a pin drop... Stills sends a shiver up my spine
Watching him perform, it's like he totally goes inward. His eyes are open but he's not looking at anything or anyone in particular, he's completely focused on the sounds he's making, and on making them mesmerising.
the people who produce the Like A Version for JJJ are a class act. I haven't heard a bad mix in all the years I have listened to it. To top it off it is around 8 o'clock on Friday morning The original they do before the news and the cover comes after the news!.
Wow. First comparison I've heard to Ren but you're right. The first time I saw him sing as a kid I thought he was channelling Jeff Buckley. I saw Matt play a couple of weeks ago and he hasn't lost any of his magic. The performance is still with me. He plays over 20 instruments, writes everything and is just so purely talented. SO looking forward to you jumping down this hole 😊
By the way Matt is touring Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester and London in September this year. He is incredible live. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him and highly recommend you check out some more of his stuff soon and buy yourselves some tickets.
Hey guys , I’ve never seen this clip ( where have I been ) thank you , he is so good . Another aussie band from yesteryear is a band called Zoot Daryl Cotton -vocals. Beeb Birtles - bass ( prior to LRB ) Rick Springfield-guitar . Rick Brewer -drums . They did a cover of The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby . It was a monster hit here in oz
Ahhh, Matt Corby, what a great way to start Aussie Week 5. I remember seeing him on Australian Idol and thinking this kid is talented, but the pap that he was performing on the show almost made me cringe. For this reason, I never paid Corby another thought after that season of Australian Idol finished. That was until this Like A Version was performed, I then paid him more attention. Matt Corby is a prodigious talent and has gone from success to success, which have been grounded in hard work and by surrounding himself with good musicians. I can't recall seeing a performance from him that I didn't like (all on UA-cam, I have never seen Corby live). I hope to see him at a festival or other live gig, sometime in the future.
Australia certainly can produce the unique and different! Have you reacted to Vanessa Amorosi, yet? I particularly like Vanessa on a German TV program (Top of the Pops?) singing, 'Have A Look', which showcases her extraordinary vocal power and range, color, interpretation and presentation. Vanessa kills it! Please react to it. Also, in Oz, ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) is pronounced like the Italian word 'aria' in opera. Glad to have another Aussie week back again.
Made of Stone. Matt Corby. Lovely keys in this one. A soul singing. You’ll appreciate it I think. He also, plays ten or so instruments. Make you feel inadequate and will have the ladies weeping around the campfire.
Aussie week - Back and Brilliant - looking forward to plenty of double bungers. Matt is equally amazing with everything he releases and sounds even better in front of a band - maybe even in a cathedral........ worth just listening even if you don't react.
There are many great performances on Live at the Wireless/Like a Version, this is one of the best. You could do a whole month of performances on there. One of my faves is DMAs covering Chers Believe.
Matt Corby week for sure❤ Plent more amazing performances where that came from Matt is the real deal such an amazing artist so original and talented.❤😂
What a brilliant performance. Sometimes when I hear an amazing voice I’m totally absorbed. But this time I was not distracted from the masterful songwriting and how he plays guitar. It was a well-balanced package. Sometimes a singer "uses" a guitar to accompany his voice. Matt Corby can "play". Imo his fingerpicking was great, the harmonies, everything. And his hair...
Haha he’s got everything 😂so true! Good luck going down the Matt Corby rabbit hole he’s very unique (and yes good looking too) ❤try Trick of the Light, Resolution, Song for Interlude for starters.
They were amazing. Can't remember whether you've already checked out the EasyBeats, but if not I do hope this time you include both them and the Loved Ones in your Aussie listen list this time around. Both bands were amazing.
Just loved your reaction guys. Brilliant performance from Matt I still get chills as he winds up for that finish...wow. I see lots of ppl have already suggested more of Matt Corby and I agree another JJJ appearance from Matt was his cover of a Tina Arena (Aussie chick) song 'Chains' very different but still awesome. Thanks again my friends sending appreciation from Australia
Great voice great talent and as you said a man of integrity, so many get caught up being on those tv shows and are no sooner called amazing "STARS" & "DIVAS" etc and then gone in no time. This man made it his own way and has earned his place in our awesome music industry by sheer hard work and talent. Thanks guys great start to another Aussie Week. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘🎶🎶🎶🎶💖💖💖💖
Hey guys, great reaction. There is a longer version of this performance where the two DJs interview him briefly first to tell them about the song he performs. It's in that dialog he shares the story behind the song so I'd give that a listen if you can find the version with the prelude on it. 👍
Hi Thamesman, another great review. In this song 'brother' is a reference to a good mate of his. The way Matt describes it the pain relates to guilt he feels for something bad he did to his 'brother'. He doesn't give exact details, but its' believed he cheated with his mate's girlfriend. "Hiding under the covers with no one else to blame." It's worth another listen, with that as background. I think this intimate personal setting was perfect for this song, rather than a stadium.
Yes! Something to look forward to this week, seeing what Chris has planned for you. I'm hoping for some Meg Mac & Vanessa Amorosi. Vanessa is such an underrated singer for someone so talented
Thank you for reacting to this artist recommendation from me and so many other Australians 😊 He is one of our national treasures 😊 I’m glad you enjoyed his performance 😊
Matt is where it began for me, this excitement and hope for new music. I knew you'd get here at some point, so I waited patiently (Trust Ye In The Curator and Ye Shall Be Rewarded, as the old saying goes) He is is gold. Thanks for another awesome reaction, Love ya! ❤
Lovely reaction ❤. Mr Coby seems so still when he sings, with a voice that can do anything. I wish I'd known about Matt Corby much sooner yet I'm glad I've listened to more by him. Ren has mentioned wanting to collaborate with another Australian artist Tash Saltana, which would be amazing. Tash is a one woman band who takes you to another world. Personally I would love to see Matt Corby & Chinchilla work together - both have voices that can do anything!
Another epic Australian singer songwriter to check out: Guy Sebastian singing his song Battle Scars that he performed live for The Home Front on ANZAC Day.
He does an incredible version of the Black Keys Lonely Boy, Also recently did a cover of Don’t want no Scrubs by TLC… he has a new album out which more soulful and mellow… reminds me of early jamiroquai
I love Matt Corby - live = perfection! He is a perfectionist. I’d love you to do Trick of the Light (live version) to get the full sense of his musicality. He could be world wide famous but doesn’t want it. Loves his fame in Scandinavia but struggles even in Oz to feel understood. He’s just real & ridiculously talented.

G'day thamesmen, I was just watching some of your past reactions, yes, I enjoy them that much, oddly enough, when I came into the comments, mine was the first one I saw suggesting trick of the light. Like you, I digress. I just wanted to let you know that it was announced today that the movie " how to make gravy " is currently being filmed in Queensland staring Hugo Weaving. I hope this was of interest to you as national gravy day rapidly approaches. Hope you're both well, have a great day and I look forward to your next offering.
Great musician great voice great performance. Unfortunately I had a hard time following the lyrics. Would love to listen to the song with the words. Great performance like to hear it again with the lyrics.
You guys need to look at Guy Sebastian choir the version where he unexpectedly shows up at a school choir that are practising his choir song also a bonus with this one Guy writes and produces most of he's music many great songs all have meanings behind them and he's current Hope this helps you really should check him out like John Farnham and Jimmy barnes love singing and lives the words Cheers guys 🦘🇦🇺👍

I don't know if he would feel this bad if it were just a mate's girlfriend. My guess is that it was his best friend's wife. Its called brother so it was a best friend who was like his brother and he probably lost him after the incident. Its like that old saying you don't know what you've got till its gone he probably regrets it and misses his friend.
Good looking rooster, can sing, play guitar and has integrity. Apart from that, nothing to be jealous about😂.
Songs from Matt Corby to consider - Trick of the Light, Souls a Fire, Chains, and Loney Boy - are just a few that will not disappoint.
Three very good choices, Phil.
Will add Song for Interlude to that list as well, but yep.. good list to start with 😊
I saw him recently at the Enmore. I loved Miracle Love, Resolution & For Real. Such a fabulous singer/musician.
Thanks
Also Monday and Miracle Love
Trick of the Light live from Matt is magic.
Right you are Sharon
so good
Can't say he is not committed to the performance. Raw and powerful!! As you say , you can't fake integrity! Trick of the Light, live on the Resolution tour is a must!

You mentioned Jeff Buckley. Jeff was one of Matt's big influences and his cover of "Lover you should have come over" is outstanding.
Matt not only sings and plays guitar he also plays multiple instruments including drums, piano, flute and synth. Lyrics
Ooh ooh ooh
Oh oh
Ooh oh ooooh
Sleep now under my skin
Make sure you'll try to
Conjure the wind
And ease my mind
Ooh ooh ooh
Oh oh
Ooh oh ooooh
Somebody call out to your brother
He's calling out your name
Ooh ooh ooh
Hiding under the covers
With no one else to blame
Ooh ooh ooh
You couldn't help out your own neighbour
You couldn't tell it to his face
You were f***ed up by the blame
You cower in the corner
Confide in your father
Let it out and say
Let it pass away
Sleep now under my skin
Make sure you try to
Conjure the wind
And ease my mind
And I said
Ooh ooh ooh
Oh oh
Ooh oh ooooh
Somebody call out to your brother
He's calling out your name
Ooh ooh ooh
Hiding under the covers
With no one else to blame
Ooh ooh ooh
You couldn't help out your own neighbour
You couldn't tell it to his face
You were f***ed up by the blame
You cower in the corner
Confide in your father
Let it out and say
You cower in the corner
Confide in your father
Let it break your day
Let it out and say
Wait there
Pull yourself out of this state dear
Acknowledge you were a fake here
From there on you might just grow
Oh oh oh
Somebody call out to your brother
He's calling out your name
Ooh ooh ooh
Hiding under the covers
With no one else to blame
Ooh ooh ooh
Oh, you couldn't help out your own neighbour
You couldn't tell it to his face
You were f***ked up by the blame
